Do you fellow adults with 9-5s still actually play?

I haven’t played in god knows how long. I used to love the game and grind for raids mostly but man I’ve even skipped the last two raids. Just watched them on twitch instead. I don’t think I could have functioned in my adult life anymore and continued playing Destiny. Doing tasks I “need to do” felt a lot like a second job. Now I only play games that I can have some pure fun in with no real tasks and hop on and off. Like Apex. I decided towards the beginning of last year I would no longer play or buy expansions until they got to the point with the story. I’m talking Savathun shows up or the rest of the Darkness Pyramid ships. Otherwise I’m done with these little side stories taking up my time. How do you guys still handle it? Do you still love it as much as Destiny 1?

Yup, I still play. My kids are out of high school, so I have the time after work. I do like D2, for the most part. There's enough there to keep me busy. However, D1 has a better Crucible. The D2 version just doesn't give us enough reasons to play. Plus, the D2 console graphics for PvP are TERRIBLE!!!!! Nothing but noise and confetti graphics blocking view so I can't see anything when using half of these supers. Just awful. Didn't have that problem in D1.

Yeah, I usually play every day. But I've never got enough time before reset to do everything I want to get done each week. And I only play one character too. I work 8 to 5 though, but with my commute and getting ready in the morning it's more like 6 am to 6 pm.

  • i work 8-5 but no. i hit 1000 power score a month and a half ago, knocked out 90% of the triumphs for the seasonal seal and abruptly quit to go back to CSGO and PUBG. I was on this week on reset for the triumphs but got off afterwards. Game wants me to do chores? fine ill pop in and finish them then leave without spending any money.

  • This is the problem with seasons. Seasons are pretty great for people who have time to play 24/7, and even then it will never be enough content for them. For people who don't have time to play 24/7 it's a major turn off. It's essentially content that Bungie won't mind throwing away. So it's never really that good. The benefit of large content drops is that players can get to it. Whenever they get it. Sure is some of the magic ruined by not being there day one? I guess. Doesn't make your first Oryx kill or Consecrated Mind kill feel worse. It feels just as amazing as someone who was there day one. (except you likely actually had a fun time cause day 1 raids are terrible)

    • Nobody should play a game that was designed to be so casual it fits in with job schedules. A game can be played at any time. Needing to play at X time per day/week is a game not worried about its overall quality. You can't have both, that's just silly. Those are two completely opposite styles of design. I question this model of weekly/daily logging in to keep up. Staging a game around life rather than having the freedom to play and advance as much as you want, when you want? That's insidious. Genius, but definitely bad long term.

    • I used to play. Haven't in a while now. This season blows. I did one night's worth on this past Tues for the Empyrian Foundation triumph. Have not gone back in since.

      • Work 24s every other day. On my day offs I could get down and dirty with it. But don’t want to spend my time in a game that makes things obsolete in a few months. I feel the only thing I’m missing out on are playing against bosses. And if that’s the only thing that I miss, then the bulk of the game is a bit... dull.

        • I'm an adult with a job, family and I train for Ironman triathlons....... For me the game is entertainment not a hobby. I try to keep up but there is WAY more to life than a game so I never feel like I'm falling behind with the newest whatever.

          • Well said my brother well said. F!@*# THis seasonal drizzle of content model bungie has been saling. There still so many lose ends from D1 they have no intention on exKG ploring or tying up. The stranger?? I mean explained who she is but then shes just gone? In a time when the game is lacking new charicters and plots and mechineze to keep the story and world growing seems like a perfect time to bring back some old friends. The iron temple bounties guy who was cyde friend. I mean we have whole social spaces that are forgotten about. The farm. Mocs like ikora and Amanda holiday with little to no end game content or reason to visit them. Not to mention factions those are tools to keep the story moving between content and dlc. Half the game is missing. Trials ? Not only have these things been missing for years. They have not bothered to replace them. Evolve something new. Seasons could work if they came with more content. For instance every season you got a new additional patrol zone on old planets. And a strike or two and 2 pvp maps. Or if you got weapon vendor refreshes to diffrent planets every season. I mean end game reasons to log in other then to chase tide bits of lore. And to replay some mindless activity over and over chasing weapon and armor rolls. That are subpar and will be irrelevant next season. I mean dont get me wrong patrolling is mindless as well. But I would rather spend 5 hours riding my "boost d1 high speed sparrow around the wounded that was the cosmadrom" doing jumps and shotting things and admiring the views. Then run 100 cycles of the sun dial, or gambit, or escalation protocol. D2 is all half measures god idea not great fallow through. You need something for each aspect of player . They focus on one area instead of trying to improve them all. Over time. End game needs a little of every thing strikes, pvp, new patrol areas, lore, secrets, and story. And above all weapons . What's pvp with gear from years ago? Who is juiced to chase that besides new players? Bring back the d1 style gun Smith. With new weekly weapons you can try out and order. And bring back gun Smith hidden, class or penical weapons you get from leveling up. With him. But most of all add more engaging story to the world. Not just huge things like the darkness, but new tales of new gurdians, and old lengends we have not heard about. Make or story telling options more then a 5 second cut sceane. Or reading lore of a card. Do the story like the divisions 2 audio taps, video, tapes , paper trials diffrent ways to keep the story going and diffrent things to hunt for and storys to tell. Stop with the bungie online books and put that junk in the game. Let or ghost project cut sceane. Work back in some of the d1 mystery charicters effordit saying she had her own circle of new gurdians out in the outer rim studying new things and even clans intween these big story points. They could have filled the time with, evolving clans, adding new story driven clan element, new characters weapons , activity and and updates to the farm. Small beats between the big beats all all pay off at some point. Siva , the iron temple ect

          • I dropped off after the middle of Season of Dawn. Been playing since D1 and this is the 2nd hiatus I’ve had to take. This time around I really just wasn’t having fun. It’s too much of a grind. Not enough fun.

          • Yes here. I have to completely ignore the daf story, else Id dip out too. Still enjoying the broken PvP while working toward Unbroken (1 more season!). Occasionally take a haitus for irl or other games with much better campaigns. Havent enjoyed another fps shooter since BF: Bad Company so here I am.

          • I took more than 6 months off from playing after D2Y1. Playing here or there now since I got the content for free. I stopped playing raids even when I have friends that want to do them. Yeah, it does feel a bit like a second job. I sometimes think about outsourcing. Either this is an intermission season or Bungie is just not putting development resources towards the game anymore. With all the bugs it feels like 2/3 of the dev team is gone doing other stuff. I love alot of the recent ideas, but the game really needs some core changes. It seems like they are trying hard to get new players rather than adding engaging content for the existing ones. I wondering if there is going to be some big reveal soon or if they are trying to find a new publisher.

              • Sure do. And I have what I consider to be “pure fun,” as well. There’s a lot of ways to look at this game, after all. I’m in no way required to do any chores I don’t want to do. Still have a blast.

              • Didn't read, but hell yeah I still play 😎. I grinded out max light and now I'm trying to get better at comp/chase Luna's. Haven't really participated in any of the seasonal content though. The game has a lot of issues but it doesn't irk me as much as others, idk. I really enjoy watching these forums burn down every other day, sort of a sick pleasure. Destiny's a fun game, but I can imagine it being a headache if I felt obligated to bounty hunt and whatnot.

              • I think the way most functioning adults handle Destiny is by not making a video game their identity. I’ve thought of uninstalling it plenty of times but then I just remind myself to not take the game too seriously and that wasting time after work watching tv is not any different than shooting aliens in the face. 🤷🏼‍♂️
