It just hands you a win. Unless you're absolutely terrible with a machine gun, you're going to wreck faces. Most rumble games only have time for one or two heavy drops, so if you get it, you're golden. I personally think it's kind of stupid to have this in any gametype, but it balances out in others. Rumble, however, should not have heavy ammo.
I went 21/5 in a game without touching heavy, but some other twat managed to pick up heavy and go 22/8 to win by 25 points... In that game I had a 10 and 5 kill streak (no 15, sorry), and I'm inclined to doubt that he had the same, just got lucky with heavy.
Is there skill with getting heavy? Yeah, a little bit. Surviving to make your way to the box and camping out the spawn area until it drops so you can pick it up and get your free relentless medal. But if someone else is lucky enough to have their super, they get the heavy instead. Regardless, that single encounter should not decide the fate of the match.
Discuss.

Edited by whirly5: 1/17/2015 5:50:28 PMthe heavy ammo drops bring some tactics in otherwise rather boring deathmatch modes without other objectives. but I really think bungie should offer more playlists, like one with heavy ammo drops and supers and hardcore versions without.

2 RepliesEdited by Fearfullz: 1/17/2015 12:34:50 AMLol, scrub hasn't played halo. You want to remove something just because you're bad? Would hate to see you in any competitive competition. Called map control bro.

I save my super for the heavy ammo spawn. I'm usually about 1000 ahead before the heavy spawns so it doesn't make much difference most of the time unless I'm playing a really good player.

Edited by Life is a Game: 1/17/2015 4:37:41 PMHeavy ammo is one of the very few strategical aspects of the crucible. The point of heavy is to maintain map control. Even in Rumble.

Save your supers to kill heavy. It only becomes a problem when their are too many weak players in the match

Supers aren't ever random for me in Rumble or Skirmish. I save it specifically for the heavy spawn so that wherever the opposing spawn is, I can move to it and bomb several people in the face. Even if I don't get them all, I then have heavy on the ground from them picking it up. Its calculated for me. And I bet it pisses people off. :D

1 ReplyMost supers can outplay a heavy (Bubble, Nova, Golden Gun, anyways. The others can get quite dicey), along with just getting outflanked. Its a level of tactics adapted from older shooters, where controlling the good weapon spawns was a element of gameplay. That includes potentially teaming up with previous rivals to take down the guy with the rocket luncher.

Why is there rumble in heavy?
-
6 RepliesThis game is all about luck anyway; there's heavies in rumble to add randomness, randomness compresses the skill gap, a compressed skill gap means that worse players can beat better players more often due to said randomness, which is incentive to get them to continue playing the game.

Is Heavy ammo going to be in Inferno?

4 Replieswell u know when heavy drops! so go get it! if you didnt set up for it or died its your own fault.

Supers, shotties, and fusion rifles can all put someone with heavy ammo in their place. It's not rocket science.

1 ReplyYeah, heavy does really need to go in Rumble. If you have 2 top tier players in the same lobby, the winner is pretty much determined by who can stay alive with their machine gun and kill the other 4 scrubs in the lobby. If the two heavy guys run into each other, then the outcome of the entire game pretty much rests on one fight. Heavy is fine in team modes, but in Rumble it's just too random who gets it.

2 RepliesFor me personally it adds a bit of an objective to a rumble match, and it keeps the game alive. When you play rumble enough you know when the ammo heavy will drop, work your way towards that moment, if you're good enough to stay alive you've earned it. Or use it as bait. If you don't get it, hunt the one who does have it and try to get 'm from behind of with YOUR super. But that's my personal opinion, I guess it depends on your playstyle. One drop a game is enough for me tho.

5 Replieslol, have you played halo? The good guns spawn randomly on the map... same idea. Result: get gud. get hvy.
-
2 RepliesControlling the heavy ammo spawn area is a very viable strategy to employ in rumble, and many other game types. Stop crying dude.

3 RepliesGet better at getting heavy ammo?
-
1 ReplyIt needs to be reduced to a single heavy spawn, center of the map. That would fix it.
-
I think of it as a evening the playing field. Or if you're ahead, securing your victory. I'm an average player so I've been on both sides of the ammo situation. Damned if you do damned if you don't really.

5 RepliesWell its a bungie thing, just as shotguns, swords and snipers were the heavies in Halo, heavy ammo is Destiny's version. I like it in rumble, you might be losing and you get heavy ammo or you might be winning and all of a sudden, some guy starts destroying everyone with a machine gun, it makes you focus and puts you on the edge of your seat. That is what its all about, not winning or losing, but giving everything you have to come out on top, even if you fall, you still win.

1 ReplyI agree. There shouldnt be heavy in skirmish/salvage/rumble. It's just too much. there are times that the other team can make better plays and take the heavy. If so, GG they will outgun you now. In rumble, there are two heavy spawns (if I am right) and only two people or one will be able to have that heavy. That automatically turns into a place where only two people have the advantage against others. It isnt something about "get gud scrub." Sometimes you just have bad timing and spawn in across the map as soon as the heavy spawns. I really want to start a thread where I address these issues regarding heavy ammo. If skirmish is going to have heavy ammo, then it needs to be less amunition or there should only be one heavy ammo spawn (in the middle) and the teams have to fight over it for an edge.
