Acoording to this video, Necrochasm starts off as a common weapon and then you upgrade the brains out of it. We should be able to do this with our humble little Khvostov 7G-02 we got as our first weapon!
Bump if you want it! Post your ideas below for what kind of beast exotic it should upgrade into, and I'll try to repost some of them here :D
Suggestions:
Arron Rift's--
"During a late night tinkering session by a campfire in Forgotten Shores, you realized that some old parts from a rusted plane seem to fit perfectly around your trusty old Khvostov 7G-02. Now whenever you fire the gun within 2 meters of a target, the gun switches to a FLAMETHROWER that deals massive fire damage and sets enemies alight while consuming Special Ammo. The only drawback is that when you run out of special ammo the gun still tries to switch to flamethrower, meaning you sometimes can't shoot enemies up close. You really need to have Banshee-44 take a look at that..."
nNeXxT's--
"It would be cool if it had a skill chain that allowed you to effectively have a select fire option, allowing the gun to be auto, burst, or single shot, and it would change the classifier as well between auto rifle, pulse rifle, and scout rifle as well as damage per round."
EffinWat's--
"I would love to have it be a truly "silenced" AR that adds bonuses to movement speed and weapon handling while crouched as well as the exotic skill being a significant damage bonus verse enemys who can't see you. Perfect "assassin" weapon." With Trestero adding "Newly awoken, you were hunted by Fallen through the shadows. Show them the roles have reversed."
MadnessQuotient--
He suggests having it evolve multiple times, going from white to green to blue, etc. Perhaps having multiple quests where you choose whether you want the gunsmith or the cryptarch to upgrade it, each providing different bonuses.
Katzparty--
"The Old Lightbringer
A modified Khvostov found back in the ruins of the cosmodrome outside the wall. A strange weapon that fires true, despite dating back to before the Golden Age.
With similar changing fire modes to the Suros, but instead it's burst fire when ADS'd, and a special ability that grants the user the Voidwalker's Surge ability on kills and a slightly boosted health regen on precision kills."
Goldhawk777--
He suggested having the element and perks be based on your class and play-style. I'm taking this a bit further to suggest maybe it could pull up your character's stats to tailor the weapon to you, such as whatever element you use the most and perks like fitted stock for long-range players vs. extra ammo for players who miss a lot, etc. A gun designed for everyone!

I'm seeing a lot of "DO STRANGERS RIFLE" but in my opinion, 1) Doesn't it already have a similar exotic counterpart? and more importantly 2) The description of that gun states that it shouldn't exist due to tech that isn't out yet. SO that means the FINISHED version of Strangers Rifle probably wont be out until Destiny Two, where there will probably be a war between the City and Darkness going on (Because the Stranger is from the future, and there's a big war she returns to, if you pay attention). But how I see the Khvostov going, is a mix of that plus a few new things. You could have select fire, heavy spring mag for faster fire rate, maybe a drum mag. New sights for the gun, to make it close, med, or long range. In its upgrade quest, its Exotic perk could be permanent Explosive round, Elemental rounds, or Tracer rounds (similar to the Shock Rifles that Fallen use). Pick one out of three quests, Banshee-44 for Expl., Master Rahool for Elemental, and Variks for Tracer rounds. (You have to be sighted for the Tracer rounds, like the lock on for Truth and similar RPG's)

1 ReplyWhile exploring the devils lair you fall through the floor to a secret area that has not been mapped. Of course being a guardian you feel the need to to take a look around and to your left you notice a strange looking door. Except it's not a door, it a vault. An old one, your ghost cannot open its combination lock. So with sadness you mark the area then leave. While talking to a couple of other guardians about the incident they looked puzzled never before have they seen something like that. As you walk away the gunsmith stops you. He explains that he over heard you talking and has worked with a vault like this before. You and the gunsmith go back to the vault. When he opens it you find a cache of weapons parts and ammo. With your loot you head to the tower. The parts and weapons are old, useless to anything but golden age relics. Then you remember the khovostov. When you bring it to him he attaches some of the parts to it. The enemies shields are not calibrated to handle golden age rounds allowing to do more damage. Soon other guardians scour the cosmodrome to claim other vaults and their treasures.

43 RepliesEdited by RMSi_10nm: 10/30/2015 8:45:39 AMI have saved my first Khostov just in case this ever happens. I like the idea that there is a quest associated with the process of levelling the weapon through green, blue & purple levels. I would suggest White - >Green : Banshee offers you a quest after he has known you for a certain amount of time (maybe once he remembers your face...). The quest is to find a new sight on Earth and it requires handing over a special item found in loot, a certain amount of spinmetal & a green engram (because Banshee is a secret anti Cryptarch) along with 100 auto rifle kills on dregs. - Quest drops Green Painted Khostov with clean sight and max green AR damage (requires upgrading & use to hit this) Green -> Blue : Banshee at some point notices you are "Still using that old thing eh?" (trigger by having Khostov Green equipped and carrying out comparisons with other weapons he sells) The quest is to find a new magazine as Banshee remembers that the Moon colonists liked to tinker with their Khostovs (God knows how he knows this). He demands that you eliminate 200 Acolytes, provide him with Helium Filaments and a magazine from a loot cache on the Moon, along with a blue primary weapon engram for him to study. Quest drops Blue Textured Khostov with 31 ammo and max blue AR damage (obviously requires upgrading & use to hit this) Blue -> Purple : The Cryptarch notices you carrying a weapon he has never seen before and establishes that he is aware that Banshee is secretly studying engrams. He is slightly impressed, slightly pissed off, and offers to give you an upgrade and gives you a quest for a high calibre upgrade tree that he remembers reading about in his studies. Banshee saw you talking and offers a counter quest for the same materials for a stability and range mod that the gunsmith he apprenticed with taught him. For the eyes of 300 Goblins, a stack of spirit bloom, and a purple primary weapon engram you can choose to hand in to either one depending on what upgrade you want. Quest drops Purple Embellished Khostov with new upgrade tree and max purple AR damage potential (obviously requires upgrading & use to hit this) Purple -> Exotic : The now competing Banshee & Rahool again try to one up each other, this time with an elemental upgrade. They have both figured out from the data you have been providing them with that they can retrofit a fusion rifle charge module to your old faithful Khostov. They each want a fully upgraded Purple fusion rifle of your choice (they take the element from this so choose wisely), 100 weapon parts from dismantling fusion rifles, 100 Spinmetal, 100 Helium, 100 Spirit Bloom, 100 relic iron, an assault rifle telemetry bought from Xur, an exotic primary weapon engram and the completion of a special level 28 run of the strike on Mars. Quest drops Karved Kustom Khostov with new upgrade tree, cool custom texture and max AR damage potential, same upgrade trees as you bought at Legendary level but with a final "Old Faithful" upgrade which enables the elemental damage modification (obviously requires upgrading & use to use this and hit max damage) What do you think? Edit: Some people say this would be too hard. Yes. It would be harder than current exotic bounties. They see this as a negative thing, I see this as a positive thing. It was not however a mistake that I wrote out an idea for an exotic bounty which is very hard. It was entirely deliberate. If you shy away from difficult tasks then I can see how this might put you off the idea, however the suggestion that the task is at fault for your lack of desire to complete it is faulty logic. At least have the decency to own your laziness and lack of motivation. Edit: Some people have pointed out that Exotic weapon engrams are not a thing. To this I say that the creators of the game would be perfectly capable of putting Exotic engrams into the game if they were also capable of inserting the bounty exactly as I wrote it. The lack of any particular content in the current build of the game is not an obstacle to adding content to the game in the process of adding content to the game. TTK EDIT: So obviously now exotic engrams ARE a thing. This quest is perhaps even easier than some of the exotic quests we have now. I, for example, have failed to git good with The Last Word, and so have no Chaperone. I have to say that I feel more and more like this Kvostov quest would fit perfectly in the new system.

Maybe something like a superior, well-balanced auto rifle with void element. Something like a chance to proc a void vacuum effect that pulls nearby enemies inward before exploding on occasional kills. That would be dirty.....oh so dirty...

Was OK until I got the flamethrower...

5 RepliesEdited by frankhail306: 9/3/2015 1:36:59 PMMy question is what if someone of us don't have that gun? I accidentally trashed mine when I was trying to trash an extra exotic I didn't need or want. And this was before the locking thing I would delete my character but I don't wanna go through all that trouble again Maybe there should be a quest to search for the gun first? Foe those who trashed it or don't have it of course.

2 RepliesI know I'm way late to this post, but what if the exotic version let you change to make the gun fire like a scout rifle, pulse rifle, and of course auto rifle. The specs would change like they do when you switch damage types with Murmur.

Bump to be able to work upgrades into any weapon that's memorable. Kvostov, Strangers Rifle, old leggies

1 ReplyAgreed. I find it stupid that they made an entirely unique gun with a body and sound that you can't find on any other gun, but you use it for ten minutes and it becomes obsolete
