It's been a while since I've heard anything about abortion, the subject kinda drifted by in the wake of more controversial topics. I'd like to see the opinions you guys have towards abortion, now that the issue isn't at the forefront of our minds.

I think if a family cannot afford the baby, instead of having that baby suffer by not having to eat and always hungry and thirsty, they should just end it's life before it has it's life.

I'd like to know why it's an issue in the first place...

ITT: A lot of people assume that women always have the choice to be pregnant. I'm going to hide this next stuff under a spoiler to hide the clutter, so feel free to read if you so choose.
Like others said, it is a complex issue that has multiple factors involved. But for the interest of the people, a woman should have a choice. Raep happens, as do accidental pregnancies. Decisions change, savings change, health issues, life issues... It is simply easier in the end to give the choice to the woman. That being said, we should not be able to abort when the baby can live detached from the mother. (No idea what the time is). Yes, a fetus is a bundle of cells, just like bacteria. But bacteria can act independently, without relying completely on another organism.
TL;DR Abortion is a good option to be able to have.

    • I voted for the option of "For" because it simply isn't my call. If a women that I have no relation to decides she isn't ready to have a child, why should I, a complete total stranger, tell her what she can and can't do with her own body and life? When I become a husband and my wife is having a child and is considering abortion it would be an entirely different situation, I simply wouldn't allow it because I believe it is immoral. I would much rather put a child up for adoption at a young age than get rid of it before it's born.

    • Abortion is just a symptom of the real problem - an unwanted pregnancy. We should probably focus more on that side of things than "how do I fix this mess." Prevention is the best medicine.

    • Some girl asked me this in my psychology class. I told her I'm not pro-life or pro-choice. After a second of a confused stare I told her I'm pro-abortion. It was funnier in person

      • I believe abortion should be legal up until the age of 21 👍 and should also be forced on scummy people to stop them ever breeding.

      • If men could get pregnant, I guarantee there would be an over-the-counter abortion pill. They DEFINITELY wouldn't be as stigmatized as they are today.

        • It should be up to the woman. No exceptions. Don't like it? It's not your body and not your business.

I doubt many people take solace in aborting fetuses, but it's clearly the lesser of two evils at this point. Criminalisation only leads to women conducting medically unsound abortions, possibly resulting in the termination of both mother and fetus. That's why it's absolutely paramount it remains legal regardless of your ethical stance.

          • I do not think abortion should be outlawed. If the father is in the picture, I think he should have some (not all) say in the matter. He doesn't have to carry the child, but it's still his. Unless, there are extenuating circumstances i.e. serious health risks, -blam!-, etc. I don't agree with it as a form of birth control. If you don't want children, use protection, or don't have sex. Pregnancy is a result of sex. Be ready to accept the consequences before you make the choice. My girlfriend and I are adults, and we did not have sex when she was not using birth control because she was not comfortable with using only condoms. Did it suck? Sure it did, but it sucked less than having a kid before we were ready. In addition, I think people should be more educated on the process of abortion, and the risks of it. I think women would think about it more carefully, and men would realize how difficult a choice women are actually making when considering abortion. Also, disrespectful protesting/threatening/assaulting clinics, and the women who go to them is wrong. Note: I recognize that my view is a personal belief related to my own moral reasoning. Other people may not see it my way, that's why I said it should not be outlawed.

          • Would I ever want my significant other to have one? No. Have we had talks and agreed on that? Yes. Would I hold it against someone if they were to? No. It should be legal, but protection should be much more readily available.

          • No vagina, no opinion. If abortions are outlawed, you're basically giving a "mother" less rights than we give a corpse.

              • -blam!- you for starting this topic again. It is bullshit and people who want to change their minds are not going to change it. Honestly the info is out there and people will change it and from the type of people who visit this site, many will be For. But you sadly have to leave out all the exception people want to add on to abortion, cause i am not full pro-abortion and i believe in alot of regulation in the business. Honestly i am not angry at you but the topic is just black and white, it does not take into account the myriad of other solutions and choices that exist.

              • Abortion should ultimately be the woman's choice...but on the other hand I kind of feel bad for the unborn person.

                • Believe it or not... I'm actually not okay with abortion. Yeah. I don't like like the idea of killing unborn babies as if it's some sort of un do button or a quick fix to a mistake. I don't think it's right to call unexpected pregnancies "accidents" either. I just don't believe in accidents. I'd much rather prefer they just use preventative methods or put the child up for adoption. That way you're giving couples a chance to raise a child (like me and my gf) who can't have kids and you're giving that child a shot at life instead of arbitrarily taking it away, due to bad decision making. Just my two cents and how I feel about the matter. If you want to call me stupid, retarded, idiotic for having different thoughts on the matter, that's fine with me but don't expect me to get into any arguments.

                  • I wish those against it had been aborted. No not really... On a serious note I'm okay for abortion before viability, which some of you will find yourself agreeing that viability is just before nine months. Some would argue that babies have survived at 24 weeks instead of 37, so six months. I think that's fair, even if most babies that survive birth at six months die earlier, live worse lives, crippled, etc. That being I said, I don't care if it's r@pe, stupid kids, accidental (stupid adults), or the failure of birth control, or the inability to take care of the kid. They all should have the right to abort that child. Pregnancy is not free, it is financially, emotionally, and physically damaging if not crippling and you say toughen up? That is just ignorant. I always think about what happens if she gets pregnant? Just -blam!- my life? Yeah, I have the option of living a decent life still but -blam!- let's ruin it anyway. A fetus isn't a person. If the baby can't survive outside of the womb, I'd even accept five months instead of six because of the variability of viability, and then it should be able to be aborted.
