Very confused, please help

I thought that Invasion was the new “Gambit” mode where you could invade others and they could in turn invade you. However I was just doing my Priority Contract and was invaded by someone who got around 4-5 supers and just crapped all over me and my team. Plus, as we’re being timed, so need to hurry the mission, now have to worry about another player in their Super? This is correct gameplay? I’m sorry but I don’t play PvP and won’t. I dont enjoy it. So now I cannot engage with the entire gameplay formula of joining factions and getting reputation. As I’m fully stopped by this brilliant “look we can be an extraction loot-n-shooter too!” gameplay. And people wonder why the player count is abysmal. Is this how the game is supposed to work? Please tell me I got some weird bug and it won’t happen again and I can go about my time playing Destiny 2, the PvE game I love.

    Alright, alright, alright. - old

Are you able to select options without invaders? I haven’t got that far yet, but I was under the impression that regular icons (the ones without gold/red borders) have no invaders. I like the concept of the activity, but it seems like some very odd design choices are currently ruining it. The PvP aspect sounds very weak if it’s just who can spam the most powerful Renegades abilities.
