The Traveler isn’t the Gardner

The Veil and Traveler are just manifestations of the two powers. They are not the Gardner. They are tools, god tier tools, but tools none the less. The Witness used the Veil, Neomuna uses the Veil. The Gardner uses the Traveler. The Traveler operates very similar to Oryx’s Dreadnaught. Look at the similarities. 1. It’s a ship that travels the cosmos. 2. It contains a locked away throneworld-type space that requires special powers to access. 3. It allows the owner to use their throneworld power outside of the vessel itself but be aware of the outside cosmos. That’s 3 for 3. And when you think about it, it’s the perfect plan. She can travel the cosmos and not reveal who she is. No one can get to her and she can influence things from the inside, safe and sound. How can I be certain? It’s been that way since the very beginning. If you go back to D1 grimiore cards Ghost Fragments, you’ll see they don’t say the Traveler fought the Darkness but the Gardner herself did. Ghost Fragment: Mysteries The Traveler was referred to as “[O]” by Rasputin but it referred to a female Gardner fighting the Darkness during the final battle. Not the Traveler. Ghost Fragment: Rasputin 5 That makes it is clear, they are two separate things. Addendum: To give a more recent example of how the nature of the Gardner is more complex than simply growth, look at lorebook Inspiral. Inspiral, Winnowing: “…I will tell you of gardens. They are domesticated things, made in a form. As soon as something is called a garden, it is shaped. The plants require the hand of a gardener, for they have become weak and dependent on tender care. They require the hand of a winnower, to cut away the dross, for they are too incapable to do it themselves. In absence of a hand, either the flowers themselves must rise up to wield the knife, or the garden will resolve to meaningless wilderness. You will say, "But there are plants that can walk! There are seeds that must be scorched by fire to know growth! Existence is more complex than a simple dichotomy between growth and withering, and there is more in heaven and on earth than is dreamt of in this philosophy!" And I will tell you, clearly: There can be no gardens without knives.” Now the point of this passage is to clue us in that Gardening requires more than simply growth. To keep it ordered you need a knife. Therefore a Gardner must Grow and Cut. Growth is Light Cutting is Darkness So a Gardner must encompass both but her purpose is primarily growth, the cutting is just a mechanism to enable continued growing.

  • I find it difficult to keep track of lore considering 90% of the lore is inconsistent or just completely redundant. The teams are constantly changing, therefore, unfinished lore usually reminds unfinished. There was so much awesome lore potential in things that Bungie just discarded. (The 15th Wish)
