I've been looking to get a proper pc

Any recommendations? Looking to run Ableton and hopefully geometry dash. Can't get anything too expensive.

Double check that your GPU will fit in whatever case you plan of getting, I had a buddy that ended up having to take a drill to a case to get the gpu to fit after being told it was ok by PCPartPicker. On the topic of AMD vs Intel, AMDs seem to have more hiccups in my experience, but probably the biggest advantage of an AMD cpu isn't even the price, it's the long term socket support. If you get an intel, be prepared to replace your entire motherboard if you ever plan on upgrading your cpu down the road. If you get an AMD, there's a good chance you'll be able to use your old motherboard. Lastly, don't cheap out on your power supply, whatever you do. Getting a bargain Chinese brand psu has a non-zero chance of frying your computer.

Alright. I’m not sure you have a pc already. But you should get a used office computer and used video card. That would be the most cheapest and easiest. But! You NEED to make sure you get a computer with a good case size for the card. Because if you don’t. You can’t use the video card -easily-. Oh and get a 500gb SSD from Amazon.

    • Sounds like you don’t need anything too extensive, so 16 GB RAM should do (highly doubt 8 GB would work since that causes destiny 2 to crash.) as far as other things, a 1660 should work out for you, I use a GTX 3060 but that seems like too much. CPU: maybe a i7 or something like that, and you can buy a offbrand Terabyte hard drive for like 40$. Then just gotta get a motherboard, case, and proper cooling. Then, a couple hours and some YT videos later, you got a working PC. -Random dude who knows electronics. (P.S If you have windows, get the product key or transfer your primary hard drive to your new PC, otherwise you’ll have to buy a new one.)

      • If you're looking to run Ableton, 16GB of RAM should be good for a jumping off point. Keep in mind that Windows 10 and Windows 11 normally likes to use about 4GB (roughly?) of RAM, and you can always build up on that down the road. CPU is a preference, now a days. Some people prefer AMD, some (like me) prefer Intel. It's really all about what you're comfortable with. From an Intel perspective, I would focus on an i5 or i7 (if you can spring the extra few bucks for it). Try to focus on an 11 or 12k series. That's what most part vendors should be selling now a days. GPU? I always prefer nVidia. Again, I feel like this is entering into the personal preference territory, but I always prefer nVidia. AMD has let me down in a few configurations I worked on, so it put a bad taste in my mouth. The 20 series should be good, since I think (emphasis on the think) the 10 series is nearing end of life. If you're looking to build stuff out, I highly recommend building it out on a shopping list on a site like NewEgg. That way, you can price it out and give yourself some time to do the research on what's out there and if there's any trends on mainboards or other parts (such as end of life trends) and you can make changes on the fly. I've always budgeted for parts when I was rebuilding my rig and it really helped. You can have them build it for you too, but I've never found that to be any fun. It's always fun to put the stuff you buy together, I always say.

Do you make money off what you do with ableton or is it more hobbyist? I hear you with "too expensive" but if there's livelihood mixed in, if it were me, I'd try and manipulate the budget to reflect that. My current opinion is that AM5 is in a weird spot and the budget space seems like a -blam!- up place to be right now 😑. Based on the market. No sneak dis or anything heh. Best advice I got in the moment is "don't get played".

          • Build it yourself with components, you can get some parts fairly cheap. Most expensive piece is the CPU. You don't need a top of the line GPU for what your looking to do, so an older model would probs do you fine and that'll be a sight cheaper. 16 GB of RAM is all you'll need. A decent MoBo you're not looking to do crazy gaming so you'll probably be fine getting a cheap one- make sure your CPU fits the MoBo, and the MoBo fits in whatever case you get. Get a power supply that'll handle the load of all your components, stock cooling is fine for you, so don't feel obligated to go liquid- not worth it. If youre smart and find bargains you can build one for under $1000 It's like high tech Legos- not difficult plenty of people online who have made guides, Tom's Hardware forum is my go to for everything PC repair related.
