Also, your ex sounds full of it. Maybe it's just been my shitty experiences with the jaded, broken messes I seem to get enamored with, but I've found that 9 / 10 the whole "it's not you, it's me" line is bullshit. I'm sorry that happened though. I'm still dealing with a situation - while not quite the same as yours - that has caused similar pain, so I know the feeling.

I was thinking about doing it before we broke up, cause my hair was kinda long by my standards and I asked her what she thought about it and she never gave me an opinion. she was very insecure about a lot of things. I don't blame her frankly, long distance is hard, I just wish she'd have cut it off sooner. we did long distance for about 7 months before it all went down
