For Vets, the moon was pretty pointless upon release to be honest.
But you bring up great points that I'd be interested to know the answers to.

It was cool at first, the nostalgia of being on the moon was great at first, the lecturn was a cool idea but the quests were drawn out and tedious. The nightmares were interesting but the Altars of Sorrow quickly became a painful chore after the first couple of resets

Yeah, I agree. Neat for a week or two but that's about it. I dont go there unless I have to, which is almost never.
