I imagine this is not going to go over smoothly. Bungie is planning to take away the Red War, Warmind, and Curse of Osiris campaigns - content and story players have purchased. Does Bungie plan on refunding all of this? It sounds like on Beyond Light release, every player is losing access to all of the armor, materials, bounties, public events, lost sectors, adventures, patrols, missions, campaign stories, strikes, raids - nearly 50% of the current game state.
What are New Light free-to-play players going to have access to - Forsaken campaign? Is Shadowkeep campaign then going to be free to play as well? Are the seasonal stories going to be included in this for the story/building up to Beyond Light make any sense?
What I find mind-shattering is the fact that this Season of the Arrival literally starts on a destination that is going to be gone on September 22, and includes a cinematic of Rasputin being shut down, also not available on September 22. Imagine a new player getting hyped to play the 'new era', buying Shadowkeep a week before Beyond Light comes out (because you know Bungie will still be selling it), and only having a week to build up to Beyond Light, before it is permanently gone. Then, like I mention above, is Shadowkeep just free on Beyond Light release? And on top of this, when Witch Queen and Lightfall release, is Forsaken and Shadowkeep campaigns just not ever playable again?
This whole thing almost just makes me not want to play anymore, knowing that it's all going to be gone soon. I don't even feel this 'fear of missing out' element they have hard-forced on people (ironically, might I add.) Imagine players not having the money to purchase the full game, and waiting for it to go on sale in x amount of time - that's just like, not a thing anymore. I paid actual money so that I could play this content. But they are literally removing the game I purchased, from the game I purchased.. it actually almost sounds illegal?
A lot of Destiny 2 players come from the prequel - introducing 'new', old content that everyone has already paid for, played, and beat. Is this going to be free-to-play content, since everyone has already paid for it before, or is this going to be included in Seasonal purchases? I can't imagine people are going to be thrilled to pay for 6-year old content again.
Destiny 1 is still a playable game. I can go back and play all of its content and go through the story all over again if I want. This Year 4 Beyond Light is basically Destiny 3, from the way they talk about it being a 'new era.' The problem is, is I can no longer play through the story that led up to this new era. That is fundamentally wrong, and extremely unfair to players who have purchased all of Destiny 2 content.
I can't think of any other game with a campaign that just takes that content away after being accessible for 3 months, hell, even 3 years. It seems like Bungie is trying to make this game a Battle Pass Fortnite-esque forever-evolving, changing world, but Fortnite doesn't have 40-hours of story-driven content. I'm trying to imagine how fans would react to a game like WoW getting rid of an entire expansion from the live game.
Am I the only one concerned about any of this?

I have 0 issue with this change. I’m nearing 3000 hours in this game. I know all the spawn locations, all the objectives and required targets to progress. I know every mechanic and can perform them nearly flawlessly everytime. I know what supers to use where, when, and how to achieve the maximum effect. I’m ready for a change in pacing. And if removing D2’s smaller assets makes way for new and returning D1 assets, go for it. I’m not going to miss leviathan raids as 600 of my raid clears are from the leviathan themed raids. I’d rather have the chance to run VoG or Wrath.
