The focus fire on Cerberus+1 sounds amazing, however there was a supposed balance for it by reduced firerate and damage. At same range, regular fire deals 504 with significant firerate, with alt fire it deals 194 (and I thought that's showing for per bullet, however it's only the one shot with a small chance for 2 bullets to land in 1 shot, so the damage is still less). Everything from damage, firerate, and surprisingly consistency is worse with the catalyst. I think there was a concern that with focus fire and tigher spread it would make it too powerful so there was adjustments to that, but there was a oversight with the alt fire still dealing with the lack of range the gun has and there was no adjustment to that range in the alt fire. Either maintain the firerate and damage and maintain the poor range to bring it up to decency, or the alt fire switches the stats to allow the range to be improved and have the consistency of shots. It's odd how focus fire and tigher spread makes it less consistent.

The Cerberus+1 catalyst was meant to be a different thing compared to other catalysts. It takes it from an autorifle and makes it more of a shotgun. Without the catalyst you fight from a further range with it on you fight like it's a shotgun.

3 RepliesEdited by arf1049: 10/5/2019 7:50:05 PMThe catalyst made it the polar opposite of the other fire mode. It’s a very unique and weird weapon to get used to. But you essentially turn it into a Cerberus +shotgun. Red mode (standard pre catalyst mode) 360 RPM Wide spread Normal damage triangular damage falloff, does less near the barrel and more at about 10m-25m then starts dropping off again. meaning it’s golden zone is at short-medium range but not quite point blank. Red mode is for stand offish short-medium range, boss fights, and day to day use. Green mode 180 RPM (tested) can be increased by using semi auto 240RPM-280RPM and possibly more with a better trigger finger. Tighter spread More damage Short linear falloff, does the most damage near the barrel and immediately falls off like a shotgun. Green mode is for jumping into the crowd and hate fucking the very ground you stand on. Use it like a shotgun and put it in their chest before pulling the trigger. Always use single trigger pulls as you can easily achieve higher rates of fire. This is coming from someone who still has yet to put the thing down after getting the catalyst in the shadow keep campaign. And used it extensively prior to this, in PvP and PvE. I honestly find it a godsend as it closes that awakes CQB gap the weapon sorta had short of 5m.

If you're gonna complain can you at least use the gun properly first?

2 RepliesAre you kidding? NO bungie, don't listen to this! Cerberus Catalyst is AMAZING! Don't think of this as an auto rifle when you activate Focused Fire, it basically turns into a Full auto Shotgun. Go into PVE (do the Tribute hall if you have any enemies unlocked) and test the cerberus with and without the catalyst at shotgun range. This could be a boss melter

I’m sorry but your wrong it’s the ultimate super killer and shotgun ape smasher
-
If yer within 10 in game meters the gun is basically a rapid fire shotgun with stunning capabilities. You gotta use it right.

Edited by NVMYGT: 1/31/2020 2:49:39 PMI like the animation, it makes me laugh when my 6 year old says "dad, stop punching your gun... you will break it" lmaooooo

The gun is garbage, a Catalyst can’t save it
-
Cerebus is a nasty weapon on smaller maps in pvp. Imo
-
9 RepliesThe gun itself was always trash
-
2 RepliesYep. I was excited, then thoroughly disappointed by it when I tried using it. Hopefully they fix it soon.
-
You’re using it at too far of a range. Cerberus with catalyst is fantastic. It gives you a decent ranged option and a great up close and personal option all in one gun. Using the Focused Fire from any range is a fail on your part. Use it up close only and use normal fire at range.
-
I think it's pretty fun in PvE, although i have seen people enjoy it in PvP. Just need to get much closer to targets for it to do good damage. It feels sorta like a primary shotgun in a way
-
At least they are making them more accessible. I’ve gotten 4 catalysts in the last few days (Cerberus, Ace, Risk, WTF that new HC is) when it usually took 4 months to get 1 catalyst previous to this season. I’m sure it’s about trying to hook New Light players right now so I imagine the upcoming seasonal passes will go back to ultra grind.

the gun is garbage anyway

1 ReplyBest fire is straight up don’t aim. Does over 100 more points of damage per shot

Edited by zmach1: 10/5/2019 10:42:28 AMIt isn’t all about crucible use...particularly at longer ranges. The thing rocks real well as more of an automatic shotgun in PvE. Goes through ammo slower and still nails yellow barred enemies with gusto. I always liked Cerberus and I like it a lot more now.
-
Go into crucible with one of your buddies in a private match and test it out the range the gun is actually pretty tasty up close my man.

1 ReplySo the catalyst actually makes the gun worse? I mean, I guess it's thematically appropriate - the base gun already does less damage the closer you are to a target for some weird reason. The only thing I've used Cerberus for is making taken blights heroic lol. Even as an auto-rifle lover, I really do not like this gun. The only thing I hate more is hard-light for its stupid anti-fun screen shake.

7 RepliesUm... the cata is busted. Theres a fire rate glitch if you tap the trigger in the right rhythm and it lets you fire like the normal firemode
-
14 Repliesthe Ace catalyst is very nice - BOOM!
-
I agreed with you thismorning. Then I actually used the gun how its supposed to be used, like an automatic shotgun. Lo and behold, the gun is amazing if you use it how its meant to be used.
-
Lol scrub can't use gun right≠needs rework
-
I like it
-
Its actually pretty awesome in PVE imo. It shreads yellow bars so fast at shotgun range.
-
I agree, it needs a total rework. The damage falloff is so extreme that it takes away its only advantage to counter shotguns which is range. The normal rate of fire works just fine so I don't understand what Bungie was trying to accomplish with this catalyst.
