Wine has caused numerous bans. Windows is listed as a required OS, any software that tries to fool the game into thinking it is in a windows environment is most likely going to fall under the emulation category and get you a ban.
The reason is that D2 uses parts of windows to for its anticheat detection, running in any sort of emulation it cannot detect what is actually running/interacting with d2 as it may be outside of the emulation "bubble".

They have not made any public announcements. And just because they say it is not an emulator does not make it so. By definition, it is.
emulator [ˈemyəˌlādər] reproduce the function or action of (a different computer, software system, etc.).
For semantics sake, replacing dx calls with vulcan ones isn't reproducing function, it's replacing It isn't the sort of thing I'd expect a public announcement about anyway, I'm not asking about a native linux port, (although there is one in the wild for stadia). Im asking them to not ban players.

The issue is not in the replacement of the calls, it is the fact the that playing the game on an OS other than designed for renders a good portion if not all of its anticheat useless. Stadia is a closed ecosystem, you cannot install an aimbot onto Stadia's servers or try to inject code into d2 while it is on them. Them allowing it would be a public announcement as it would be a change in their well known policy of banning attempts to run it via WINE and other such applications.
