I made previous Topic with similar idea but this one is focused about Exotic Quest Gear only.
Cayde's Ace or Lumina etc. should have an alternative for PvP/PvE steps.
Lets take Lumina for example. It requires you to play PvP that great part of community avoid and don't like:
-100 kills with handcannons
-50 orbs of light generated in pvp match
-invader killed in gambit
or for PvP players that don't want to waste their time in PvE Grinding:
-Complete 50k score nightfall
-Complete 35 points worth of Blind Well, Black Armory Forges, or Escalation Protocol
-Kill 100 enemies without reloading your weapon (this could be done in PvP i guess)
Why not make it up to player to decide how he wants to achieve it. I met players such as myself, that feel forced to play PvP and aren't getting any fun out of it, but i also met people who dont have time and will to play PvE grind over and over again like wells or Escalation protocols to get the item they really want/need to complete their weapon collection.

Deal with it Its like me saying raid guns should fall from crucible

3 RepliesThe way I see it. If you want all the weapons then you play all the content.

Edited by Ogma: Destroyer of Worlds: 9/10/2019 12:39:05 AMI think that there should be either/or options for as many pursuits as possible. I always see the PvP crowd on posts like this saying “if you want it, play it” as if that’s a good argument or makes any sense. It doesn’t. At all. What I’d like to see would actually give MORE PvP options for those players that prefer to play PvP post story content. It would just also come with PvE options as well. More options is better.

2 RepliesThe quests are already Weighted like 90% to the PvE side of the game. Leaving 10% to pvp. Very few Exotics are weighted the opposite way. I hate the mindless repetitive bot killing PvE side of them but I do them if I want the weapon. You’ll live.
-
10 RepliesNope. You want the weapon, you do the quest. PvP is barely in any quests, and none of the steps are hard
-
I mean. Pvp is butt right now so can't blame you.
-
1 ReplyHonestly, the PvP players I know really don't care about going into PvE to complete a weapon quest. My brother doesn't really care for PvE at all, yet he didn't really complain about needing to do it for Truth, Ace of Spades, or Outbreak Perfected. It's really just the PvE players complaining about needing to go into PvP. To that I say-- Suck it up. I'm not too fond of PvP myself, but most of these quests don't even really ask for that much. I've done all the Exotic quests in D2, and the only one I really found myself getting a headache from was Thorn's due to the void hand cannon kills. That was really just nostalgia from the D1 quest though, as it functioned similarly. Bungie just wants everyone to play all the content the game has to offer. These quests help give players the incentive to do so, and there's nothing wrong with that at all.

3 RepliesEdited by RPColten: 9/9/2019 6:46:35 AMHow many times has this thread been made? If we're going to repost threads, I'll repost comments: It's unreasonable to expect a game to allow players to obtain all rewards even if they don't play all the content. The Crucible is content. No amount of "I don't like it" will change that.
-
1 ReplyI will say that under normal circumstances these exotic quests should not be changed. Sadly these are not normal circumstances as D2 pvp is a sh*tshow and PtP added with cbmm, team stacking and bungie controlling matches so you don't win too much is a nightmare. I used to enjoy pvp in D1, D2 not so much and really stay out if it unless I am grinding a pinnacle or exotic or some other bullsh*t quest related thing. I managed to get all pvp exotics except malfeasance as I have not got around to doing the corrupted quest part. Lol yeah I am slow. As for pinnacles, I have gambit and vanguard ones and slowly working on crucible ones. I absolutely hate it, hate it and hate some more. If it was enjoyable pvp, I would be all over it. I'm not that good at pvp either so reason why it takes longer for me. Honestly though, some of the pvp steps are not that difficult.

2 RepliesI understand your frustration---I too went through a time where I hated anything PvP related and wouldn't touch it. However, I think the logic is a little flawed, for a number of reasons. I say this with all due respect, because I know it can be hard to want gear and not be able to obtain it (my raid exotic history is quite painful). Let me explain though: The first thing that stands out to me: you're talking about PvE and PvP as though they are activities of equal difficulty. While I wish this was the case, its simply not true. PvP is more difficult than PvE, simply due to the increased variability in encounters against real people vs. encounters against the CPU. Because of this, any PvE alternative would have to be so incredibly long and grindy that people won't be satisfied. The quicker route will always be PvP (assuming the options are designed to be equally difficult), and if they made the PvE steps just as quick then it would be a no-brainer to go do that instead. Bottom-line: I don't see the community being satisfied with alternate options. Second: this is a looter-shooter with RPG elements, and as such its quests are a large part of obtaining gear. Creating different options for every quest step out there would take away from the quest's meaning. Look at Luna's Howl--everybody knows how much of a grind that is to earn, so when you see somebody with it, you know what they've accomplished (I know recovs exist, but this still holds true). The same goes for Thorn, Last Word, and Lumina--having those guns tells people that you've gone through the necessary steps to earn them. I hate to say it, but the game isn't about "give everybody everything for doing whatever they want". That's not what a quest is, and is unheard of in this genre. If you think Destiny is rough, I suggest you go look at a game like Rust...its not a looter-shooter, but more of an adult Minecraft based around intense survival. You can spend hours and hours in that game, working for thousands of materials, just to have some guy kill you and take it all in the blink of an eye. In that game, there's no do-overs---when they kill you, you lose everything you had. Why do I mention this? Honestly, its because your request is like if a Rust player were to say, "Hey, can there be an option to not get killed by other players and lose loot?".....its literally just not what the game is about. Third: I really don't think this is a big issue compared to other stuff in Destiny. I mentioned earlier that I think your logic is flawed---this is especially referring to you saying that there should be alternative quest steps since the majority of the community hates Crucible. My reason for this: PvP quest steps make up a minority of exotic quests. An overwhelming majority of exotics have no PvP needs to obtain. I'm not exaggerating: Every single Energy and Heavy weapon added in Y2 requires absolutely 0 PvP to obtain. Of the 12 Kinetic Exotics from Y2, 6 require PvP: Malfeasance (through Gambit Invasions), Ace of Spades, Chaperone, The Last Word, Thorn, and Lumina. Lumina, being the most recent, requires you to go into the Crucible, but that's it. Your teammates can do all the work for you to complete the PvP steps. Malfeasance became easier after they adjusted the quest. As for Ace, Chaperone, TLW, and Thorn--these are all weapons that thrive in PvP. Why is this important? Well, if you hate PvP, then you don't need any of those guns (technically you don't "need" any gear in the game, we just want stuff). Take Thorn for instance, I literally waited like 2 months to do it cuz I barely played Crucible back then. None of those guns are incredible PvE weapons, so if you don't need them then I wouldn't worry so much. Also, I'll say it again: only 6/25 Y2 exotics required PvP...its not like every gun requires it. I hope this helps you to think about the situation at hand and see how it really is. Good luck moving forward, guardian.

i feel like in some cases it should depend on the weapon, something like the last word should require PVP because it is a PVP weapon, if you use it for PVE you're handicapping yourself. but it would be nice to have quests for armor exotics as well. Helm of Saint 14 could easily have had a quest tied to it with more lore in game.

6 Replies% It almost sounds as though this is you saying that people dont want to actually play the game. You say some people you've met dont like PVP steps. But then you say some dont like grinding PVE steps like Escalation, etc. So then what is Bungie gonna do? Its better than what they did for that lengthy Wendigo quest. I can grind 35+ Blind Wells in an hour or 2 but it took me an entire day to complete the Wendigo quest. And there's really no satisfaction from blindly grinding PVE content with no challenge in between(that ace of spades quest pre sleeper nerf was devastating). They could make the PVP requirements easier, but having two separate paths? No point. %

I'm not entirely sure why people think MMOs or looters should be like Burgerking: i.e. have it your way. These kinds of games setup challenges that you can attempt, or not, in a way that makes you engage with the everything the game has to offer. There should be weapons and armor that you can only get from PVP, or only form Gambit, or only from whatever other modes there are out there. There should be weapons that make you engage with multiple types of activities (say Strikes and QP) if you want them. Figuring out how you want to play then includes "Nope, I not going to try for thing X". If there is something about the modes that you don't like then I might suggest trying to get Bungie to update those modes in a way that will make them more enjoyable for you to play.
-
I’m sorry but I disagree. Cutting content from a quest because you don’t like it is just not ok imo.

7 RepliesAs a bad player I got TLW Thorn AoS all done PVP isn't as bad as people make it sound it feels like the problem with it is everyone seems to be entitled to winning which you aren't...if you want those guns the steps don't take that long and if you feel the need to stat check me more power to you and my point...pretty sure I have a negative KD and I know I don't speak for everyone that plays this game but whatever if you're struggling with them maybe you are worse than me.. TLDR pvp quest steps aren't as bad as people claim as a trash tier player that's my opinion

PvP's been part of Destiny from the start... it's obvious that Bungie thinks quests such as this must have a PvP component. IF all the PvP requirements are taken out of quests... On one paw... i) the queue times for PvP will be much longer. ii) stacking will be a bigger problem, not to mention that one 'side' can just drop out of the queue to reform their 'side' iii) less complaints from PvE onry folks. On the other paw i) you won't have one side going all Legolas due to a quest requiring 1000 porcupines ii) you have players doing their best to win... and not just "participate" by not dying in the corner iii) less toxicity since you just KNOW you'll be seeing 'that guy' later, courtesy of the much smaller PvP community. We PvP folks tend to make situations like this. Too many of us are just big a-holes. PvP becomes a place where you act like scum and use DDOS tools (who thinks we 100% use dedicated servers? Hmm...?) We're seldom graceful winners and always sore losers. We -blam!- and whine about the carebears... yet without them, the game's finished. Even given that PvP players might be more likely to spend more often and with larger amounts... we're an unreliable bunch at best. Ask Respawn. PvE are the bigger, more stable community. Ask Digital Extremes. Do we want to end up like Elite Dangerous? It's open PvP (yay!)... and every players has the option to just go 'Private' (ehh?) so you have sad clumps of a-holes camping newbie areas while the the PvEs treat PvP as the bloated rat corpse atop an open sewer. So unless we want that sort of thing to happen... got to keep some PvP in the questlines. Or this mode will degenerate further. Comp play is full of hackers. And the few with the right gear dominate the rest of PvP. It's broken, it turns people off and this October, a new wave of freeper script kiddies and whiners will descend upon us.

11 RepliesI know that invader step for the Lumina seems like luck in its own right. Partially why I haven’t even picked up the quest yet. Just seems a bit ridiculous.
-
6 RepliesI would love this and probably wouldn’t had taken a long hiatus if this were an option. If I wanted to play a PvP game I would go buy one, not one that uses the awful P2P “servers.” I’d grind every day if I could and never step into crucible if that were a choice.
-
This would be amazing! Bungie won't do it because the point of the quest is to push you into places you don't want to be to help bolster the population is areas that have low player pools. It's how they try and fix something without actually fixing it.
-
As long as I get a PVP-only quest that’ll reward me One Thousand Voices.
-
Bungee made it that way because they wanted it that way. If you want the stuff do the things.
