Destiny 2 has exhausted me, and I am putting it down for good

Let me post-preface my title with the fact that I love Bungie, and have since Marathon. Your projects have always been filled with wonder, and the current art and audio crew are the best in the business. Also, I have purchased Destiny and Destiny 2 on all available platforms up until very recently, and was happy to support the cause. Grinding caused me to abandon my PS4 and PC copies in order to concentrate on my Xbox copy, as it was my first purchase and XBLive had longtime friends. Your latest decision to gate your most interesting content behind a grind, especially one that (basically) requires a matched-progress co-op grind, not only broke me, but it turned out to be the last straw. After all the grinding for weapons and goals, I have finally and utterly had enough. Please, in your future efforts, put the wonder back into the games, and swap out grinding for accessible story. Until then, au revoir mon ami.

In Destiny ..we have no clear progress. The RNG will make you play the whole 10 years without getting the Gjalarhorn or Someone play 1 day it drop like rain. Then what Bungie did...Xur sold it which make everyone have it...whether you just play 1 week or 2 years. Of course they nerf it few week after that because they don't want Skola get killed. Then it become "Meh" gun...is not the same weapon anymore. Pissed off millions players. See...How stupid is that? Bungie should get rid RNG. Or add clear way to acquire everything in the game. Everything should have a clear way . Use the Strange Coin. So You can Buy Gjalarhorn for 10000 SC, Suros 5000. etc. You still have the RNG. Make everything can drop SC. Collect Banyon Bough 100..you can sell them for 1 coin. Play NF...you get 1 Coin beside other loot. Play Raid..you get 5 coins beside other loot. So you can play raid and NF many times you want each week...you make progress.

  • I've burnt myself out as well. 100 frames for a ship. Who knows how many frames for a Satou Tribe shader. Dozens of attempts for a 1kV. Anarchy. Nightfall specifics. Strike catalysts. Pinnacle weapons. Seals. There's a ton of stuff to do in this game, but it's all centered around doing the same core activities over and over again. I don't feel like I'm on a journey down a road, it feels like I'm just doing laps. And yeah, it doesn't help that so much of it requires me to find other people who also haven't been lucky enough to get something yet to do it with and the pool of people is shrinking.

  • I tend to agree, In theory you could grind this game for years and not get the reward, you could complete 1000 raids and not get the 1000 voices, their terrible rng system totally needs looking into. I can fully admit I'll be jumping ship over to Anthem when it arrives, it's given me just the excuse I need, and it'll be a welcome break from the grind from this lacklustre Bleak farmery dlc, and miniscule Niobe labs joke. Anthems flight system and underwater travel, along with its Titanfall kinda feel has totally won me over, D3 when or if arrives must have some kinda flight, it's added a whole new welcome dynamic.

    • I feel the same way. In D1 I could grind strikes or patrols, do a little iron banner here and there (despite hating pvp) and maybe get invited to a raid or two. Between vanguard, factions, and activity specific loot I always felt like I had plenty to do, a cool new weapon to try, and fun to be had. In D2 I hate milestones because I don't wanna play pvp, and gambit is miserable solo. Nobody I know raids anymore and I don't really LFG. And strike specific loot is only for nightfalls and even then has static rolls. D2 just feels restrictive and lame compared to D1. I'm not a fan. I think I'm just done with Destiny for the time being.

Then you will notice that these forums have become more fun than the game itself and you will realize they are just as addicting. Congratulations on your new found freedom.

Nothing wrong with taking a break. Too much of anything will get stale after awhile. As they say, variety is the spice of life. I don't mind the grind most of the time but some of the grind for certain weapons is very unimaginative. On the one hand, while the WOW quest and the Ace of Spades story mission were really cool it is unrealistic to expect that all the time. On the other, why didn't they put the Izanagi sniper behind the Niobe Labs unlocking Bergusia mission. A really cool mission that most people won't do because the only reward is an emblem.

D2 release: not enough grind Forsaken: too much grind Why cant Bungie make a good balance of both? Why is this so difficult for them?. D1 had a decent balance imo. It wasnt perfect, but it wasn't any of the extremes (not too casual, but not unbearbly hardcore). There should be levels to the depth of the game. For example, look at monster hunter world, its endgame has levels of difficulty and grind. Compared to destiny, you finish the story, and then youre thrown stright into a hardcore grind. Theres little to no in between. I think thats where the problem lies.

            • The grind for those stupid cores nearly has me at this point too. If bungo wont remove them soon, they'll loose more than just me, I guarantee it. Also, Anthem...

I would prefer the story once unlocked be unlocked for all your characters, having to unlock everything including forges etc three times over is just to much now, I've gone from running all three characters down to two, now I just main my warlock, time constraints and repetitive boredom have killed it for me.

                • If you have PS4, try Alienation. It’s like Diablo III with guns. I can’t believe such a simple game has showed me how much fun I was missing. It has a simple but rewarding loot system that allows you to re-roll your weapons, and upgrade them with Cores that are plentiful in the game. The RNG on legendaries are pretty cool, especially when you get a roll with about 10 sockets and random effects on the weapon. I bought the game for $2.49 when it was on sale but I think the max price for it is $19.99. It is been worth every penny and I didn’t realize how much fun I was missing until I play the game. I totally understand what you’re going through and just offering a suggestion. Have a great day.

                  • Wow, I'd hate to see how you reacted to a true MMO grind. Like, Destiny has one, sure, and it can be annoying from time to time with the RNG factor. But it's really nothing. Back in 1997, I started playing one of the first MMO's, Ultima Online. Not only did it have RNG loot drop, but all but a couple of your skills, like smithing, swordsmanship, magery, etc., started at 0.0%. Every time you took a related action, the skill could have a chance to go up by 0.1 to 0.8%. Most skills, you could get to about 35% in an hour, which is precisely enough to not fail everything every time. From then on, the grind began. At that point, skill increases slower to 0.1% almost every time, with a 0.2% increase being really rare. It also took more successes, or more difficult attempts, to trigger an increase. So making cheap armor was no longer an option. Now to increase smithing, you have to start making the more expensive and hard to make pieces. Mining, you had to locate and extract and smelt rarer ores, magery, attempt casting powerful spells, etc. All much more difficult and expensive, and all with less successes to show for it, meaning the cost to keep going was much higher. And to top it all off, skill progression rate was determined by current rate of skill use in the game. Thus if 50% of the game population were mages, magery, evaluate intelligence (damage bonus for magic), and meditation (recharge mana faster) would all gain skill 3-4 times slower than camping (useless). So the grind was extreme, as it could take months to get a single skill to 100.0 (and many more to get it to 120.0 if using power scrolls), and you had to do that for 7 individual skills. That's not even talking about getting money or items, buying a home, just skills. And functionally, the game only really begins once you hit 100+ in 2 or 3 skills; everything up until then has been the low end of the game. Trust me when I and many other current and former MMO players say, this grind is nothing more than an annoyance.

                    • I’ve been reduced to the weekly DC cycle quests and offering and any new quest that may come out, and only with my main. Drip feed content means I play at the same pace. It’s not what I really want from a game and if I find something new that I really get into I’ll probably just not play at all.

the worst grind for me is Not Forgotten. No gun in any video game should be that hard to acquire, not unless it one-shots everything or something. On PC it's practically impossible since the matchmaking constantly puts you up against the same premade team, that just stomped you last match, over and over again.

Grind for getting your gear score up to do said content? I mean... sure but this grind is really tame compared to most other games. Plus then they just stated that they are working on a catch up mechanic. So calm down take a break, wait for the catch up mechanic to be added then come back and enjoy the content.

                      • Must admit, for me the grind is over the top and this latest content drop (forges) is totally disappointing. While i do still play, it is for a fraction of the time during Forsaken and I probably will not take much if any advantage of the rest of my annual pass.
