1 ReplyHuman value is derived from God. That gives life weight. But God has promised us nothing except salvation for those who believe...and that every man will die. He didn’t grant us the right to defend ourselves. He didn’t grant us the right to an earthly fair trial. He didn’t grant us the right to vote. There rights were man-made on a piece of paper, which can be torn up and thrown away, or edited and forever changed. There is no such thing as an “unalienable” right. Everything you have can be taken away in a world filled with evil. Thus, what we have written are behaviors the state deems “acceptable”, “productive” and “to be followed” until a time passes when deemed otherwise.

1 ReplyThe idea of something’s being rights that are protected by a constitution of some sorts means that they are inherently privileges not rights as the government does have the ability to remove them with an amendment.

4 RepliesThe existence of any right goes only as far as it is defended by the people. Stop defending your rights, and you’re right, they become nonexistent.

1 ReplySocial contract, is indeed a societal construction. In the grand scheme of things, these rights are only words and ideas, given validity by the populace. But words are not a great shield, and in most instances, human rights can be infringed upon rather easily, as nature, and other humans, do not always align with our common ideals of how things ought to be. Certainly, we wish that people be secure in their day to day activities, but that security is only imaginary, as at any point, someone could revoke your right to live.
