I just finished reading the second half of the Fall of Osiris, and can I just say. The characters seem so... out of character. I'm not sure if it was just me, but the speaker seems so much more evil and dictator like... He belittles Ikora, insults Osiris, and even straight up exiles Osiris in a faux trial. What I'm guessing was Brother Vance in the first comic is someone I think Osiris would hate, but he was respectful when he hosted the Trials of Osiris (although i guess he is a bit of a cultish dick now). Also, I thought the Speaker was an adviser not a ruler. He "speaks" for the traveler, but I always thought the Vanguard held more power. Maybe i need to watch some Byf or more Lore videos to understand it all, but am i wrong in feeling this way?

Edited by CresterOts: 2/19/2018 4:09:26 PMWell....originally The Speaker was supposed to be a conniving dickwad.....and The Traveler some evil ball that brought The Darkness to humanity. Hell...you get that vibe when you first meet The Speaker back in D1. Especially when he says, "The Darkness...."...as the lighting around him turns dark and red. Also from how he says, "I hope your Ghost chose wisely" in a snake-ish way.

Not gonna lie, Speaker's a bit of an asshole in the comics. Wonder if he changed after Osiris left or if he was secretly still an ass.

1 ReplyIf you look back at what Destiny was supposed to be this makes complete sense for the Speaker to be a dick. Oh and calling it now The Traveler is LUCIFER he was the first angel and he was cast out of paradise he is The Son Of The Morning SUN+LIGHT=THE TRAVELER Boom!!!

It's a different speaker. He goes by the name of Luke Smith
-
Because, as Luke Smith has made abundantly clear, the Lore no longer matters and everything is fair game for a retcon.

The only vendor that expanded and made a seamless transition from D1 wass Tess Eververse.... the others were all dumbed down to a childs level.

2 RepliesEdited by Jezrelm: 2/15/2018 6:23:34 PMIt called reboot, they drop all the previous setting because they fired the main writer before D1 launch, the new comics is the new canon, I don't like it if you ask me, the writing seems childish and dumbed down, so I'm out, I'm not thrilled for destiny 3.

originally traveler and therefor the speaker should have been evil and osiris and his cult knew. since that story was scrapped they now awkwardly spun up some shit lol
-
I'm not really sure because outside of the grimoire and cinematics, I still don't really know these characters.

3 RepliesEdited by pig-golem: 2/15/2018 11:15:38 PMI could tell you why
but that is a story a for another day 🖕
You were surprised that the guy who said "I could tell you about what's happened while you were dead, but I won't lolol" has always been a dick?

1 Reply1. These characters are being written by different people. 2. You are dealing with people who live for 2 or three CENTURIES if they are "simply" human, or are IMMORTAL if they are Guardians. So you may being seeing how these people were several hundred years ago....and they've had centuries to grow up...and grow wiser by the time of the events of Destiny 1. 3. You're seeing historical events now....and not "legends" that have been passed down. Trust me. I was in high school when President Reagan was in office. He was NOT the "universally loved" figure that most people now try to characterize him as. The reality was he was nearly as divisive a President as our current President is. The difference is what it was his policies that divided the country...and not his character and personal behavior, as is the case with Trump. But you'd never realize that if you listened to how people now "remember" him. There were hints dropped throughout D1 by the followers of Osiris that the Speaker wasn't what he appeared to be....and that Osiris' exile had been politically motivated. 4. Yes, I think you might want to delve into the lore more. Byf is a good place to start. Because the Vanguard have never run the city. The City is ruled by The Consensus. Which is essentially a Parliament of the City's major interests and political factions.

They were all castrated
-
Well in D1 we didn't hear these characters show.........emotion

I think their different because as time passed they changed. People grow and develop over their entire life and guardians have more then one to do that with. Ikora grew to become the woman she is today, The speaker more then likely saw he was wrong about the vex, and Osiris seems to have learned he was wrong in some areas. As for characters like Shaxx this might just be them trying to give him more of a personality the same goes for the case of Andal Brask. As for the Speaker being far more harsh here the He was in game I’d like to know a timeline of events before the start of D1 so I can see what events came before the comics and perhaps this is why he’s so harsh maybe he’s trying to stop something from happening again.

The Speaker has always been the one with the most power. He abused it sooo much back then. Which is why, in the current world we’re in now, he was trying to be more compassionate and quiet down.

1 ReplyIt’s probably a different speaker. There’s been more than one. He may not even be British.
