The unseen side of Forum access restriction
Now, every opinion, concern, criticism, praise, etc. will have a little more validation because it comes from someone who played the game.
It doesn't have to be about censorship.

1 ReplyCensorship implies you are being denied a right? Where in the ToS are you granted any rights? There are none, only restrictions. It's tough love for some. But for most of us it's a significant improvement for the community.

It's like you cherry-picked your civics class (they still teach that, right?); you have the freedom of speech in a public space. Bungie.Net is a private space, and the owners can limit what you can say on it all they want without violating your first amendment rights. They already censor referrences to a specific group in Germany during WWII, several profanities, and some other terms; no one has shit the bed over that yet. This is basically the same thing, just on a different scale. Bottom line, if you don't own the game and / or didn't play the game, I don't want you on here bitching about the game. Even if your point is correct, you have no stake or investment in making it better for yourself or anyone else, so you're commentary is much more likely to be negative or distracting from the business at hand. At least from my perspective, you won't be missed. Edit: yay, downvotes! Let's me know I'm addressing the right people.

It just means that when the hate continues no one has the weak response of 'you don't even play D2' to peddle out any more. So the forum kicks some trolls (and some longstanding members who are not trolls but also not D2 players)...the game doesn't change. It still falls far short of the experience Bungo hyped before release.

20 RepliesThe forum is in desperate need of moderation but I think this is going to affect players who might not keep up with the requirement (plenty of people play D1 and may not even own D2) If you haven’t got to the farm you can’t discus D2? Seems like a bad idea for potential new players

41 RepliesThis is the problem with today’s society, people create their own little “happy” bubble where they only allow people who share the same views as them gather. Trolls are a problem, people like this exist in real life, grow up, learn how to deal with it. What is a troll? Some people see a troll as someone who doesn’t share the same views. How many people with a valid point have just been locked out. Just my thoughts.

2 RepliesI didn’t take it as censorship at all. All it does is eliminate trolls that don’t and/or didn’t even play D2 from regurgitating all the crap they read on reddit or see on YouTube. So many times I’ve seen a post bashing something in D2, only to look at the persons account to see that they never finished the game, played the game, or played the item of content they’re bitching about.

Now while i agree it shouldnt extend to the gaming off topic section, and that the forums have been around since well before D2, this site is very obviously about D2. So if you havent played the game, you have no business giving feedback on it.

5 RepliesJust another reason bungie is pathetic, they would rather spend money on basically banning forum users who are in their minds hurting sales. A development franchise company who actually cared about its playerbase would spend that money on making the game better. Bungie is straight up pathetic and have completely lost sight of its pve players.

2 RepliesMy only problem is that they are now moving ALL negative posts to #feedback so they cannot trend and therefore fade away. I've had multiple posts moved that did not violate the TOS. No bad words, etc... My post started to trend for about 8 hours and had hundreds of likes/comments and they moved it. Once moved, can't trend, fades away... Just sad!!

It has nothing to do with censorship or anything like that. this is pure damage control, they didn't do anything to keep this forum from becoming what it is and it has gotten to the point when ever i see the game mentioned in the media the state of the forum is mentioned because the fans are mad and if you read the stuff posted here you would think the game has no future. Sales were great for last year and maybe bungie thought they could weather the storm and keep people around but the ship is sinking fast. Most streamers and youtubers wont touch this game anymore. Bungie has to answer to activision and activision must answer to its investors. If your an investor right now D2 is a lost cause, sure they might be able to turn it around but how long will that take. If bungie puts these restrictions on the forums and then bans people for anything remotely bad they can say that the game isn't as bad as everyone thought, most of the posters here were trolls and now the forums are under control. it's all about business and keeping their jobs.

Only about 54% of the people who bought the game have reached level 20 (which is beaten the campaign and/or power leveled to 20), only about 14% have completed the raid, only about 14% have won a match of trials, and only about 7% of players have completed any prestige activity. This data is based on the achievement collection rate from Xbox live, PS4 data would also be appreciated. Personally i would like to see some sort of weight associated with our account, meaning if I a person that has done everything in D2 (completed prestige raid, prestige nightfall, trials 7 tickets, etc.) is to comment/make a post about endgame for example then some sort of "score" should be shown to say "This person's comments come with a little more weight than casual Carl"
