Getting the Ghost Speaker device to work: My findings

Hello chaps. Like everyone else who bought this speaker, I've had a lot of pain trying to get it to work. Finally this morning before work I managed to kick it (almost literally) into life. Rather than a step by step (because I was flying by the seat of my pants and can't remember the exact order I did things, I thought I'd share my findings and the general things I did to get it working: (Apologies if all this has been said before) • Don't use an android device to connect to the Speaker's wifi ----It doesn't work. Says something about request timed out. iOS safari and Windows chrome work fine. • Long WiFi passwords don't seem to work very well • kcjames1138 has reminded me that I had to do a 10x reset before it would even connect to my wifi • You will have to reset. A lot. To do a full reset, slide the switch 10 times, as fast as you can. • When connected to the WiFi, it may seem like it's not doing anything, but it does seem to be updating, even when all the lights are off. Mine started on version 0.0404 (or something similar) and after resetting it for the third time I noticed that had moved up to 0.5XXX even though my router said it wasn't downloading anything I recommend leaving it for about 10 minutes, then resetting. • Another hint that it's updating is that the behaviour of the lights will change between resets when it first starts up. • Sometimes, even after a 10x slide reset, the WiFi AP doesn't appear. Only solution is to reset and try again. • After you've gone through the update/restart cycle a few times, it should start connecting to the router itself, and then going black. This means you're ready to try and connect it to your Alexa. Just follow the normal instructions for this. I hope this helps someone; I was very close to sending mine back. These have clearly had very little testing, and seem to be all over the place in terms of firmware versions that customers are seeing.
