I had a big problem with 'ol Datto marginalizing everyone that doesn't like the new Nightfall timer system and basically telling them to deal with it and "git gud".
So I respond:
BigTexB007: Datto you are bitch. 90% of the player base doesn't make a -blam!-ing living playing a video game like you do. You and other content creators who have spent 10+ hours a day playing this Game are not the measuring stick that everyone else needs to follow.
And Datto Responds:
This is my opinion on the topic. If you want end-game, top level rewards, you should be expected to do top level, end-game content that is moderately difficult. I'm sorry that you think the pathetic 240 Nightfall has a ball-bustingly difficult timer, but it does not, even this week. I'm sorry that you can't just roll over the Nightfall anymore and have free loot thrown at you. I'm not going to agree with someone who says "remove the timer and replace it with nothing" because then we just get the exact same thing as Destiny 1, which was not hard at all. You wanna replace it with mechanics? You wanna replace it with bullet sponges? You wanna replace it with more majors? I don't care! Bungie isn't gonna throw mechanics into a strike, so that's out. People hate bullet sponges, that's out. People hate more majors, that's out. "Replace it with nothing." Fine, now you can get free raid loot, free trials loot AND free Nightfall loot for just logging into the game and being in a clan. I've yet to see a GOOD idea that keeps the difficulty of the Nightfall when replacing the timers, so if you have one, drop it here. I'm sorry that you actually need to think for a couple of minutes and plan a route through the Nightfall. Hell, I did a run yesterday of the normal Nightfall with someone who just hit 260 and has never ran the strike before, doing very little skipping at all: 6 minutes left on the clock. At some point, I think some people need to go, "maybe it's me?". End-game activity should be end-game effort. It's 15-20 minutes to get it done where you gotta focus once per week. Is that REALLY asking too much? REALLY? 15 minutes? But don't worry, because Bungie will succumb to the complaints of the masses and this shit will be nerfed by next expansion anyway, so you only need to deal with it for 3 months.

And I respond back to him and fanboys, but I won't put that whole correspondence here, it can be seen in the YouTube comments.
But someone on Reddit decides the post the interaction, WITHOUT posting my responses to Datto BTW.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/71i684/datto_replies_to_getting_called_a_bitch_after/
Apparently it's been there a little while, I just noticed it today. So I posted this reply:
Wow. I find it super hilarious my YouTube comment to Datto made it to Reddit. Although obviously the support shown here is because of Datto's reply to me. Funny.. OP didn't include my replies back.
Perhaps I was a bit harsh in calling Datto "a bitch". Maybe. Maybe not.
The part I took exception to was not the fact that Datto likes the nightfall or the new timer. I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with folks liking the new mechanic. None at all.
But, the fact is alot of people don't like this new timer mechanic. I sure as hell don't. And it has nothing to do with "challenge" or "difficulty". I don't like jumping through hoops, or searching areas for little Vex-ey looking boxes to shoot. It completely ruins the flow of the experience and is annoying as shit.
And that's where Datto crossed in a line in his video. He marginalized that whole group of people who don't like this mechanic as being whiners who don't like a challenge or change, and basically tells them to STFU and "Git Gud" in so many words.
THAT'S what I took exception to, and that's why I called him out. He finds it easy? No shit, he plays the game for a living. He finds the new "challenge" fun but can consistently overcome it? No shit, he plays the game for a living. He finds previous Nightfall styles boring and unchallenging? No shit he plays the game for a living. If he thinks he's the measuring stick for what's an "acceptable challenge" then he and his rabit fanboys can get bent.
In many of the replies on Datto's youtube page I'm inundated with folks sharing their lives with me about what they do and how much responsibility they have, and how even with all that they don't find this nightfall a challenge... how I need to STFU and "Git Gud". And that's fine. Sure, I can understand that.
But again, it's not really about challenge as to why I didn't like the last two nightfalls. It's because the timer modifier makes them an annoying chore when I'm supposed to be having fun shooting shit.
And besides that, I'm not talking to THOSE PEOPLE who don't make a living playing a video game. I'm TALKING TO THE PERSON WHO MAKES A LIVING PLAYING A VIDEO GAME HE'S GOT NO BUSINESS TELLING NORMAL PEOPLE THEY NEED STFU AND "GIT GUD".
In addition, Datto challenged me to tell him how I would change and I responded:
I read over the part where you call me out to suggest a GOOD idea. Here you go
1. Keep Nightfall Modifier. Wipe restarts the strikes and zeros out the score (but does not take you to orbit)
2. 30 minute timer with no add time mechanics such as "hoop jumping"
3. Strike Scoring
4. Tiered Rewards based on a final Nightfall Strike Score. Score takes into account fireteam deaths, enemies killed, precision kills, and final time left on strike
5. Actually FUN modifiers along with the shit ones that create artificial challenge.
Feels to me that'd address alot of concerns on alot of sides. True, the above may take some effort on Bungie's part... but hey just throwing a time constraint modifier is simply weak and lazy as shit.
And again, reading your second paragraph... you truly are a pompous video game elitist. YOU ARE NOT THE MEASURING STICK FOR THE CONSUMER BASE AT LARGE. YOU PLAY THIS GAME FOR A LIVING. I think you need to go "Maybe it's me?".
Anyways, just thought I'd like to share with my b.net friends some funny interaction... made more odd by the fact that it went off on YouTube and Reddit, but not here where I hang.
Still stand by my thoughts. And still think Datto can get bent sometimes.
EDIT: WOW. I put the kids to bed, wake up, go to work, take a late lunch and look at my Destiny app and suddenly I've got 312 notifications. Alot of shit talk too, fantastic. I'll get to you guys, don't you worry. May take a little while because many of you are quite zealous in tearing me a new one, but I'll do my best to reply to each and every one of you.
EDIT 2: Alright bitches, time to get some. It's on.
EDIT 3: Haven't seen ANYONE address my original point (beyond supporting it) that people like Datto, and other full time video game players who do this for a living, have no objectivity when identifying what makes an acceptable challenge for everyone when all they do is play the game all day. And really shouldn't talk shit to the Everyman for finding something difficult or unenjoyable when the video game lifer doesn't.
If Datto made a video stating why he likes the new timer system and showing support for it... I wouldn't have had any issue. At most, would've respectfully disagreed and stated why I don't like the timers. But that's not what happens... he goes on a tangent criticizing those who don't like it because they "don't like challenge" or "don't like change" or "want loot handed to them". That's bullshit.

3 RepliesFrankly, I agree with Datto and other “elitists.” Anybody remember Mythic difficulty on Halo? It was designed deliberately to be an experience that only a tiny fraction of players could complete ... designed that way. I for one have no problem with some content being designed solely for the best of the best players. I know I’m not in that category, and I accept that fact and try to enjoy the play time I actually get. I’ll never go flawless in trials, and I’m perfectly OK with that. Destiny 2 is designed primarily for the masses. A guy like me ... 40 years old, VP in the company I work for with real life responsibilities, married, 8-month-old son ... doesn’t have the time to put hundreds upon hundreds of hours into the game, and I rarely have time to go on mic and raid or run a nightfall (still haven’t done a nightfall on Destiny 2). I basically play after my son and wife are both in bed in the evenings. Imagine me going on a raid, and in the middle of the beast garden encounter my sleeping baby awakens crying and I tell the team, “Hey, folks. Hold on a few minutes while I go take care of my baby.” Do you think it is at all fair of me to ask a team to just wait around for 30 minutes? I’ll only go on a raid team when I’ve planned ahead with my wife such that she is on duty and I can promise a team I won’t be pulled away by a crying baby. In D1 I was an avid raider before Rise of Iron. No baby, no worries dedicating a couple of hours in the evening to raiding. Once we hit that 2nd trimester and things started really changing, raiding largely dropped off for me and I only ran Wrath of the machine one time. I knew it was unfair of me to potentially have to abandon a team mid-raid. I have major issues with D2, but none of them are about it being too hard. D2 is just not too hard ... sorry, it just isn’t. Half arsed story? I complain. Crappy infusion system? I complain. Perception that this is nothing more than D1 content cut from original game and re-purposed to be a “sequel”? I complain. But too challenging is something that this game is not.

I agree with datto, the timers add the perfect amount of difficulty and makes the players learn how to handle certain encounters for end game rewards
-
3 Repliesi would rather fight enemies than a timer, i like most of OP's ideas to change NF's and i wouldn't mind more majors or even some bullet sponges as datto suggested "people hate"
-
This is still trending??? OMG!! Who really cares about this pissing contest?
-
The funny thing about it all is in 1 of his newest videos he completely 180's. Saying Bungie wants the casual to have more fun and Bungie HATES elitism(Bungie has said this numerous times). The reveal when they talk about Guided Games is 1 example. Only 2% of the playerbase has completed a prestige nightfall & only 9% has completed the raid. Bungie will make more money from the casual than the hardcore

Timers have a place, but the nightfall isn't one of them. They're ment to add tension, not difficulty. The presence of a timer alone can cause many to make mistakes, second guess their actions, and become stressed as their problem solving skills kick into overdrive. All of which naturally make the situation more difficult, but doesn't directly add difficulty. A smart developer would be able to time a baseline, then implement a fixed timer that can't be extended, but is set to give more than enough time to spare, even for someone that would take their time. It's an illusion of constraint that sets the stage for real difficulty to be added. That's not what you see in the nightfall. To start you have a set path with waves of enemies that are added to slow you down rather than stop you, all leading up to a bullet sponge boss and his fodder at the end. Rather than adding smarter, more coordinated enemies, difficulty is raised by proxy to extend the time it takes to complete the mission: slight health buff to enemies, more weapon damage, and possibly more larger enemies with more aoe weapons or other weapons that instantly deal large amounts of damage. However, the intent isn't to stop you, only to slow your approach to the boss to create the illusion of challenge and difficulty. This is why the timer doesn't belong here. You aren't challenged by a performance requirement, you're constrained by unnatural deadline against proxies that are intended to push for added play time. The ability to add time back to the clock acts as evidence to support this. You aren't racing against a timer, being challenged by your ability to react quickly and adapt to conditions, or even pushing to skillfully achieve your goal. You're fighting drones and an end boss that exist only to extend the length of the level until you can find the clock extender to make up for the wasted time.
-
I’m fine with the timers, it doesn’t take more than 15-20 min to do a NF anyways, depending on the level and skill of people you’re with of course.

Good information, but who is BigTex? Sorry never heard of you, but hope to see you in Destiny in the near future.

Edited by mynameisnothypr: 9/27/2017 9:19:52 PMI agree with the fact that nightfall has to remain difficult to help the game "stay alive". I also feel like people shouldn't exaggerate how easy games are when it may not be the case for other people. The fact is not everyone is at your level. I see alot of people getting critized over this because most people overlook this fact. It needs to be acknowledged that people are out there working on jobs, going to schools, doing things that are more important than a game. So if you(referring to toxic players) are being an asshole to those who don't dedicate their lives to gaming, you are ignorant, period. (don't see many videos on how to beat the nightfall from datto btw) Edit: nvm just found one

Don't think your argument was quite as powerful as you think

Datto sounds like a bitch. He's not seeing a sub from me. You can't treat YouTube commenters like that

2 RepliesSo you call someone a bitch? Than continue to defend yourself??? Lol

Edited by Flake: 9/27/2017 4:40:59 AMI dont like the timer at all but Datto got a point. It's end game stuff so we are expected to work for it. You can see which mods are on too so you can prepare what you gonna use for the run. First week It only took me 3 tries before I knew how to do the rings. Last week it took me just 2 tries, once the alert popped 2 of my team cleaned while 1 looked for the Oracle's. Today it was super easy, I used the guided games and matched with 2 silent guys and we just ran thru it like nobody's business without ever chating or texting each other.
-
Lol. You idiots complaining about the nightfall timer do need to git gud so to speak. It's not hard. My team ran it last week (the exodus crash strike everyone was boohooing about because they're trash at the game) with two of my clanmates who both had not played D1. We did it first -blam!-ing try. You people are just so used to everything in this game being handed to you that when something actually becomes a challenge you revert to whining and bitching. (Oh yeah and we already did this weeks nightfall too. Wow. So hard) And yeah I'm a fan of Datto but even if I wasn't I could easily see the points he's making and not attempt to twist his statements like you have. I also find it more ironic than funny that you come crying to the Bungie forums as soon as a YouTuber actually responds to you. You're the one that insulted him first. Maybe you should shut up or learn to deal with the response you get. If someone calls me a bitch then you can bet your ass I'm not gonna be inviting them over for tea and crumpets. You can't handle a response then keep your damn mouth shut.
-
Datto's response is on point. I like that guy.

I know I'm in the minority, but i actually enjoy the nightfalls in d2 and i think the timers are just fine. It makes the nightfall unique and forces you to play each strike in a new way. As for the difficulty and whether or not its BS, with the exception of last weeks broken prestige nightfall, they've all been fair. I haven't beaten a prestige Nightfall yet unless you count the one for the legend of acrius, which was extremely exciting and my team killed him with 2 players dead and with 11 seconds remaining. For the normal mode nightfalls, they can be easy and fun, but require you to bring your brain. I started to really appreciate the nightfalls during week 2s "jump through hoops" nightfall. The first few tries I was like everyone else, condemning bungie of making a BS strike with stupid mechanics. But after thinking a little bit and realising that the first ring triggers the other rings to spawn, and that clearing areas before doing the rings makes getting about 12 extra minutes very easy, I realized it wasn't BS, it just wasn't what I expected. Through all 4 weeks, i have beaten every nightfall on normal mode with at least 5 minutes remaining. I beat week 3s with 7 remaining, and i know a lot of people thought it was too hard with the boss disappearing. As a disclaimer, i dont play as much as datto or other content creators in the community, but to give you a gauge to my power level, i have 2 characters lvl 300+ just from doing my powerful engram milestones every week on both characters. I've also completed the raid about 2 and a half times total. I've yet to play a trials match because I don't really enjoy pvp, but thats besides the point. If you're really struggling eith nightfalls, feel free to add me, I'd be happy to help people who are having trouble solve their problems Im Dat-_-Balla15 Thanks for your time, Guardians!

Man, Datto shit all over you lmao

I agree with Datto But nice self promotion on your part.

You started it off by calling him a bitch. I agree with datto on the topic though. However destiny is becoming more and more of a casual game to play. I wish they'd add some real challenging content for the "hardcore" players.
