I had a big problem with 'ol Datto marginalizing everyone that doesn't like the new Nightfall timer system and basically telling them to deal with it and "git gud".
So I respond:
BigTexB007: Datto you are bitch. 90% of the player base doesn't make a -blam!-ing living playing a video game like you do. You and other content creators who have spent 10+ hours a day playing this Game are not the measuring stick that everyone else needs to follow.
And Datto Responds:
This is my opinion on the topic. If you want end-game, top level rewards, you should be expected to do top level, end-game content that is moderately difficult. I'm sorry that you think the pathetic 240 Nightfall has a ball-bustingly difficult timer, but it does not, even this week. I'm sorry that you can't just roll over the Nightfall anymore and have free loot thrown at you. I'm not going to agree with someone who says "remove the timer and replace it with nothing" because then we just get the exact same thing as Destiny 1, which was not hard at all. You wanna replace it with mechanics? You wanna replace it with bullet sponges? You wanna replace it with more majors? I don't care! Bungie isn't gonna throw mechanics into a strike, so that's out. People hate bullet sponges, that's out. People hate more majors, that's out. "Replace it with nothing." Fine, now you can get free raid loot, free trials loot AND free Nightfall loot for just logging into the game and being in a clan. I've yet to see a GOOD idea that keeps the difficulty of the Nightfall when replacing the timers, so if you have one, drop it here. I'm sorry that you actually need to think for a couple of minutes and plan a route through the Nightfall. Hell, I did a run yesterday of the normal Nightfall with someone who just hit 260 and has never ran the strike before, doing very little skipping at all: 6 minutes left on the clock. At some point, I think some people need to go, "maybe it's me?". End-game activity should be end-game effort. It's 15-20 minutes to get it done where you gotta focus once per week. Is that REALLY asking too much? REALLY? 15 minutes? But don't worry, because Bungie will succumb to the complaints of the masses and this shit will be nerfed by next expansion anyway, so you only need to deal with it for 3 months.

And I respond back to him and fanboys, but I won't put that whole correspondence here, it can be seen in the YouTube comments.
But someone on Reddit decides the post the interaction, WITHOUT posting my responses to Datto BTW.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/71i684/datto_replies_to_getting_called_a_bitch_after/
Apparently it's been there a little while, I just noticed it today. So I posted this reply:
Wow. I find it super hilarious my YouTube comment to Datto made it to Reddit. Although obviously the support shown here is because of Datto's reply to me. Funny.. OP didn't include my replies back.
Perhaps I was a bit harsh in calling Datto "a bitch". Maybe. Maybe not.
The part I took exception to was not the fact that Datto likes the nightfall or the new timer. I have absolutely NO PROBLEM with folks liking the new mechanic. None at all.
But, the fact is alot of people don't like this new timer mechanic. I sure as hell don't. And it has nothing to do with "challenge" or "difficulty". I don't like jumping through hoops, or searching areas for little Vex-ey looking boxes to shoot. It completely ruins the flow of the experience and is annoying as shit.
And that's where Datto crossed in a line in his video. He marginalized that whole group of people who don't like this mechanic as being whiners who don't like a challenge or change, and basically tells them to STFU and "Git Gud" in so many words.
THAT'S what I took exception to, and that's why I called him out. He finds it easy? No shit, he plays the game for a living. He finds the new "challenge" fun but can consistently overcome it? No shit, he plays the game for a living. He finds previous Nightfall styles boring and unchallenging? No shit he plays the game for a living. If he thinks he's the measuring stick for what's an "acceptable challenge" then he and his rabit fanboys can get bent.
In many of the replies on Datto's youtube page I'm inundated with folks sharing their lives with me about what they do and how much responsibility they have, and how even with all that they don't find this nightfall a challenge... how I need to STFU and "Git Gud". And that's fine. Sure, I can understand that.
But again, it's not really about challenge as to why I didn't like the last two nightfalls. It's because the timer modifier makes them an annoying chore when I'm supposed to be having fun shooting shit.
And besides that, I'm not talking to THOSE PEOPLE who don't make a living playing a video game. I'm TALKING TO THE PERSON WHO MAKES A LIVING PLAYING A VIDEO GAME HE'S GOT NO BUSINESS TELLING NORMAL PEOPLE THEY NEED STFU AND "GIT GUD".
In addition, Datto challenged me to tell him how I would change and I responded:
I read over the part where you call me out to suggest a GOOD idea. Here you go
1. Keep Nightfall Modifier. Wipe restarts the strikes and zeros out the score (but does not take you to orbit)
2. 30 minute timer with no add time mechanics such as "hoop jumping"
3. Strike Scoring
4. Tiered Rewards based on a final Nightfall Strike Score. Score takes into account fireteam deaths, enemies killed, precision kills, and final time left on strike
5. Actually FUN modifiers along with the shit ones that create artificial challenge.
Feels to me that'd address alot of concerns on alot of sides. True, the above may take some effort on Bungie's part... but hey just throwing a time constraint modifier is simply weak and lazy as shit.
And again, reading your second paragraph... you truly are a pompous video game elitist. YOU ARE NOT THE MEASURING STICK FOR THE CONSUMER BASE AT LARGE. YOU PLAY THIS GAME FOR A LIVING. I think you need to go "Maybe it's me?".
Anyways, just thought I'd like to share with my b.net friends some funny interaction... made more odd by the fact that it went off on YouTube and Reddit, but not here where I hang.
Still stand by my thoughts. And still think Datto can get bent sometimes.
EDIT: WOW. I put the kids to bed, wake up, go to work, take a late lunch and look at my Destiny app and suddenly I've got 312 notifications. Alot of shit talk too, fantastic. I'll get to you guys, don't you worry. May take a little while because many of you are quite zealous in tearing me a new one, but I'll do my best to reply to each and every one of you.
EDIT 2: Alright bitches, time to get some. It's on.
EDIT 3: Haven't seen ANYONE address my original point (beyond supporting it) that people like Datto, and other full time video game players who do this for a living, have no objectivity when identifying what makes an acceptable challenge for everyone when all they do is play the game all day. And really shouldn't talk shit to the Everyman for finding something difficult or unenjoyable when the video game lifer doesn't.
If Datto made a video stating why he likes the new timer system and showing support for it... I wouldn't have had any issue. At most, would've respectfully disagreed and stated why I don't like the timers. But that's not what happens... he goes on a tangent criticizing those who don't like it because they "don't like challenge" or "don't like change" or "want loot handed to them". That's bullshit.

2 RepliesEdited by gallp13: 9/27/2017 3:19:53 PMHi Tex, Read this post again and it got old gallp thinking......why would you post this here when it's already on Reddit? You don't seem like the sort of chap who is looking for cheap notoriety......

11 RepliesThe first time I did last weeks Nightfall, my fireteam failed twice and after finishing I swore I would not do it again. Later in the week a clan mate really wanted to do it so I buckled. I just took on the responsibility to find and destroy the anomalies while my teammates took care of the adds. Finished with over 2 minutes remaining. Ran it again on my third character same division of labor and finished with over 5 minutes left. One more clan mate needed it so I ran it again over 7 minutes. I admit we play quite a bit but I am a 48 year old guy with average at best thumb skill. The key is to not rush and actually play what is in front of you. Every Nightfall so far that has been the key. Yes they are harder than in D1 but not that much more.
-
1 ReplyPersonally, I enjoy the time limit, but understand why many wouldn't want it each week. To each their own I guess.
-
5 RepliesYou both make solid points However, you could argue that Datto is not a high-level player, he made that argument on his own stream. If he is a high-level player, he makes guides on how to do all PvE activities with apparent ease. I would tweak 30 minutes down to 20 for your suggestion I agree with adding "fun" modifiers which youd have to spell out for bungie so that they would get what you mean. Also, they need to add permanent prestige nightfall rewards, not just this temporary "aura" thing

8 RepliesI like Datto. He's a smart guy, and makes really good theory-crafting videos. But he's an elitist, and can get **really** obnoxious when he starts talking about his own personal preferences where game difficulty is concerned. He can sometimes be arrogant, and is almost always utterly clueless about how what is "difficult" and "challenging" to someone like himself (for all in intents and purposes a professional gamer) ......would be tediously difficult at best, brutally unplayable at worst...to the typical gamer.

Edited by Force58: 9/28/2017 3:10:27 PMI watched Datto's vid and read your post and have to say I agree. I'm sick of Bungie doing these things just to artificially makes things more difficult. Of course it'll be easier for someone who plays the same game 24/7, and of course Bungie will listen to the popular streamers, because that's what they do. It's funny how a lot of the responses come from self proclaimed "hardcore" players. These so called hardcore players are the first to bitch and moan that they're bored to death because they finished all the content in the first day. I'd much rather play with 100 so called casual players than 1 hardcore/elitist. The NF should NOT have a timer, not at all. Adding that kind of difficulty is saying we're lazy from a Bungie standpoint. I'm all for making it more difficult than a strike, but I DON'T like to rush through game modes. I like D1's NF's much better. Yes, I'm one of those that would sit back and snipe bosses, but hey, that was F'ing fun!!!! Turning the NF into a god damn sweat fest is NOT fun!!!

3 Repliesdon't call people fanboys. you're literally pissed off at a mechanic in a video game and venting about it while calling a person a bitch. point a finger at someone and you still have three fingers pointing right back at you.

i like Datto but I'm on your side for this. He is quite oblivious especially since he makes a job over Destiny. I'd love to make money for playing games but sadly it's like winning the lottery to get a job like that. It'ss stupid how he ignored your claims about him making money off of playing video games.
-
3 RepliesEdited by Darklighter108: 9/27/2017 8:38:10 PMif only there was a way to get the idiots who pay to watch his twitch to stop doing that, he'd have to get a real job like the rest of us. Zero respect for full time twitch streamers. And even less for the people who fund him. You want to do it as a hobby and make a few bucks off it, fine, my friend speedruns and probably makes less than someone would for an hour at a minimum wage job. Nothing wrong with that. But man, this needs to stop. Too many sweatys making a full time living of playing video games. At least go out and create some. Twitch has really been ruined by these full time streamers and the morons who support them.

2 RepliesEdited by THUNDERCHILD: 9/28/2017 2:04:14 AMYou're 100% right. Don't feel bad about being downvoted on reddit. F**k 'em, the destiny section of reddit is a virtual circle jerk for the destiny fanboys (and BNG employees) who don't handle criticism well, they call it "toxic". It wasn't going to go any other way over there.

2 Replies"Anyways, just thought I'd like to share with my b.net friends some funny interaction" The only funny thing that i see, is that attacked him with a brainless speech, and he actually destroyed you with very gentle arguments. I give you the L it will suits you perfectly.

3 RepliesNightfalls not hard bruh I did it at 260 with two friends under 300 with 4 minutes to spare

1 ReplyBut Datto ain't even that good...

So tl;Dr Datto learns "don't mess with Texas." Some people jave yet to learn this. We call these people the scrubs of real life.
-
10 RepliesFunny but reading through all that and the comments on reddit...you got shit on.
-
1 ReplyI agree that Datto is definitely "a bitch" but at the same time I kinda like the timers. I like that it's harder than it used to be. I'm torn between my extreme distaste of that brat Datto and my preference for the new Nightfall system. Damn iiiitttttt!!!!!
-
9 RepliesOP should change title to BigTex Calls Out Datto. Datto provides a solid argument with proof. BigTex gets called a little bitch by everyone.
-
1 ReplyDon't know who Datto is but he's most likely a Youtube tard who ego has been blow up to Goliath proportions.
-
1 ReplyI agree completely. I thought this new nightfall was a blast though. The ability cool down being shortened was great and you could actually play each class differently. The warlock supporting with rifts and high damage grenades, the Hunter being agile and stealthy, and the titan being defensive or aggressive as heck. It was great I really enjoyed it. Fun modifier, with a fixed timer, not every point but some of the points you made were hit 😁😊
-
2 Replieswell think about it like this... ive received over 20 better devils from engrams found on patrols.. if that was also a reward from nightfall then how is it end game? what was the point of doing the nightfall when i already had 20 others of the same. the nightfall was higher power....mmm ok but i can also get higher power items to infuse from other activities. i didnt need to take on the timer to get it. loot from nightfall should be select.. Thus its encourages players to take on the timers to get that loot.... this is the same exact reason players pay for trials carries in D1 and now in D2

8 RepliesDattos reaonable arguements > Entitlement

1 ReplyI think Datto is spot on to be honest. I never really felt like I was improving in D1 nightfalls. Hide in a corner and kill ads is all we did. I'd rather work for the cheese instead of the old free loot.
-
2 RepliesWhy do you refer to yourself in the 3rd person in the title of your post?
