Hey guys! So about a year ago, there was a leak for something called Destiny: Shattered Suns. Nothing ever came of the leak, so most people wrote it off as not real. However, based on multiple parts of the trailers and some of what we played at the reveal event, it looks like that was completely legit, and will be used as the main story for Destiny 2. This is explained much, much better in the video, as it's really easy to explain via voice. (I promise there is no dubstep intro and "ya boi"s). However, if you prefer text, here you go:
So we know the cabal capture the Traveler, but we also see them messing with the sun and Mercury in these shots:
The Sun: http://imgur.com/G2GTsCZ
Mercury: http://imgur.com/tPmev2e
Well the theory is that they take some of the sun's energy using that machine, pump it into Mercury, which eventually would cause Mercury to become a star itself. (The mass of Mercury would attract the energy from the sun via gravity, which would make it have more mass, and the cycle begins anew.) Then, we would have two stars. "But we only have one sun" you may say. And to that I counter:
Two Suns: http://imgur.com/vSycBGC
and again: http://imgur.com/DPmieEg
But why would the Cabal make two suns? Well that would be absolutely catastrophic to our Solar System, and essentially destroy everything (pretty cliche, right?). So we go to their base to stop them, which can be seen here:
Guardian by the sun: http://imgur.com/FhhSRdD
and hopefully we succeed. (Spoiler - we totally do, because there are already 2 DLCs confirmed.)
In conclusion, the Cabal want to make a binary star system to completely wipe out humanity, the guardians, and every trace of us ever existing. Plus they will take the traveler and attempt to use its light. I hope you guys liked the explanation and theory. Let me know what you think about this theory down below. Have a great day!!

^ This post on Reddit was the foundation for everything. I just dug deeper to smooth out the theory!

There is insufficient matter for two stars to be made from our sun our sun is a very small star and weak in comparison to most others. There are stars that can fit 100s of our suns around them those are the ones that have enough mass to become two stars

Its possibly the mid year "game sized" expansion. It's probably a huge chunk of th Destiny 2 campaign cut for a $40 release price

Funny story for ya, remember the Centurion Oryx took on the dreadnaught, then the Centurion's bond brothers tried to go and blow it up? Heh, good one... so Ghaul has really gotten angry about losing his soldiers, and he's leading a team to blow the sun's core. Core goes.... most of the system goes with it, your gonna make sure that doesn't happen.

Could tie into a future dlc... Trials of Osiris

Well, that's a cool theory, but in all likelihood it is incorrect, and here's a scientific fact that is then followed by my not-really-scientific reasoning: "The diameter of the Sun is 1.392,000 km. The diameter of Mercury is 4,879 km. The Sun's diameter is therefore 285 times greater than Mercury's. If Mercury were the size of a golf ball (43mm diameter), on the same scale, the Sun would have a diameter of over 12 meters." Mercury is so small in comparison that it's magnetic and gravitational pull would not be anywhere near enough to create a binary star like formation. Now if it were somehow Jupiter (it's not, as the planet is clearly a very large terrestrial one), that would be a different story, as it is already a gas giant, and with a close enough proximity to the sun's exceptional gravity, it might be enough to kickstart Jupiter's fusion process, though far more likely, the nearness of the sun would start to strip Jupiter of its gases igniting them as they got close enough to its corona...I think. I'm not a scientist, but I have played A LOT of Mass Effect. Any real scientists feel free to laugh and point fingers at me. Now, if the OP's theory turns out to be true, it might point to a possible future, perhaps like one of the futures Praedyth saw and recorded in his Ghost in the Vault of Glass. It could also be a sneaky way of bringing back the Mysterious Stranger, as we have to jump through time to go back and prevent this extinction level event from happening, setting up future plotlines that may or may not eventually connect to whatever the original story Joe Staten had in mind.

anyone remember that part in the trailer when there was that massive explosion? maybe gaul blew up the dreadnaught core.
-
I believe that clip we saw was probably the first expansions. Would make alot of sense, especially since that large object looked Vex like, and of course it has to do with the Sun and Mercury.
-
Alright legit response. It could be Mercury in a death spiral with the Sun, it could be Nessus again in a death spiral, it could be crazy space magic/science spinning of part of the Sun to create a binary star system because bad guys. As for the physics, well the hollowed out hive Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, and Mars moon Phobos some how all have Earth gravity so I'm not to worried about that.

Sun goes boom solar system goes boom so I don't think so.
-
No because if the sun goes supernova the entire solar system and everything in in wilk be atomized if it turns into a black hole everything will be sucked in besides the gas giants as they could orbit it
-
Its destinys version of the sun crusher. I explained this to my clan on how it works in discord but no one listens to me D:

Isn't your title a spoiler in itself? GG.
-
My guess:
probably not
-
I find it unlikely they'd blow up the system. That's a trashy ending. Alternatively, it could be some sort of flashback of another system being destroyed.
-
Interesting. But I have a better one. The Cabal have been trying to spread their empire yes? Perhaps where they are from there are more than one or 2 suns. They could be trying to terraform the planets. Or perhaps, they are trying to siphon the suns energy to use in their ships
-
That seems really complicated just to get rid of humanity. Why wouldn't they just destroy Earth?
-
Edited by IronGemini: 5/22/2017 10:52:10 AMI think the clip of the Mercury getting blown up is part of the Osiris DLC. Mercury gets blown up at the end of the Osiris DLC so we have Trials of the Nine instead of Trials of Osiris.
Which has been leaked
-
I dont think it's our but I think it's a story about the vex against the cabal as there was what appeared to be a vex structure, maybe the cabal destoryed the vex's system before they came to us
I'm just speculating
-
Its called a Dyson Sphere.
-
I don't think so. Why? 1. Without a sun humans wouldn't be able to live on..well, anywhere. The destruction of the sun would signal the end of destiny, as there would be no one to protect, so no story really. 2. Pretty sure that's going to be a flashback of sorts when introducing the villain. The purpose of it would be to show he holds lots of power and is capable of large scale destruction (in this case probably to give the thought that he could blow up earth if he wanted to).

Edited by Barrierr-: 5/22/2017 3:07:13 PMHow do we succeed when there's literally images that you provided that shows two Suns??? I don't think they're creating Suns but destroying our planets. That's just the after effects
-
Congratulations. Worst so far.

Edited by Hurphy: 5/22/2017 4:34:13 PMOr maybe it's a cutscene of a dream sequence and you are getting punked by Bungie who are notorious for having trailers that are never straight forward (story-wise.)

CAN SANTA DESTROY THE SUN? TUNE IN NEXT WEEK AND FIND OUT

daaaaaamn that would actually be sick
