Only as a last resort. That's what Sega did after the Dreamcast went downhill and look at them now, still standing strong. But 1 less console per generation is a bad thing. A monopoly will cause another video game crash because of the lack of game system variety.

All the west ever sees commercials for these days are for shooters. JRPGs, Puzzle games, platformers, and other genres aren't even advertised as much as shooters are. We had more variety back in the PS2 days.
