What gamers don't seem to understand is that Nintendo tries to steer away from the usual home console experience, instead opting for a change in the status quo, trying to cater all audiences, and delivering the core of what gaming is: Having fun. It is not about having eye popping graphics, or having the yearly 3rd party AAAs, Nintendo was never about that, it was about having fun. The ideas they want to portrait CAN'T BE DONE ON OTHER CONSOLES because it doesn't suit their vision.

Gamers won't invest in the Switch unless it has a lot of strong 3rd party support. The Switch won't get that 3rd party support because the difference between the horsepower in the Switch and the PS4 and Xbox One might be too big and it will force developers to spend a lot more man power and money to build a Switch specific version of a game. This is what happened to the WiiU, developers prioritised working on PS3, PS4, 360 and Xbox One versions of a game and several months later a WiiU version would get released, and by then no one gave a shit. This was because the WiiU was a secondary console in most households and if someone wanted to play a particular AAA release then they probably already owned 'x' game on another platform before the WiiU version ever got a release. In the end 3rd party support just died because none of the 3rd party games had any decent sales. If the Switch had similar architecture to the PS4 and the Xbox One and power wise it was in the same ballpark, it would have made it very easy for a lot of developers to make a Switch port of all the their upcoming games. This would have gone a long way to improving Nintendo's relationship with 3rd party developers. The more 3rd party games, the more gamers would feel comfortable investing time and money into the Switch. I respect what Nintendo's trying to do but I think they are wrong.

  • Unfortunately, x86 is crap on mobile. Thus, why Nintendo went with an Nvidia Tegra.

  • Nintendo had massive 3rd party support when they were going strong in the NES and SNES era. They have to have 3rd party support to keep going as hardware designers. If the switch fails we'll see Nintendo games come to Xbox and playstation.

Unfortunately, if this happens, Their games will be overshadowed by COD, Halo, Overwatch, Battlefield, etc. For that reason, they mustn't leave the console market. Unless they find a place on Steam of course. Steam is the last bastion of anything creative these days.

  • I actually don't think their games would be overshadowed, they could keep the same art style but would have the power of modern consoles, I think their games would be do very well.

  • I understand that, but guess what? Almost all of their titles would've played just as well on a standard console. You don't need your map on a second screen. You don't need to spin a tablet in the air to aim or steer. Super Mario Maker is like one of few exceptions to this from what I understand.
