It's time for SBMM to go.
Coming from a player living in New Zealand, SBMM limits me to a very tiny portion of an already small player base. Just about every match I'm able to recognise one or usually even more of the players in the game and often matchmaking will take forever. I've tried using a VPN to play against Americans however this just causes me lots of lag and often being abused for my connection.
The thing is, there's already a much tighter skill gap due to how balanced the game is at the moment. People still winge about shotguns but in reality shotguns are no where near what they were in year one, they're still very effective yes but that's just because most maps cater to close quarter engagements which is was evident over the last 3 weeks of trials as shotguns were 85% of special weapon kills the first two weeks and this week with a big open map snipers are 80% of kills. Point being I think shotguns as they are are completely fine. Then if you want to talk about clever dragon/grasp I wouldn't even put them in the same league as thorn/last word once were.
Point being we could go back to CBMM and still enjoy tighter and more enjoyable lag free games. Let's just admit that the majority don't want SBMM, and give us what we want.

1 Replymatchmaking is a combination now. Most players know this. Skill is used with local close to you connections. if the distance or time to matchmake becomes too long they just use Distance Based Match Making. So your entire post is a moot point and wrong. the reason there is sometimes lag is A. cheaters more than you think and B. no dedicated servers. You connect directly to each other so you are having 12 people connect to each other. Its not optimal.

7 RepliesSBMM isn't your problem. Living in New Zealand when the bulk of the people playing this game live in North America and Europe is your problem. The reason why Bungie has the problem SBMM that it has is because of the reliance on P2P networking with makes consistent lag compensation difficult...and that algorithms are too tight. You can still have SBMM AND allow for monitoring connection quality. So that players who are a geographical outliers like yourself can have a better experience.
