Although some say she was "just a dog", that doesn't change the way I will miss her.
She was never "just a dog". She was family ever since I first laid eyes on her in the pet store when I was 8. The moment I walked through those doors to go look at all the animals, our eyes connected, and we were inseparable ever since.
And now, I am only thankful that I can look back on all the walks, all the car rides, all the messes I had to clean up, and all the times you wiggled your way into my heart when I was feeling down.
I can't even begin to explain how I'll miss the pitter patter of tiny feet running through the halls and down the stairs when you heard the jingle of your collar.
But before you go, I want you to know something. For the past 12 years, I have been asking you "who's a good girl, huh? Who's a good girl". Well you know what? You are. You are the good girl. You have always been my good girl. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner.
It really hit me when I scratched the one spot behind your ear, only to get no reaction. You just laid motionless... staring ahead... it was then that I knew that you were at peace.
God, I dont know if you are there or not. But if you are, I want you to take good care of my baby! I want her to be taken out 4 times a day and I want her to be fed at lunch and dinner. (Don't worry about filling up her bowl in the morning, she always has enough left over from dinner). Don't forget to give her her favorite treats no more than once a day.
Where ever you are now, just remember that I will always love you, I'll never forget you, and you will always have a place to sleep next to my bed.
See you later, ya little rat..
love, Nick

2 Replies4 days ago, a friend of mine lost his father. I am a 9th grader and he is in 8th grade. His family isn't really "wealthy" and so he is suffering. Every day at school, I see him crying. Tears going down his face. I can imagine he is shattered. We really don't know what he would do. His education, rent, etc.. I really hope they figure something out. That poor soul.

4 RepliesMan that sucks. As a huge animal lover and looking to work with them as a career, I definitely feel your pain. I've lost a couple dogs in my time, and it's never easy. One from heat stroke and one from heart worms. One was gone in an instant after a brutal summer day. He was an old guy. One we had to watch suffer as he was too bad to be able to help. So we put him down. All I can say is time will help heal. I now have a Golden Retriever who I love to death. And though I'll always miss Brodie and Shiloh, Champ is incredibly lovable and I don't know now what I'd do without him. After a while the pain will dull, and it may actually help to get a new dog, as it helped me. To help you if you're alone and also to help you get through and move on, as hard as that may be. Best wishes man and I hope eventually you feel better.

1 ReplyMy dog of 12 years was recently diagnosed with cancer. Lost another dog to cancer a year ago, and my first dog to hip dysplasia. All within a year. I feel for you, man.

2 RepliesEdited by Rei: 10/8/2016 11:41:32 PM<3 I lost my dogs 3 years ago... I still miss them. My life feels so empty without them. I miss the smell of the top of their heads most. Every time I hugged them, that familiar comforting smell... No matter how long I was away for school, vacation, college... they greeted me with such joy. Even when I troll them all the time, putting my scarfs around their faces and my socks on their heads, and they look at my with such indignant expressions. When they died, it was the first time in my life I understood why people believe in heaven... I found myself suddenly hoping it existed, if only for my babies; they deserve it.

2 RepliesEdited by DogChamp: 10/7/2016 10:40:23 AMI'm sorry for your loss. This has kind of opened my eyes a little though to how old my dog is getting. He could be nearing of his life because he's about 10, and I couldn't think of life without him. It really does stink that everything has to end, and it must be so hard for you do go on without your friend, but as long as you remember your dog, they will always live on inside of you.

3 RepliesWhen humans die, it's mildly amusing. When dogs die, it's soul-crushing.

Edited by Kell of Pasta: 10/8/2016 3:42:22 PMI know how you feel. My pet bird (the first animal that was actually mine) passed away, from Liver and Pancreas cancer on the 1st September, this year. It was so sudden, that I couldn't walk properly for three days, and threw up whenever I stood up. I haven't really gotten over her, it had that big of an impact. You're not alone

1 ReplyYou have my sympathies. I lost my "Little Girl" a few months ago after she got hit by a car. She was with me through high school, college, an engagement, a break up and she was always there. I at least wanted her to live long enough to see me married so she could depart knowing I was happy. Instead, I never got a chance to say good bye.
