If the vex share a single mind across a million units like the ghost tells you, then how was Oryx able to take one without the others knowing and shutting it down?
Does this shed new light on how the vex minds work? Two groups from mass effect are good examples of how the vex may really work
They may be like Rachni, a species of sentient insects who can communicate with each other at any distance via a sort of biological quantum entanglement, the rachni function almost identically to an ant colony, where the queen controls her workers with pheromones, the rachni queen does so with this form of communication and with sound, with the queen refrencing song everytime it talks about speaking to its children
And the other 'race'; the Geth, each geth unit contains millions of programs that must reach consensus before the unit makes a decision, in fact, prior to reaper upgrades, a single geth platform will refer to itself as "we" rather than "I"
Then there are Geth Primes, heavy tank platforms which act as command hubs that link all nearby vex together, so they may share 1 large mind made up of billions of programs. The geth also have server hubs to contain their programs, as there would need to be trillions of individual platforms to house all these programs, which the geth do not have the resources to create.
Maybe the Vex are similar to both races, in being able to commune with other vex regardless of distance like the rachni, the ghost does say "they can warp across star systems in an instant" so they can likely communicate at long distance with no lag. And the geth in being individual platforms that 'wirelessly' link other units with hubs for communicating and sharing knowledge with the whole, the Vex confluxes and possibly the whole of mercury
Edit: nowhere do I say Vex are all robots and cant be taken, dont reply with "they have brain jizz" I already know that
Edit 2: I have equipped my thinking emblem, prepare thyself

6 RepliesGeth shared their conscience instantly by having all their minds connected and always agreeing with each other. They're the closest to the Vex and as many of us ME fans have been saying from the moment we encountered the Vex in Destiny they're a lot like the Geth. As for Oryx being able to take them it most likely has to do with him controlling their individual units not the Vex mind

1 ReplyIf you were to wank off one Vex, would they all climax?
-
"Only speculation" you see there might be one mind to the vex that's why they act in unison but they bring other vex from other timelines meaning unlimited vex so maybe when that one mind got taken the vex just went into another timeline and got a new one idk
-
Based on in-game dialogue, they seem to work almost exactly like the geth from Mass Effect. They both are "synthetic" beings that share one consensus.
-
I see where your at, if computers are on a server and one stumbles upon malware and is given a virus, all other nodes on the server now have that virus. So why can just one vex be taken at a time?
-
Read the card for the Seditious Mind, while it follows the same "You are [] , take up the knife.." thread as the other Taken entries, Oryx says specifically that the Mind is a hole in the whole, a piece torn from a larger entity and controlled independently of what it was taken, or Taken I suppose, from.
-
3 RepliesVex are like living computers, each and everyone dear. You can take one out of the larger network and then it can still work. When they are taken they are cut off and maybe even put into a new network.
-
2 RepliesI've heard some lore that vex are actually millions of nanobots using the vex bodies that we see as a mean to do stuff. They suppose to be the white milky stuff that comes out. Not saying that I believe it, just putting it out there

A game of dice. They technically all agreed.

From what I can understand, the Vex are each individual units that get direction from one Mind. When the Seditious Mind got Taken in the Paradox mission, we saw Vex out in front and inside the Vault just standing around, shooting at nothing. Their controlling Mind is gone so they have no directive. That explains why individual Vex are able to be Taken, since they get a new directive, from Oryx instead of a Mind.
-
2 RepliesThe vex have organic minds - in one mission, Ikora speaks of it. It's the undying mind I think.

low orbit ion cannon.

Vex are part biological, so they can be taken. Because Oryx can take biological things, he can Take individual Vex units, but the "taken" effect cannot seep into the other units, as they do not share the same "heart" stuff. Side note: the reason why Oryx doesn't win everything with the Vex's multiple universe simulations is because the Vex simulations cannot predict the acts of Guardians, or Oryx himself, the main two groups of players in the Taken War.
-
When Oryx takes a Vex Unit, he separates it from the whole network. As the Seditious Mind card says "this is you first real thought" or something like that. The Vex cannot shut it down, as they have no connection to it anymore.
-
If you look at the Taken grimoire cards, the Vex's are different. This could explain the differing methods. Also, while all the Vex technically share one mind, the heavy thinking is done by Hydras, Cycopses, and Minotaurs, mostly by their Major and Ultra variants. The base level versions we're seeing most of the time should be no problem for Oryx; he just has to replace the external Vex instruction source with his own. I confess I have no explanation for the node units, but it has been noted they often behave like individuals, due to the division of computing. If so, that could be what lets Oryx take them.
-
I just want to fight the vex again in a raid. Probably my favorite to fight out of them all.
-
The grimoire cards for the different Taken enemy types show how each was taken. Typically it entails appealing to a weakness and offering a strength to counteract said weakness however the cards detailing the Taken Vex units read differently, more like a command to reprogram then an offer. Give them read, it's good stuff.

1 ReplyIn paragraph 5 when you're talking about the geth, you said vex when I think you meant geth. Thought you'd like to know.
-
4 RepliesThe Vex are Organic, not Robots. That's why they can be Taken.
-
Maybe, as soon as the Vex Mind knows that units are Taken, they get disconnected from the network. Basically Oryx is using the machine with his own operating system.
-
5 RepliesYou're overthinking this. Oryx can take anything provided it meets these three requirements: -Is organic -is alive -isn't infused with light Yes, as you stated the Vex are a collective mind. This is different from a hive mind like the Rachnii. But that doesn't really matter. The white fluid in Vex mind cores is radiolaria, a microscopic organism not unlike those found on earth. This provides enough organic material in an individual Vex unit's being to be Taken. It's as simple as that.

Each unit is a sub mind that is tasked. So it can effectly think for it self. It can send data back to hive mind and vice versa. Think of the vex as mainframe / cloud So each xbox on the cloud can function as individual unit. But can also communicate with the winder network. It can send a get data from this network. However I could one day littlary take the Xbox of this network. -blam!- with the insides enough that I could plug into my own cloud network and littlary hijack the unit. Sorry oryx is effectly breaking into your house stealing your Xbox and chipping it to work on his own network
