Lately I've been shotgun rushing, and as much as I deplore the play style, at least it's not camping with a sniper or mida. That has become the most overused weapon ever. People complained about Thorn, when only a few people would use it per match, mida can be half the players easy. Special weapons are way too good, they've nerfed the ammo, the range, but it doesn't change the fact that they are just better than primaries. This is the meta Bungie has created, imo as a direct result of the decision to have meaningful special weapons as opposed to sidearms, which works for PVE, but has been the bane of PVP for a while now.
