I said this in a reply, but I'll repeat for the OP.
Personally, I think only the paid players are the hardcore players. For them, it's a way to put food on the table, a roof over their heads. Games are casual entertainment for everyone else. Hours spent and perceived skill are irrelevant. Because in the end a video game is just that, a game.

Football is just a game, yet people are passionate about that. Gaming is the same idea. A hardcore gamer is simply someone who is skilled and/or plays a lot (25+ hrs a week)
