Ya cause playing splitscreen/lan Cell damage, Crimson skies, fusion frenzy, etc were highly competitive or hardcore.
Only thing I miss about the old days is actually being able to play with a friend in the same room without having $1000.
Games like halo, Overwatch, dark souls, etc still are difficult and pose some challenge

They are the exception. Actually, even Halo has regressed and implemented features that lower the skill gap. Games like CoD, Modern Day WoW, Destiny, Star Wars Battlefront etc have extremely low skillgaps, which means, getting rid of any kind of any real challenge, for the sake of the casuals that play them. You can play these games in a hardcore or competitive manner, but it's not as satisfying as it could be.

What's halo 5 done to limit the skill gap? Aside from removing glitches and button combos? Pretty sure they consult their pro players also before removing them

Increase in aim assist. Simple.

Edited by Tosevite 187: 7/9/2016 5:56:51 AMPsh you haven't played halo 2. There's way less aim assist in halo 5 than in that. I can't recall halo 3 but I'm pretty sure it's about the same level. Reach and 4 I'll give you killed competitive halo, or at least tried their best to but halo 5 has brought it back

It's done other things such as limit shield recharging. Many changes have been made, some good, some bad. All in all, I'd say it's a pretty competitive game.

Far more competitive than CoD and Destiny, no doubt.
