I wish Sony would have us change our username ID or gamertag!
Why hasn't this been implimented yet! Xbox One can do it and it's much easier to do so then what PS4 is still struggling to find a way to do it?
I guess the reasoning is they have too many people on the servers that they can't find a way to do it but I find it rediculous that they are struggling to find a way to change it.

Ive had 3 GTs on Xbox LIVE. First one was GrandHyperspace, second was DAN007thefoxx when I got my own 360 in 2012 , then I switched to Fox McCloud 007 and kept it since late 2013/early 2014. I figure its the least they could do since PS just now implemented a feature we had since last gen: cross-game party chat. This is what happens when you focus more on powerful hardware than on the social part of gaming....

4 RepliesSo a couple people have tried to explain this but it's kind of complicated so I'll try to do it in a different way. Basically, when you sign up for a PSN account, your chosen username becomes the identifier for your account. You then can associate emails, passwords, friends, and a number of other things to your account but the key is that it is all associated with your username. This is different from a Microsoft account. When you sign up for a Microsoft account, they create a number for you that you will never see. This number becomes the identifier which all your information (including a username) is associated with. Now for the problem with the way PSN does their accounts. You can't just change your identifier whenever you want. If you were to change your username on PSN, none of the servers would be able to find you and all of your data would be lost. The only way to change your username on PSN would be to create a new identifier, and then migrate all of your data over to it. This is definitely possible but doing it for potentially 100s of millions of accounts across dozens of countries is a monumental task that could take weeks. Not to mention it's almost guaranteed some data would be lost in the transfer. So in conclusion, it's a possible you will eventually be able to change your username. But it's a monumentally big task for Sony and pretty much a total restructure of how their accounts work.

My question to everyone is this, why the hell does your GT matter? If you think it looks "cool" then have fun wasting money and giving it to greedy companies. On a side note on ps you can show everyone your real name and make it look like whatever you want. It doesn't show in game but who cares?

Honestly though this name has caused some laughs like one time I joined a party and the leader was like what's this guys gamer tag, babyscumbag37 *long pause* seriously there are 36 other babyscumbags?

Xbox Live uses a number/totally different backend thing to identify your account. Doing this across multiple generations makes the work to make this happen [i]non trivial[/i]. I don't know what it will take to do so, but I imagine it's fraught with peril. Remember that a lot of stuff that's been a longstanding issue doesn't stick around because nobody cares, but because there might not be a really great way to fix it. So until there's a good plan and timeframe set up, that will probably have to wait.

I love the fact we can't. Everytime i play online i get a good laugh at the expense of others poor decision making probably when they were younger. I made mine when i was 14 or 15, and I'm 28 now and still haven't though about wanting to change it. I'm attached to it and i own it. Nothing to be ashamed of.

I used to change it like every 2 months back on the 360, but then I just settled with OnlyAlfredo and I've had it for 2 years. Plus I realized that your name doesn't matter, and I'd rather have a stupid name that makes people laugh than anything serious.
