3 RepliesIt's only gotten a lot of praise recently because it's what make others feel superior to those who play The Division, and The Division players feel superior to Destiny players. I'm a Dark Souls fan myself, but all of these new "fans" who are hyping it up are going to be the same people shitting on it a week later because they can't beat it.

1 ReplyI thought the same thing for a long time about the souls games. Just bought DS 2 on Saturday for my ps4 to try it out, see if I might like 3. It is definitely not a hack and slash lol. It's a game that will reward patience and remaining calm and will absolutely punish you and destroy you if you try to treat it like a typical hack and slash. I just finished beating the lost sinner, I can't tell you how far exactly I am through the game as I have been completely avoiding walkthroughs or guides, but so far there aren't such a thing as filler enemies really. It happens to me still, I'll be running through an area, after I beat it, just checking things out and exploring, will run into enemies that gave me little trouble earlier because it's a new area and you're taking things slow, so you start to get complacent, figure I'm a lot stronger than I was so ill just steamroll these guys. Then I get smoked. And angry. You will get mad playing it. It's like breezing through that first mine in skyrim. Imagine going there after you beat the dragon at white run, you'd probably just breeze right in, couple smacks with your sword, don't bother blocking because they are low level bandits and won't really hurt you much. Dark souls of you don't block or dodge these attacks and treat it like a fight, they are going to attack you, hurt your feelings, spit on your corpse and laugh as you rage at your screen for dying to the equivalent of a red shirt in Star Trek. Give it a try!

It's not for everyone. I wouldn't say there is a huge craze over it, sales aren't exactly massive. Dark Souls, Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the first sin only sold 8.5 million units added together. It's a niche title with a pretty dedicated following. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-07-01-dark-souls-series-sales-surpass-8-5-million

Skyrim is a hack and slash game. Dark Souls requires patience and thinking. You can't just charge into some church spamming RB expecting to win. You have to time you strikes and learn enemy patterns.

The first time I played Dark Souls I was p*ssed at how much I was dying since I played a lot of games on the hardest difficulty and rarely failed. Then I found out dying is normal and part of the learning process in Dark Souls and I love it. It's a game about exploration and learning to fight, while adapting to various enemy types.

1 ReplyI hate hack and slash games. I love Dark Souls. Dark Souls isn't a hack and slash game.

2 RepliesEdited by gethyn007: 4/12/2016 5:44:30 PMReported for hate speech, blasphemy, inciting riot, and failure to praise the sun. Seriously, about 10 out of 10 people who say things like that about souls games have not beaten them. Not being mean or picking at you or anything. The first time I played Dark Souls, I was actually not all that impressed and didn't see what all the fuss was about. Truth be told, I had only made it a little ways into the game. Funny thing is that something remained in the back of my mind and every now and then I would think about it for some reason. It was almost like there was something about it that was pulling me back lol Years later, I decided to try Bloodborne, and I cannot express to you how utterly obsessed and fascinated I became with that game - the lore, the gameplay mechanics, the look and feel, the atmosphere, the difficulty - it was utterly amazing. I ended up beating the game loads of times - new game plus, plus, plus, plus, etc., etc., trying out every build I ever wanted, every weapon, farming chalice dungeons, the works. After that, my hunger for that sort of game was at an all time high, I wanted more. Other games got to the point where they just didn't compare. They were too easy, too casual, and just not dark souls. I went on to beat Scholar of the First Sin multiple, multiple times and became just as addicted as I was with Bloodborne. After that, I just HAD to pick up an old system, nabbed an old 360 and went nuts with Dark Souls 1. And now, at long last, a new adventure - just picked up my preorder if Dark Souls 3 :D The fact that you even thought about it enough to make a post about it tells me something. There is a darkness, a hunger deep within you as well. Within that darkness is a flame, however small, a light, however faint... Though ye may have lost your way, thou art chosen. In time, thou shalt indeed praise the sun! \o/

You've never played it \[T]/ ;)

You've never played it, have you?

3 RepliesGet the first game for 5 bucks it's gonna be Backwards compatible soon. Just try and play it like a standard hack and slash, you will fail over, and over, and over again. Let me put it this way it has everything a Turnbased game would have with out being Turnbased.
-
If it was a hack n slash game I would so be playing the Dark Souls games
-
Lol subtle troll.
-
Go in and play like a hack and slash game. You won't get through the first boss. It's much more advanced than a God of war style game
-
Spoken like a true desticle
-
You wouldn't make it passed the first boss if you hacked and slashed

1 ReplyGit rekt ya damn dirty casul
