Ok, so all I hear in raids is "put on your best sniper" or "everyone should only be sniping at golgoroth's belly"........Well, here's what I know from looking at the stats after the team dies or wipes. I used a 306 Baron's Ambition machine gun on golgoroth followed by a few shots from my sniper if time allowed. When the stats screen came up after wipe I was always #1 or #2 on damage to golgoroth with that strategy.
My question is simple math: Do for example 40 hits with a machine gun at say 3,100 damage not beat 8 hits with a sniper at say 8-12,000 damage? Depending on your sniper DPS I would say a lot of guys ARE confused, and they're confusing some of the newer guys by telling them what to do.....especially if the guy's snipers have slow reload which really holds the team back in the raid. If you only have time to shoot 4-6 shots at a boss you're not really helping unless you have a 20,000 dps sniper which I don't see a lot of guys using.
My point is basically that far too often the guys giving advice are the same one's bitching when the weak link doesn't succeed with their advice. I know from experience less mouth running and more focus would help the raid teams, every time talking goes up performance goes down in raids I've been on. Checking the stat screen after wipes would be the best strategy to tell you what to use as YOUR best DPS, not someone else's.
EDIT: I said EXAMPLE when mentioning stats per gun......the math comparison still remains the same unless you have one of the best guns which a lot of guys don't.

The sad part is... Black Spindle is attainable by EVERYONE. It's not a random drop. It's not part of Bungie's trash RNG.... It takes some work, but you can put together a group, work together, and go get it. And it's quite simple. Regardless of what you're going to read, Black Spindle is going to do a TON of damage on WP and Golg if you can hit your crits. To be quite honest, I run the raid 3 times a week. I am usually 1 or 2 on the DPS list using my 317 Spindle. And if I'm not, it's user error. I never look at the damage numbers and think. WOW, what is this guy using because it blows my Spindle away. I can pump 23 rounds into WP with a good aura holder and have enough time to maybe get a full terminus clip into him, granted I hit all of my crits. When that happens, I have only been out dpsed ONCE. And that was by a guy with a 320 Spindle and 2 light levels higher than me. (Obviously, he hit all of his crits, too.) Depending on your group with Golg, I can see how different set ups might work better, depending on how much time you're getting in the pool. But you're still not going to be topping that list without a strong sniper with AMAZING reload perks on multiple pieces of gear. Point being. Go get a Spindle, and learn how to use it. If you're running the raid, Spindle is achievable for you. Regardless of what people are saying, you're always going to be close to the top of this list.

Hey kiddo, Snipers do 80,000 to 130,000 damage per shot. They easily dominate in critical damage.

Edited by Amazin Harry01: 11/24/2015 8:55:27 PMMelting point plus weapons of light on golgoroth= 137000 damage a hit using black Spindle No other weapon has that sort of sustained damage

Edited by VULFDREK: 11/24/2015 8:53:44 PMIf you're not totaling over a million DPS on Golgoroth then you're on ad duty.

2 RepliesI use Black Hammer and can get off all 18 shots on Golgoroth. It's crazy damage. The Black hammer is the only sniper rifle I would recommend over a good machine gun for that encounter.
-
If you don't have the spindle weapon switching is a must. Cocoon perked raid weapons are great for this
-
I know exactly what you mean. I was told the same thing the first time a "veteran" was taking us through Golgoroth. For him that may have been the best option, but once I started using my MG instead, I was topping the damage chart (he was holding gaze). I know my sniper is crap, but so is my RNG luck (no matter how many virgins I sacrifice). Now, was switching to my sniper instead of reloading the MG, but to make the blanket statement that x is what you should be using isn't necessarily true. Yes, if you have all the right gear to "correctly" go through the raid, sniper may be the best option at that point, but until your entire group is "correctly" outfitted, it ain't necessarily so.
-
Mgs are best for dps. Unless you have black spindle or no time to explain
-
Everytime we get to that screen someone says look i did the most damage. But if we are looking at that screen its a fail. So what does it matter how much damage you did?
-
I prefer no time to explain with raid snipe raid heavy. I never waste anytime reloading anything and I used to find myself constantly running out of ammo. Usually no longer a problem with no time.

12 RepliesI do 5,000 a shot with my raid machine gun. If I hit 42 crits, I do 210,000 in a mag. With my Black Spindle I do 90,000+ a shot. I think I'll stick to my sniper.

9 RepliesEdited by Slaynite: 11/23/2015 7:41:39 PMMy favorite example of this came just this week. We're at the warpriest, team of randoms. Guy is like "alright folks, you gon' learn today" Already I'm like wut. "Put your spindles away, all you need is touch of malice, facts. We're gonna do this 2 runs maximum. Dip in and out of Blessing GG NO RE" I mull it over, nope that makes no mathematical sense whatsoever. You guys do you. "Told ya'll I'd be teaching today" Wut. End of the 4th run, we wipe, not a surprise. DAMAGE: Tiny Dick-300k Sheep 1-300k Sheep 2-290k Sheep 3-300k Sheep 4-200k-brand mostly tho Me-750k ecneremiL has departed. Left before the guy could tell me to use The Swarm on Golgoroth or something. Maybe Invective.

I love how my team wiped at Golgorath, and I did 4,000,000 damage, but the second highest teammate was at 200,000.

Edited by trishark1: 11/24/2015 12:36:07 AMIf ur talking about golgoroth your numbers are WAY off! A good sniper does 100k dmg per shot with WoL. If you add a tether, thats an extra 20k dmg. Also, if you can only get off 8 shots in the time his belly is open ur doing something wrong. With my 1000 yd, i get off at least 3 full mags every time, normally even 4. With black spindle, i can empty all ammo AND a mag of my MG. I hate to tell you, but snipers are definitely the best for all except oryx and daughters. Edit: With my 1000 yd i can get well over 1 mil dmg each phase and with BS i can get 2 mil+ each phase. With only an MG you can get maybe 500k. All of this argument applies to all bosses, with different #s of course
-
My spindle does 139k a shot with tether. So that's the go to gun for sure.
-
That's why the raid weapons have cocoon, so you can switch weapons while maintaining damage while never having to reload
-
2 RepliesWhat machine gun are you hitting 3100/shot? Seems to be about double or more than any actual machine gun. Raid LMG at 318 doesn't does about 1500/shot and in no way is it hitting 10x before someone can get to snipes off at 11000 each.
-
None of the scrubs you played with have black spindle or ToM with blessings
-
19 Repliesyes, console gamers do not understand what DPS is and all of its intricacies. when "snipers are the best" is being said, what is REALLY meant is: high RoF AND capacity snipers are the best to use in the damage sections in conjunction with another weapon, such as an LMG, or other specific weapons (like ToM and NTTE). YOU get it. use your sniper to empty-out its mag, AND THEN SWITCH TO ANOTHER GOOD DPS WEAPON (like an LMG)!!! you'd think with all o fthe CoD players they'd understand that its faster to switch weapons then to reload. yes, there are always exceptions (like a sniper with spray and play), BUT we're talking about generalized DPS misconceptions here. hell, even a sniper is'nt always the best option: I used my 18 mag jabberhakke in my first raid-run and out DPSed everybody elses snipers. empty out the heavy LMG, switch to sidearm, empty it out, then switch to boolean, which will be towards the last moment of DPS phase. snipers, by nature, are high BURST damage weapons (because each shot does alot of damage in a single instant, just like rocket launchers). but their DPS can become low because their ammo reserves and RoF are low, meaning all of that sweet-sweet damage suddenly stops.
-
I wish Destiny would put in an in depth way to see how much damage you did to a boss without having to wipe.
-
I may be wrong but does spindle not do 110k per shot when golgy is tethered...72k dmg per shot without tether....can easy get off 9-12 shots per run....
-
6 RepliesBlack spindle will out dps anything, with WoL and tether I hit over 100k and can shoot 23 shots per rotation on golg.
-
3 RepliesIf you're doing 8-12,000 per sniper shot on golgoroth then you aren't hitting his crit spot. With weapons and/or tether you easily do 75k per shot with a sniper. Much More with black spindle.
-
3 RepliesI just wanted to throw out there that if you have raid gloves (especially with sniper reload perk) black spindle is NOT best for WARPRIEST. Golgoroth is a different story because you aren't in an aura. However, on warpriest the aura reload perk and faster rate of fire make 1000 yard stare a better option than the spindle. If you have sniper reload perk too, the reload is literally like 1 second which makes up for spindle not having to reload but a very slow rate of fire. I am aware that the rate of fire isn't all that much faster (I also have a 5 shot mag on my 1k yd stare) so they do about the same damage. The reason I say it's better is because you can equip a different exotic like the sleeper simulant, which 1 round is about equal to 2 sniper rounds. So you can essentially rattle off 14 sniper rounds in a short amount of time (aura reload perk) then start using your sniper rifle. None of this applies to golgoroth since you aren't in an aura and reloading is much slower even with sniper reload perk.

I've always heard "Machine Gun or Sniper" so I don't follow where this is coming from. Only things known are: Rockets do less damage along with significantly slower RoF than Sniper Rifles. Fusion Rifles do less damage along with significantly slower RoF than Sniper Rifles. Shotguns lose a significant amount of damage just from sheer range, and also suffer from low RoF. Primary weapons do less Damage per Second than Special Weapons. This is why "Sniper Rifles or Machine Guns" Some Machine Guns actually have less output than some Sniper Rifles, and vice-versa, which may drive some opinions. Eg. Outpacing an accurate Eirene with LitC is damn near impossible.

And this is why Coccoon is on the Raid weapons!
