The Halo 5 Campaign SUCKS

So I'm just going to acknowledge something that's driving me crazy... The people that say "Halo 5 campaign is really good and makes sense if you've read the books and lore" sound just like the people that day "Destiny actually has a really good story, you just need to read the Grimoire." I can't believe Halo 5 is being praised as such a great game. It's no doubt the worst campaign of any Halo! Multiplayer is good, but it doesn't feel like Halo at all. I had to switch my control scheme and even then I can't do this Thruster/Ground Pound/Shoulder Charge crap... I'm not giving up on multiplayer until after I've tried all the content they were kind enough to not finish before the release, for now it's decent. Definitely no higher than a 5 or 6 out of 10. Edit: I feel like people that haven't beaten the game yet really shouldn't argue... It wasn't until I finished the game that I looked at my girlfriend and we both immediately said "Is that it?" But hey, people have opinions. I'd like to point out that 90% of the advertisements for Halo 5 were not actually accurate in any way at all. Not even a little bit.
My biggest issues with the campaign: No explanation of where 7/8 playable Spartans came from. Blue team was only playable for 3 missions. I don't like Locke, and I'm never going to like him if 343s strategy is to force us to play as him until Chief is no longer relevant. The Forerunner enemies have changed, and not really in a good way, the soldiers are terribly annoying. I will say making the Knights closer to the Hunters of the Forerunners was a good idea. Cortana is the bad guy? Who's idea was that? WTF. Chief is portrayed as the "traitor" in the ads, he was not hated, or feared, or "hunted". He was just looking for the one thing he cares about. Ammo count dropped dramatically, even on Normal I start picking up random crap weapons in about 5 minutes. And why the hell is Arbiter involved in this? If you are bringing him in and saying he's at war with the Covenant at least explain why??? Then there's the fact that Locke doesn't bother showing any emotion when he's given orders. People complained that Chief had no humanity, and that Locke would be so much better, but he's the exact same! And where the hell are the Brutes??? I'll add to this as I have time. This list could go on forever, but I'm working.
• I agree. The campaign is a complete joke 343i has proven they are incapable of handeling the Halo franchise. From Halo 4's Mulitplayer issues, to the MCC and now with Halo 5's dreadful campaign.

  • I give campaign a 3-4 and multiplayer a 5-6. Nothing special about both, only other halo campaign this bad was halo 2's campaign, but at least it explained what was going on.

  • Why is anyone surprised "halo" 5 has a garbage story. "halo" 4 started a completely different AND NON-HALO story line and they seemed to double down on their bad decisions thinking they are doing the Halo franchise a favor.

  • Yea bud this game was so bad. I'm over here thinking we will be more involved with the hunt but hell no. Locke isn't even interesting. Problem is bud, is the people who say this is good Havnt played halo when it began. All these days all everyone cares about is 60fps or graphics whatever. There is nothing original about this game at all. the background ship designs aren't cool like the old ones when u had the covinent glassing the planets, the gameplay felt more like cod advance warfare or titan fall. Whoever started that Trent of ground pound and runing smash. The story is so cliche for cortana going rouge. By cliche I mean every story and movies these days some ai goes Crazy, terminator, age of ultron ect. I read the books and understand everything of what's going on. But I wish these stories just stayed in the books. Blue team is cool but chief going lone wolf was the best. I think the best thing about the original halos is you are this weak human force going up against this powerful alian force while the flood breaks out and kills everything. Chief was a mystery as well as the forerunners. Now there is no mystery and we know everything. To me personally I gave the campaign a 2/10 and multiplayer a 8/10. Yes I rated each separate. Bungie if your listing please !!!!! Get back halo !!!!!!!!343 sucks. Oh and make cortana hot again wth is this new crap !

  • I agree with some things mainly the way the story was completely different than advertised you're right he wasn't hunted he wasn't a traitor he wasn't hated there was no "truth" that really messed the game up for me

  • Umm.... No, the campaign was beautiful. You got all the information if You listened to the in game dialogue. It was immersive, interactive, and compelling. One of the greatest campaigns I've played. And I've played every Halo campaign. Story was deep, it was slightly complicated, but like I said, listen to the dialogue. It's there for a reason.

All you need is to play halo 4 to know whats going on. Youve been reading to many dumb ass mainstream review articles. What's the -blam!-ing point of making sequels if your not going to pick up or tie in elements from the last one? Seriously should every star wars movie be totally different and not tie together or with the previous one? WTF.......

            • Halo 5 is getting good reviews mostly for its multiplayer and basic gameplay improvements. The campaign wasn't terrible, it was just far too lore heavy for its own good. I've read all the books and know all the lore and even I thought it was too much

            • While watching a walkthrough (I do not have an Xbone so I cant get it), I think it was Chief that 'shouted' when a hunter appeared in front of him. No sense of panic, no 'oh shlt' reaction. Nothing.
I do admit that I never had an Xbox, but I have played a good chunk of CE and Reach's story, and all of the Halos Multiplayers.
• Read the books. There is a lot that can not be explained in the game otherwise the game would have gone way over budget. You most likely have to sacrifice something that is already there such as the multiplayer. Most games with single player and a good multiplayer don't have drawn out campaigns because they have to focus on making both to work smoothly. It is far better than the crappy way bungie did destiny because the books actually have that one thing that is called a story. The reason games like dragon age and others like it have such expansive campaigns is because the focus of the game is the story where halo it's focused both on the campaign and multiplayer.

However you do have one good point, surprisingly, and that is the whole Chief vs Locke "greatest hunt of gaming history" plot line was literally nonexistent. Other than that you're an idiot who doesn't like change. Go back to jerking off to Halo 2, see ya.

                  • My theory for the reason Cortana is evil is that 343 is taking a RVB approach to Halo. In RVB, the first ten seasons or so where focused around A.I.s developed by the Freelancer organization, which sent super soldiers on black-ops missions, that were often against the UNSC. These super soldiers were equipped with an A.I. fragment, which powered a unique combat function. Theta powered a bubble shield, Omega powered an active camo unit. But the thing about these A.I.s is that they were each a fragment of the Alpha, the original A.I. Theta was literally the childish side of Alpha, Omega was the embodiment of hate and deceit, Delta was the logic and reason of Alpha. These fragments were created when the Freelancer organization subjected the Alpha to cruel and torturous simulations. Anyways, back to my main point, 343 could be using this fan made mechanic as actual Halo canon. When Halo 4 ended, Cortana was full-on rampant, splitting herself into the Didact's systems, trying to take him out. The whole time, Cortana has drastic "mood swings", going form supporting Chief to hating him, telling him he was doomed to fail against the Didact. Halo 4 then ends with Cortana "dying", and being absorbed into the Domain, which brings us to Halo 5. But the Cortana we meet in Halo 5 could be a fragment, a specific part of Cortana, a part that thought she was better than Humanity. Who knows, the real Cortana could be out there still, locked into the Domain by her fragmented counterpart. But hey, that's just a theory
A Game Theory!!!
• Lol, it's a very in depth series, you need to watch Halo: Nightfall to get a lot of it and then you need to read the books, it explains 90% of the stuff you complained about. If your to lazy to do this, well yeah, it's gonna be confusing.

The cliffhanger at the end and the story being driven by locke and not by chief is bad yes, it is bad but for me its alright because it is the 2nd part of the trilogy so it needs to set the scene for halo 6. It was very frustrating to see Cortana turn against me, She was just in front of me! I could have shot her. The story was meh, but the multi is awesome.

                    • The build up was great, but the ending was trash. I didn't like how 1. Cortana was "cured" of her rampancy from that network. It seemed really forced like it was an excuse to keep her around 2. I didn't like how they presented Cortana being evil and her goals. It seemed like a stereotypical bad guy goal. It was super cliche.

                      • I just want to say that I did like the game, there's just some things that I don't understand as to what happened with this game. Here's my complaints: The trailers for the game were so confusing. Considering that a lot of what was shown in the trailers didn't actually happen in the game. Such as the very first trailer where chief is wearing a cloak and is walking through a desert holding cortana's data chip in his hand. Then there was the trailers where chief was pointing a gun at Locke or Locke was pointing a gun at chief while they are both in front of a statue of chief while the infinity is on fire in the background. It was the same with the hunt the truth audio logs. Chief was apparently doing all these crazy things in hunt the truth and going all rogue (by himself, didn't mention his blue team buddies being with him) and the unsc was trying to find him. Like he had been disobeying orders for months but in the game it seemed like it was just a week or so. And then there's that cutscene of Locke and the Arbiter at the beginning of halo 2 anniversary on the mcc...I assume that is supposed to take place during halo 5. But when? When in halo 5 is that supposed to happen? Who are all those random Spartans in there with them? Where's fireteam osiris? And if that scene does take place during halo 5 then why did the arbiter act surprised that Locke was hunting chief if he was told that Locke was hunting chief during the mission in halo 5 when your on the arbiter's homeworld? I have so many questions about this game. I liked it, I had a lot of fun playing the campaign. I thought the ACTUAL story being presented was really good. I'm just wondering what happened to the story that was promised. Did halo 5 have a destiny situation where it's original story was completely erased halfway through development? Or was the marketing team not on the same page as the writing team for the game's story? Oh and one more thing: osiris was alright, but seriously...give me more missions where I can play as blue team.

                      • I don't know what you people expect. Halo, CoD, Battlefield, and others like them do not exist as a linear story game. They exists for their multiplayer, and that's it. They are all good at PvP in their own ways. Certain people like certain ones
