I am a marvel with ten thousand arms
We all know this saying. This is the description of the Dregs Promise, a new exotic sidearm. But, I bet what some of you didn't know (although some might, I don't know), is that description come from the Fallen Ghost Fragment 2. I found this interesting, and wanted to share it with you guys. Thoughts?
Edit: Wow. We're trending!

When I read the title, I thought of the grimoire card, not the gun. Also it's probably because fallen measure honor in the amount of arms they have.
-
I'm sure that quote is just a metaphor for being extremely glorious or honorable. Why? Fallen are measured in how many arms they have, while the natural limit is two pairs, those pairs mean a lot to Dregs. So now think.of what a Fallen would say after hearing that quote. "That guys a badass." While this may be true, a possibility still lurks in my mind. What if this marvel was a Fallen who went to study the Hive? He could've transformed somehow.
-
It originated from a fallen dreg who came into contact with the darkness, in much the same way as alpha lupi

14 RepliesWith that phrase, I am surprised they did not name it Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is the king of kings, the owner of every legendary weapon known and is often portrayed with multiple arms. But then again, we already have a shader named Gilgamesh so I suppose that wouldn't work lol.
-
2 RepliesI'm assuming it's some kind of fallen-holy quote or something. If you notice the higher in the chain of command you get the more arms they have.
-
4 RepliesFallen heiarchy is based off of arm count. Notice how fallen Captains have 4 instead of a Dreg's 2? They cut the lower arms off when they enlist, and get more put in as they rank up.

I knew I recognized that!

4 RepliesLooks like Manju of the ten thousand hands gets a buddy!

Edited by The Fallen Zyzz: 5/14/2015 9:58:10 AMMaybe it's a saying amongst the Dregs? Or maybe Varicks (or however it is you spell his name) is the Fallen dreg who compiled the list in that card or is otherwise connected to it?
In Fallen society, only Vandals and Captains are permitted the privilege of growing their second pair of arms. Dregs have theirs amputated and docked until they prove themselves. Maybe there is some 'arm envy' between the Fallen classes.
1 ReplyI've never heard the saying outside of destiny before. What does it mean, or is it something they just made up?
-
1 ReplyIggy would say: I worth a million in prizes. .
-
Skolas is a dreg in disguise! Once you "kill" him all the armor flys off showing its a dreg with a million arms
-
I thought that sounded familiar

I realized that too but I'm kinda sad they didn't name it the Baron's Promise to incorporate Cayde-6's run-in with that Fallen Baron and when she threw her shock pistol as an offering to Cayde. Doesn't say if Cayde kept it but he did use it
I also don't get that grimorie card. It's just a list of supplies written down by a dreg
Guardian, Archon Of LightArchon Priest Of House Light - old
That's what caught my eye in the preview That's straight from the Grimore card I think it's fallen lingo, probably saying he is a beast. Because arm numbers are a mark of honor amongst the fallen, and dregs long to have 4 again. -
2 RepliesEdited by FlapjacksNsyrup: 5/14/2015 6:13:53 AMI'll have to re-read that card but I find it kind of ironic since Dregs are Vandals which have had two of their arms removed, therefore only having two arms. Also, as a semi-unrelated side note, this means Variks was most likely a Dreg with the House of Judgement at one point!
-
5 RepliesFallen use the number of arms they have to show rank. It is commonly believed that dregs start off with four arms, but because of their low status, have them removed. So "a marvel with ten thousand arms" is most likely a reference to the multi armed deities typically seen in eastern religions, emphasizing the dregs power.

I realized this immediately and thought it was awesome

6 RepliesEdited by slimdeathstar: 5/14/2015 1:31:11 AMNot about op. I find it odd so many people trash the story line of destiny, and then they say. Have u read the grim card about ______¿? It's such a cool story. Hypocrites r annoying. If u want the full story u have to piece together the puzzle, and be able to read. I'm thankful this game isn't like the order 1886. 500 un skippable cinematic cut scenes would've killed me. Source. Played 1886 for 1 hr. Traded it in. CCL, and not the badger.

I glanced at this and thought it said "I am marvel."

5 Replieswow! nice find brah, and thats pritty swag, and interesting...........
-
1 ReplyI did know that, actually. I'm disappointed that all they did was copy a line from the Grimoire instead of giving us a tiny tidbit of new lore.
-
5 RepliesMy favourite part from that card:
15 human body parts, kept for study, scorn
He also found:
3 glints 7 herealways
I wonder what they are. I wonder whether I will ever know. I have awoken with ten thousand questions.
