Arete Seven = Bungie's real name?

I was bored tonight so I looked to see if Harold Ryan's number was listed anywhere online. I found it (although google told me the number was just Bungie's switchboard, so don't go pranking it if you find it), and the site listed his job as the owner of a company called "Arete Seven." A quick google revealed this page, which says that a Kirkland based company named Arete Seven is doing business as "Bungie." (Use CTRL-F to bring up the "find" window and type "Bungie"). I looked up the word Arete and found that it is Greek for "Noble." So Bungie is the Noble Seven Company? • There's no magical riddle to be solved here. Sorry, friends. Shutting this down. . The Bungie Universe forum is to discuss the stories and worlds created by Bungie, not to speculate on business dealings or dig up phone numbers and contact information.

On the salary page it says Arete Seven, DBA Bungie. Since DBA means "Doing Business As" then that means all together its Arete Seven Doing Business As Bungie LLC.

    •
Bungie is easier to type. Case closed
I cant wait till (or if) "Bungie" releases the reason for naming themselves "Bungie" and not "Arete Seven" and they begin to laugh at us for over-estimating their "Deep, dark secret".

    • Read every post have to say this one is what i found most interesting
Posted by: The Benergizer I didn't read all 10 pages following the OP, but here's one possibility, and it's a real shot in the dark. Companies often have different names from one country to another. Most of the time, the names are easily discernible as being related so as to retain brand recognition. However, in this case Arete Seven may be what Bungie is known as in the Philippines, the place of discussion in the article. An interesting aside: Arete comes from a late Latin word "arista". Seeing the word made me recall the 8 years of Latin I took, and I went and dug out my Latin dictionary to check things out. You can find its modern meaning here: "a sharp-crested ridge in rugged mountains." Coupling that with the number seven, we could intimate that "Arete Seven" refers to the Seven Hills of Rome. Entirely conjecture at this point, but an interesting thought nonetheless.
• One problem with your theory is that it says "Bungie" on the box of every game they've ever created and they have to put their real company name on it rather than a nickname/codename

Don't let this thread die, secrets await that will blow your mind, possibly even the location of LingLing's head (isn't it in one of their fridges???) and A7 sounds much easier

    • The Greek Arete is often translated as "virtue," the word actually means something closer to "being the best you can be," or "reaching your highest human potential." Im wondering if this has something to do with the religious edge of halo. For example: It should be noted that John wrote of the se7en signs that point to Jesus as the son of God. http://halostory.bungie.org/masterchief.html - Check this site out. Some interesting info i dug up on the name. Also, the name Arete Seven is listed on more than one website. If this is Bungie's big secret, what is the deal with it?

    • So, is the OP dead or what (referring to the "penalties" for revealing the cause of the name)? I think bungie is an awesome company name. Arete? That's a type of mountain landform. It occurs when cirques meet, I think.
