I'd like to start by saying that I'm a PS4 gamer. Over the many months of Destiny I've been joyous/proud of the fantastic advertising done on behalf of PlayStation for Destiny, highlighting not only the console's fantastic capabilities for Bungie's newest franchise, but also some pretty kick-ass exclusive content.
Console wars have been, and will be. As long as there is competition, there will be businesses and individuals taking proverbial arms against one another doing all they can to ensure the success of their chosen side. But are there limits that should be respected or certain boundaries enacted to keep things from going 'too far'? As much as I hate to say it, "yes, there should be". Now before I stray too far...
I recently learned that the reason there hasn't been any advertising from the Microsoft side of this battle is because they weren't allowed to. What about free speech, capitalism, free-market economies and the like? Nope. Activision isn't having any of that. Why? Because Sony bought exclusive rights.
And that's the part that bothers me. I like Sony, LOVE Bungie, respect Microsoft, and have been supporting Activision in some form or fashion for over 30 years. But since when should a publisher be able to restrict advertising of a product? Inappropriate or offensive advertising, sure. But a complete blackout 'or else'? Sorry Activision, you've gone too far this time.
I'm all for pre-order bonuses (Vanguard Armory), dealer exclusives (Red Sparrow), DLC (Frontier Ghost Skin), and collectible goodies (Ghost Edition), so long as everyone gets a chance to take part, speak their part, and -most importantly- choose.
I'm too far invested into Destiny to back out now. Plus, I'm fairly certain that Bungie had nothing to do with this limitation. But if this is how future multiplatform releases will be handled, then I'll be taking my business elsewhere. I still think PS4 is King, Bungie is Legend, and Destiny will be Epic. But let the products speak for themselves. Three of the four companies involved here come from a country that stands (and fights) for freedom of speech. Let's keep it that way.

1 commentaireDestiny is available on all consoles. Everyone can choose. I wouldn't bother wasting your time.

Modifié par Klavmanian : 9/15/2014 6:32:50 PMI really like this game and would not suggest backing out, however, I found this to be quite funny... "I'm too far invested into Destiny to back out now." is an example of a sunk cost fallacy.

Why you crying boy? As if MS hasn't done it plenty of times

Its called Licensing... and it protects many many many projects and products... just sayin.

It's funny how you can complain when there was a contract strictly between Microsoft and Bungie for the Halo series. Only way Playstation players could play was to convert to xbox and spend more money. You're lucky you're able to play Destiny. Quit your wining and actually enjoy the game. If you go digging for crap you're going to find it.
-
There's this thing called "business" perhaps you've heard of it?
-
1 commentaireIn business money talks bullshit walks, Microsoft wrapped bungie up for 10 years working on halo's , you think bungie didn't want all gamers to play their game no it just means money for them, bungie at one time owned halo but Microsoft pull up in a money truck and bought it, I don't see how's that any different
-
I would offer this...wait...did that just come from the moon?..anyway, I think Microsoft will be fine. PS4 doesn't have an FPS that can sell its console like Halo can for Xbox. They need this, and paid good money for it, and it is not an illegal practice to have temporary control of the marketplace.

Welcome to corporate america.

*shrugs* I mean...it's kind of idiotic, and i giggled at the only on playstation remarks that were in the commercials. Ps4 gets more stuff. Xbox gets a better controller. *shrugs* honestly if I had an Xbox I would play it on that, but I don't.

Shame on who? And for what? LOL
-
I agree with you mostly but 1 major error. Free speech? Not applicable the free speech clause is **ONLY** about our government not being able to stop you from saying anything or gathering except in the shouting Fire in crowded theatre, free speech has nothing to do with people to people or company to people. Just had to make that correction. Other than that have a great day and enjoy Destiny when finally released

Nice life story buddy.

It goes both ways. Have you ever seen a CoD commercial linked to PS4? No, because Xbox has an exclusivity deal where they get to market it and get the DLCs before PS4. How about the NFL exclusivity deal microsoft has? Freedom of speech doesn't relate to this at all as any company has the rights to make partnerships with any other company they want to. Bungie is just as much apart of the deal as Sony is since they both agreed to it. Think about the next time you're at a super market and notice all the highly marketed cereals all at eye level, those cereal companies made an agreement for those positions with the super markets. Sure the super market can sell other cereals, but they got to be basically on the floor. I know that's a strange analogy but it's basically the same thing. Sony made the deal and they're "at eye level" where bungie can still sell xbox products, they belong on the floor lol.

Everyone can play it shhh.

Modifié par iMoonchildi : 9/8/2014 2:34:03 AMTrue it's a shame could be looked at as pay back for halo maybe. Or as we've seen a marketing strategy to sell more playstation consoles, content, accessories ect.

i just want to say that i semi agree with this guy. Like him with PS4 i am with XOne, I am going to take his statement one step further. There are diehard consumers out there. whether it is Sony, Microsoft, Android, Apple, Activison, Ubisoft, (you get the point). Destiny is being released as we all know on 4 consoles. To me there should be no bonuses given or restrictions made. we buy the console because its what we want.....which in and of itself gives restrictions. The PS4 and XOne are as similar as Apple PCs are to Windows. we buy or build the pc we want based on our preferences....same for our consoles. Now i know programming games for Apple vs Windows is different....not all games are available for both. but the ones that are do not have special bonuses like has been done with Destiny. Give the same bonuses and restrictions to all platforms for this game and let the console war create a legend of its own (see what i did there :-P)

It's because of arguments like these that I feel like everyone that isn't is equivalent to the "man-hater" role in the conversing.
-
MS does the same thing with CoD
-
Your argument and use of freedom of speech doesn't apply. If a company signs a contract with another company they have to follow those terms. Microsoft didn't have to sign an agreement with Activision that forbade then from advertising. Think this through, it's business and no one I'd infringing on free speech. NDA's are used all the time and perfectly legal.
-
Have you not see a big ole picture on the 360/One for Destiny? That's advertising.
-
1 commentaireOkay this is a valid and well written argument but I just want to point out that Microsoft is just as guilty of buying exclusive rights to games and the advertising to it. Sony forked up the money this time and Microsoft didn't. There is more going on behind the scenes, business wise, between Bungie, Sony, and Microsoft than any of us consumer level people will ever know. Maybe Bungie and/or Microsoft still have hurt feelings over Halo? Maybe Sony just was determined to one up Microsoft on this game so they dolled out a bigger chunk of money that Microsoft felt was viable here? The point is, all these questions are speculation and will remain just that, speculation. Sony will win some battles and Microsoft will win some battles, that's the ONLY part that wont be speculation. I understand consumer loyalty to platform manufacturers is and will always be a factor, and i respect that. In fact i wish PS4 and xbox players could game together but that most likely wont ever happen. Regardless if cross brand platform gaming ever does happen or not, the simple end to this is that Destiny is to be played and enjoyed by everyone Go forth and enjoy the game everyone. We have our own battles to win starting on Sept. 9th :)
