WARNING - This article isn't very nice, it doesn't contain many details or images or anything along those lines but it does say what happened. I'm sure the title is bad enough, but if you feel that you will be distressed by reading it - Don't. Just close the tab and carry on browsing.
Now, my first reaction was one of blood boiling rage and I'm sure yours will be similarly outraged. Please read the article before commenting, It's not long and I will BOLD the important bit.
A woman who killed her pet kitten by cooking it in a microwave because she thought it had attacked her goldfish has been jailed for 14 weeks.
Laura Cunliffe, 23, of Hoyland, near Barnsley, put black-and-white Mowgli into the microwave and turned it on for five minutes.
She was jailed at Barnsley Magistrates' Court after admitting causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
District Judge John Foster said it was an "act of utterly horrendous cruelty".
The court heard Cunliffe put the kitten into the microwave and switched it on but took the animal out about a minute later when she realised what she had done. The kitten died later.
'Suffered terribly'
Her solicitor, Alan Greaves, said Cunliffe had longstanding problems with psychotic depression and had been sectioned under the Mental Health Act 20 times.
As she was sentenced a family member shouted from the public gallery: "She doesn't know what's happening - she hasn't a clue."
Another shouted: "This is a failure of medical services, judge."
Mr Foster told the defendant: "This was an act of utterly horrendous cruelty on your part on an animal that, as far as I could see, had come to trust you and rely on you."
Cunliffe was banned from keeping animals for life and was told she cannot apply to have this ban reviewed for five years.
An RSPCA spokeswoman said: "This was such a sad case and clearly this poor kitten would have suffered terribly over a prolonged period of time.
"Sentencing is a matter for the courts but we hope this means other animals will not have to suffer in the future in this way."
So again, the woman in question was a psychotic depressive who'd been sectioned 20 times. That's a seriously impressive number considering she is only 23. This woman is clearly ill, not just depressed but on a whole new level of ill.
The questions that come to mind are-
-Was she actually being looked after properly by the Mental Health Professionals?
-Who in the name of all that is -blam!-ing stupid let her own a kitten?
-Why is the judge sending her to jail rather than a Psychiatric Hospital?
Now do bear in mind, animal cruelty is something I would punish with a 12 gauge but at the same time, you can't and shouldn't punish someone who is not compus mentis with jail time.
Anyway, thoughts?
If you make a cat pun, you are a bad person and you should feel bad. *slaps*

I'm more mad at her family If she's mentally ill, why would they let her keep animals? Furthermore, they tried to blame it on the medical system! That makes me want to punch them That being said, I feel that this was a just punishment and I shall now leave very disturbed

4 commentairesJust -blam!-ing execute her already.

2 commentairesA family member shouting "she doesn't know what's happening" does not automatically make it a fact. She admitted to wanting to punish the cat and she punished the cat by putting it into a microwave. If you want to achieve a goal and you perform an action that directly leads to that goal, you are aware of your actions and their consequences. And she was aware enough to stop the microsave, albeit too late, after a minute. So no, I don't accept, solely on this article alone, that she was unaware of her actions.

4 commentairesI'm sorry, call me cruel all you like. But I hate when people want to hide behind a mental illness and think it's ok. Does the woman know what a microwave is? Yes If she knows what the microwave is, then she automatically knows she isn't doing something right, because she knows that a microwave is used to cook food. If she knows that she is doing something wrong, then she should go to jail. Get help for her illness in jail, but she still has to go to jail and not a institution. I hate people that harm animals for no reason.

5 commentairesModifié par Inyaccurate : 3/15/2014 3:14:32 AMThis whole case is -blam!-ed. A kitten died via microwave, a mentally ill woman is being sent to jail instead of some place where she can be helped, and the internet is getting pissed at her for something she most likely can't control very well.

3 commentairesIm so depressed now. Thats awful.

3 commentairesAnd the family blames the medical community... I'd say this is typical projection of responsibility onto something else, but then again, I don't really know the action that were taken by whoever was treating her.

1 commentaireThis thread is very tempting.

1 commentaireOne question: are you with PETA? I mean it is pretty -blam!-ed up that she stuck her cat in the damn microwave, but she's ill and depressive and Shouldn't be jailed for that long.

>Obviously mentally ill woman kills an animal >The Internet is in an uproar >Someone commits a senseless murder >Literally no one gives a shit

3 commentaires
Disclaimer: I do acknowledge that killing kittens is bad, and this case is tragic. I didn't think it needed saying again, but I know someone might mistake my comment as indifference.
What I'm curious about is why certain people are reacting vehemently to this case in particular. I'm sure I don't see these kind of comments regarding regular murders. Are kittens worth more than people? Ugh, I don't even know if I want to have that discussion right now.

1 commentaireShe shouldn't be jailed, but put into a psychiatric hospital like you said.
