I always hide my power level in public
1. Hide Your Power Level
What (actual) geeks have to do in situations where their nerd knowledge and/or abilities (with computers, video games, internet, et cetera) would come in handy, but using them would reveal to everyone that they are a geek. The phrase itself is taken from Dragon Ball Z. Also extends to anime fans who hide their interest to avoid being labeled as a weeaboo, or weeaboos in a social setting who actually manage to shut the -blam!- up for once.
1. They had a video game tournament at my college last week that even included Starcraft. Despite how well I know I would have done, I chose to hide my power level in order to keep up appearances. Hide your power level.
2. I was walking through town with friends when we happened upon what appeared to be a cosplayer gathering. Though I could name every character, when my buddy asked what the shit those guys were doing, I hid my power level and told him I had no idea.
I control my power level based on the power level of the plebs around me. If they have high power levels, I will moderate mine accordingly. I tend to only hang around girls if they have a fairly high power level, because if they have a low power level, then I struggle to hide mine and hte spaghetti starts falling out of my pockets.

Fairly well hidden. I mean, I talk about video games ect with people I know play them, but equally I try not to flaunt my hidden nerd, and underplay it as much as possible. For instance, no one knows I go on a video game forum. And they never will. << >>

Nope I have a lot of useless knowledge and everyone knows it.

I am the geek they need, but not the one they deserve. (I only 'hide' it at school.)

1 commentaireModifié par Big Boss : 12/26/2013 3:20:50 AMIf someone starts spouting about how good they are at Pokemon because they have a lvl 100 Charizard, I put them in their place. It's happened a fair few times. Also somebody said that they liked Power Rangers so I asked them which season, and they said one of the newer (bad) ones. Let's just say it didn't end well. People talking about how much they love the Star Wars prequels in my class. Well...

4 commentairesThe need to correct someone when they state incorrect things is extremely intense. But I hold i off because I know if I did, I'd look like an asshat, and be an asshat for ruining someone's fun. For instance, a few nights ago on ME3, there were two guys talking as they did co-op with me and some other random. And I could tell right away that these were the kind of people that don't care for the story or lore whatsoever and where just here the multiplayer. And, they were having a fun time. But, the amount of errors and wrong statements that were said in that match had me sooooo god damn tempted to plug that mic in correct all that shit. But I kept it cool and had some fun by impressing them with the Collector adept and one of the rarer weapons, and actually helping them up when they were being silly and got themselves killed.

My power level is contained by my wang, since its transdimensional, the only time you can read it is when my wang heralds cthulhu, and by then, power levels wont matter.

I'm playing a game with a friend of mine. It's called quizduell (it's an app) and you have to choose categories and sometimes she picks games. Most of the time i pick the wrong answer on purpose... I really want to give her the D

Yes, but not in the dumbass way that you're talking about. I have a sweet Transformers: The Movie shirt that's bagged me a few compliments.

2 commentairesHave to. The country bumbkins that I know, work with, and sometimes have to call boss. You have no idea. Shit, I even tried talking some Bungie shit the other day to the wife and got nothing but eye rolls, blank stares, and redircted to shopping conversations. Watching people try to play a simple trivia game today was excruciating. I hide my power to the extreme. I suppose that's one reason I still come here to b.net, to try to hold on to a little piece of myself.

Im Brolys son, so i find it hard to hide my immense aura.

I've no need of such things...

Now we just need internet tests that let us know our power levels.

eh, im into gaming as a social thing, but once a friend starts talking DoTA I just go hardcore bully on them and mess around with em. They all don't care, i mean im a music nerd, so we all get along just fine in the end. Except for my college buddies, I talk music with them all the time, nerd out and go crazy bc that shit is fun.

I just got this on a shirt. I'll be wearing it. Don't even care.

Lol I would if I had a power level. :3 guys I don't know about you but I'm here because of halo and maybe one or two online friends here. I don't use the rest of the Internet. Never watched anime either, and I'm terrible with computers. Why would those be useful btw?
-
Yes. But it also depends in the situation.
-
Of course.

2 commentairesI play dumb when people ask me what LARPing is even though I have a huge desire and fascination with it. I never talk about Star Wars, Halo, or Fallout because my extended universe knowledge ends up spilling out and I looking like a massive no-life to everyone. I almost cried when a friend of mine called Ganondorf a Goron, but I held my tongue. I also don't let anyone in my room because of the sheer amount of Star Wars and Halo paraphernalia. They might overload on my geekiness.

Modifié par SweesesPieces : 12/26/2013 5:08:34 AMI have found my life quite enjoyable by not "hiding the power level". That does not mean going around shouting I enjoy this or that to the world. It just means that if what I enjoy can be brought up and discussed with some relevancy to the topic at hand I'll probably mention it. This, of course, does not apply to a professional, workplace environment, but I feel as if one should be comfortable with their peers when it comes to things they enjoy.
