Activity timers should exist only as a way to offer a bonus score for completing content under a certain time, not as a hard fail condition.
The issues are well-documented at this point:
- Timers are often too short to realistically complete certain missions.
- When the timer runs out, all revives reset to zero, even if the team is still pushing forward.
- Solo players attempting pinnacle or fireteam activities are unfairly punished by an arbitrary countdown rather than their actual performance.
It’s clear that many timers are not being thoroughly playtested before going live. The result is frustratingly short windows that frequently end in failure... not because of player skill or effort, but because of the clock. That means wasted time for players who otherwise could have succeeded.
This cycle is going to continue every time a new activity is added to the Portal, which is why I really recommend removing the time factor or revising the system to avoid these issues.
A better system would be to keep timers only as optional bonuses, not fail states. Let players finish activities at their own pace, and reward faster completions with score instead of cutting them off entirely.

It's complete BS! GM Beneath the Necropolis and Presage have a 15 mins timer to get an A score. We paid for this recycled content twice so let me play it the way I want and use what I want.

Modifié par Perera-74 : 9/12/2025 8:50:25 PMBrilliant post. Agree on all the points you raise. It's another lazy, made-up, not fit for purpose, arbitrary mechanic that serves no-one in particular. Also agree it should be an optional customisation but only for certain activities. And absofuknlutely YES if there's anything Edge of Fate has proven to me is that no-one at Bungie really plays this game. They will hate me for saying that but it's true - at least to the level that WE play this game.
-
no kidding thoes timers are totally bull crap and unrealistic!!!! get your head outta you bums bungo and listin to the payer base because at this rate not gonna give anymore money on anymore expansions if this keeps up and move on to another game away from bungo
-
Timers are fine IF they're fair times. Why on gods earth is whisper GM now 10 mins, was 45 last month. Inverted spite 15 mins.waaaaay too short
-
Timers were generally long enough before last update, now way too short; seems like Bungie were watching YouTube speed runners, not looking at statistics of completion times. Timer (for rewards) should be calculated from number in fireteam; it should be longer for solo players.
-
I completely agree with you and have felt this way. Once you get to gm difficulty, it's ridiculous. Most of the time, running match made fireteam opps fails, and all of your time is wasted. Bungie doesn't care someone has a hard on for timers. Everything at gm has a timer that takes away all of your revives once it runs out, and forget running anything but solo opps by yourself unless your a godly player because most activities dont hve a long enough timer. Bungie if your are listening how about you remove the timers and let them be something we can choose to add like matchgame or just give us a bonus for finishing before it runs out, this way we dont waste time. I have wasted so much time running things only to have the timer runs out and we end up wiping. Once one person goes down its usually the end of your run because the rest ha e a hrder time and let's be honest most player aren't going to solo the boss on a gm. Again let us choose it or let it be just for. Bonus. I think that's fair to everyone
-
Basically till Tuesday this game is unplayable as the timers are really low and once it runs out you have no lives left. Rather than add it in this week's update about not losing lives when timer runs out bingo decided we'll implement that on the next weeks update.
-
1 commentaireFor real, though. Playing the Proving Grounds, for example, on GM difficulty is more than do-able, but it’s the damn timer that ended up screwing over me and my gf when we tried playing it. Otherwise, we were making it through with very few deaths. We were just playing carefully, as you should in a difficulty where you’re like -30 or whatever, and we got punished for it.
-
I used to enjoy chill solo pinnacle missions. Not anymore .
-
Oh the timers are being tested, it's just that the ones that they are having do the testing are hardcore sweats and Bungie is using these players as the standard and if it's too easy for them then Bungie decides to make things harder.
-
1 commentaireTimers are obviously set for the top 1% speedrunners in mind. If they don't do that, those guys get easy A or A+ from the time bonus. Meanwhile, the good but not as good and average players are getting shafted

1 commentaireI don't know who in blazes decided the Pinnacle Ops timers for Encore, and especially AVALON, were to be so short to begin with. AVALON's is so short that, when I initially played through it, I thought that maybe they stopped the activity at the Hydra boss. It's not just a 15% bonus, though; it's the fact that you lose all revives once the threshold for bonus time runs out. I know they said they're planning to remove that in Renegades, but that's a long while to wait. I suspect two things: 1. They used the high-end for activity completions to base the bonus timers around, which means the timers for those activities are with speed-runners in mind. In this case, Encore went from cozy to require absolutely optimal gameplay to get the bonus timer. 2. Someone in charge of game development believes that the bonus timer was too generous previously, and believes that the 15% bonus has to be "earned", so they greatly decreased the bonus timer for certain activities so that only players who optimize and can speed-run these activities can get the bonus, whereas everyone else will have to add on more modifiers to guarantee A Rank, and potentially deal with the loss of revives when they go over. However, the timer for the Caldera, famously the fastest activity you can complete, is still the same at 10 minutes. I remember their plans to reduce the power level of rewards from Solo Ops were because they were deemed "too rewarding" for how short they were. With this, it feels like saying a problem exists where it doesn't, and then going out of your way to make a mess of things and create the problem, so that you can use it as justification for doing what you said should be done when there wasn't a problem. In this case, they said there was a problem with Solo Ops and walked back their planned changes when players protested. Come Ash and Iron, they've effectively made it a lot harder to get the 15% bonus in certain Pinnacle Ops, which means more people will be less incentivized to play longer activities and instead favor shorter ones, especially when you pair that with the lost revives when you go over the time limit. Since they've done that, whether intentionally or not, they can go back to the problem they created and say that it actually was the problem they said it was, and go forward with the changes they initially planned. Once again, it is Tall Poppy management, and it feels like they cut off the heads of the rest of the poppies around the tall one to make it seem more like a problem.

Yeah, it's all a bit of a buggers muddle... different people working on different things without any communication (I would assume). The thing is, it does get to the point of 'why bother' doing those modes... just pick another mode (which bungie will eventually nerf because 'they're listening') I thought the presage timer would be score bonus, so I was surprised to be sent to orbit... what's odd is that the legacy expert timer is 30 minutes and personally speaking, pretty tight to solo. So a gm version with champs and banes and extra mods will have extra time, righr??? The current version is around half the time and the buffed version will still be significantly shorter... It makes no sense vs the original times, or in comparison to other exotic missions.
-
they need to revert the times and lives. this is a 100% red line for me as i play with my senior father and neither of us are speed runners with top optimized gear. now they have made it impossible to do complete a lot of portal activities its pointless playing. Before these portal changes i was considering the Renegades expansion.
-
I was running Starcrossed solo before this update. Now I get about half way through and time runs out. Really ruined it.
-
I have been saying this all along, timers do not make an activity engaging. When has anyone ever said, "I want this activity on a timer so I can be booted to orbit'? Never! The whole scoring thing and timers need to go, none of it is working or is making the game more engaging! It says I will get a B grade, beet the timer get a C grade with zero explanation as to why.

I hate having to sprint through everything in this game now. It sucks
-
As dumb as a coin operated ghost ( revive tokens) and just another stupid part of d2 that adds nothing to the game but will never be removed.
-
3 commentairesJust tried to do a master presage with 15mins. I think the mission is bugged. Kept respawning and killing us over and over after the timer expired.
-
Even running bugged gear and having infinite spammable super grades still finished a minute over on a few activities The timers are useless and are in no way close to being realistic
-
A good compromise would be when the timer runs out you can no longer collect revives but you dont loose the ones you currently have

2 commentairesModifié par indo : 9/12/2025 9:38:39 PMThe new Pinnacle Ops Dungeons… esrimation 10-15 minutes for the whole dungeons? I wanna see Bungie do it in their stream. Just 3 people that work at Bungie. They can select their best players. And I mean getting A-rank on Grandmaster or higher.
-
1 commentaireAgreed. They have become entirely too short once you have to do things on GM and up. Even master is sometimes a struggle to meet the short timer on some activities. GM Nightfalls used to have a 45 min timer. Now it's cut in half for those strikes like Liminality, Inverted Spire and other long activities. It's become too impossible for anyone except the top 1% of players to meet timers on GM and higher. Losing all revives after 25 minutes of doing stuff 2x contest mode difficulty is just too punishing for what little you get out of it.
-
We learned this lesson in D2 vanilla when the was timers on original nightfalls. The fail the time then orbit was met with full community backlash. It doesn’t matter how many times you implement a broken mechanic it stays a broken mechanic. It feels like a new hirer or recently promoted managers “new idea” having 0 context that the community rejects this modification at every attempt.
-
1 commentaireIt's wild to me that when D2 launched everythin had timers, and the majority of players hated it so much that they got rid of them...only to bring them back in abundance again...
