Checkmate Shouldn’t Ever Be Quickplay
To start - I like checkmate as its own playlist (my friends don’t). I think CM could work for comp/trials. Quickplay? Nope. You’ve essentially taken all the fun things about Destiny PvP and erased them. Ability builds are useless now, which means builds are shifting to neutral game perks/exotics.
Were abilities a little strong before? Sure, but it’s Quickplay. It’s fun. It’s a space magic shooter game, but you’ve taken away the magic part. Now it’s just a space team-shot simulator (yawn) overrun by Thorn noises.
Sadly, my friends and I (all PvP mains) are gonna sit D2 out for a while, specifically due to this new Checkmate Quickplay. Our biggest dilemma is finding another game to play. D2 was THE GAME for us - years and years of D2. Hundreds of dollars, thousands of hours. Not sure where to go now, but we’re awaiting the return of fun PvP.
PS - Video games should be fun. Please bring back some other fun game modes, like CTF, King of the Hill, etc. Scorched and Mayhem are k/d destroying dumpster fires.
PSS - Please start including useful stats at the end of crucible games. Kills, assists, precision, supers, melee kills, grenade kills, kd, kad, etc. Show us who won big medals and how many. You have the data, just show it on the screen. An easy suggestion, but people would appreciate it.

I agree, I actually like checkmate as a selectable option. It's fun not being run into multiple supers and shotgun runners every second of a match. Really let's guns that are not used as much to shine. But that being said I still like regular control more and would like it back. Actually that being said can team slayer just come back as a regular activity instead of rift?

Low skill players [i]don’t[/i] kill high skill players with most abilities. 1. Low skill players don’t often use their abilities. They can barely run and shoot, let alone remember they have abilities. 2. Low skill players, even if they use their abilities, rarely do so on cooldown. They aren’t spamming anything. 3. Low skill players, even if they use their abilities, rarely do so effectively. They’ll toss their grenades into the ether and are easy pickings when they use [i]any[/i] roaming super. Any sufficiently skilled player can outplay a lesser player “spamming” abilities. The notion that a low skill player routinely kills a high skill player with abilities is laughable.

PVP players like me have been stating this over and over again. CBMM+Clash= QuickPlay= Fun Control? Afuera! CheckMate? Afuera! Hybrid Survival? Afuera! yall get the picture.

Also why has this game never had map voting while the lobby is filling up. Not a hard implementation and I’m sure a lot of people would like this feature.

I wouldnt classify myself as a PvP main, but I tend to play a lot of PvP and tend to play off-META. I really dont like CM, for all the reasons you mentioned. Sandbox more than ability change, but its not fun for me because I cant play the way that I want to play using the weapons that I want to use. The mod system and game design already shoehorns you into certain weapons depending on your subclass element, and now this just restricts it further... Im sitting out for a while, and just play gambit which I havent touched in a few seasons.

Tried one game, and I absolutely hate it. Abilities are useless, and you pretty much have to use a handcannon, or you lose. Screw that.

I have near 400,000 pvp kills in destiny 2. Joe blackburn said in a video 2 days ago that they want to deliver for pvp players. Then the season launches and they remove a staple from the series, a core mode dude- 10 years old. A decade. None of my clan or friend list like it either. Further to this they removed rift in comp and added an abomination of a mode that spawns heavy every 60 seconds and is like a worse version of what we had almost 5 years ago. Countdown rush is as far from competitive as you can be. It should have zero heavy ammo. It shouldnt have respawns. It shouldnt even be in the game if im being real. Talk about an identity crisis. They take a mode that is akin to csgo and search and destroy. It was fairly sweaty with no rez and an obj. They make heavy ammo spawn more, introduce respawns…. IN COMP. Meanwhile in QP you have 2 nades a match. The pvp team are lost. Its simple: QP: 6v6 control with outlier matchmaking. Comp: survival 3v3 Take your sparrow control and meme modes and throw them into a 60 minute rotator like other games have done for years. And dont get me started on the lacklustre pve content we have been force fed since shadowkeep. If they dont change things massively, destiny is going to die sooner than later, honestly. What worries me is the people who took out control 6v6 for checkmate are still making decisions for the short future this game has left

I don't understand why some people are acting like the ttk of weapons couldn't be what it normally is in the sandbox...just with slower ability and special upkeep. The game doesn't HAVE to have awful slow ttk values just to make the other 2 changes relevant. It's so ridiculous to read. "Now ability spammers have to actually aim," ok well the old ttk would've worked no problem...like people wanted. I never saw anybody ask for the game to KILL SLOWER, while everything else got slowed as well. Not to mention movement is now too fast to keep up...so we can add that to the chopping block too, right?

I am in the same boat. I wanted to play PvP and was surprised I couldn’t just play control. I liked Checkmate in its first iteration but not sure on the rebalances - regardless I never liked it as a straight up replacement, just as an alternative. Very confusing move.

The game is broken, now even more than before. Losing players does not seem to hurt bungo. As long you buy their game and expantions, they don't care.

Effing this. 100% agree. When I saw what they were doing to PvP, I was like.... how can they be THIS stupid? Like this is Blizzard level stupid. I love PvP, though my clan hates it. However, with how it's set up now, no way. I am also wondering what exactly I am going to play. PvE only keeps me entertained so long. Diablo 4 is a disaster (hence the Blizzard comment), Fallout 76 I've been playing since when it was trash and I'm bored of that, only so much Borderlands 3 I can play. And what's the common thread between them? No (good) PvP. Guess that leaves me with Smite as my main game.... Destiny's was satisfying BECAUSE OF ABILITIES. Otherwise, it just feels like CoD with cooler guns. Sure, there's nothing wrong with having a playlist that focuses on gunplay more, but leave regular crucible alone. I said this in another post, but I'll say it again. There is nothing wrong with innovation and trying new things. However, innovation can not come at the cost of core game play/modes. Control, Clash and Rumble should be staples around 100% of the time with nothing special added to them. Any modifiers should put those modes into a separate list, so the masochists that do want to play them can do so.

Im doing just fine in this mode, 30+ kills per game. Pvp has never felt easier since most of you suck at using primaries. My K.D is about to sky rocket ngl 😂
