your xbox should have a network test somewhere in the settings menu. if you have a computer/tablet/phone connected to the same hotspot you could try a simple speedtest.net to start. on a side note, one thing that can help, even with a hotspot is to make sure no one else is connected to the same hotspot you are while playing. they would be stealing valuable bandwidth.
