It’s an [i]assumption[/i] that the Witness left it for us to be a deception. It’s not fact. The Gardner isn’t from the Witness, that’s been around since D1 and reiterated in BL lore. The Winnower is the new addition. Should be noted, the star eyed wolf was reaching out to people as far back as the Golden Age and with Up to present with Crow. In that convo, the wolf mentions the other side reaching out and how it would only do it to the living. And if it took a god to make light and control who wields its, then it goes without saying the darkness would need to be similar And the idea that Unveiling is some enticement to join the Witness doesn’t add up. Because the Winnower doesn’t ask you to follow the Witness, it actually denounces him. It’s also ultimately pointless. At no time does the Witness attempt to capitalize on this supposed deception. It didn’t reach out to ask anyone to join. It came, kicked -blam!-, and left. So what was the point? Some master manipulation plan that gets thrown out because it’s utterly useless? Mkay?
