You should become a comparativist. Well written, and this is close to how I interpret the lore.
I studied languages, writing, rhetoric, and logic in college. I am a comparativist.
The story of Destiny is the tragedy of the Sovs which pulls heavily and adapts Greek myth. The Witness is Cronus... Mara is Artemis, Uldren is Apollo... but the key figure is their mother Osana... she's the evil proxy for Leto.
The inflection point you reference when the singularity happened... it wasn't an accident, it was apart of the Witness's plan to take control of existence. There is this balance that MUST be maintained, but like Cronus the Witness was not satisfied with his place of power. So the Witness's plan was to create a facade that simulated balance but was actually empowering the Witness. This IS "The Tribute".
Choices were made AND not made in that moment pending the collapse. Mara rejected divinity to save her people, made them essentially immortal... however, although that is the sympathetic interpretation, it could be no different than Clovis's ambitions. And I think that's right. In fact, I believe Mara knew immediately after that it was a bad decision, that's why the REAL Mara tried to correct it. Uldren didn't make a choice... and so now he IS the Crow... and has been a lost soul desperately trying to reclaim that moment, where his indifference doomed him... codependently attached to his mother. Then Osana... Osana chose to abandon her family and people to become a god... Osana became a disciple. Osana is Leto... is Savathun and like her husband Zues will kill the Witness/Cronus in an effort to take over.
This what we have been constantly warned about too. Power AS puppets. Puppets for the Tribute to mantain the Witnesses grand facade. Absolute power without cost... is a farce. The disciples are slaves. The Light is a lie.
And Maya knew it before it existed. She's the personification of Gaia. She chose sacrifice for the POSSIBILITY of saving the universe, saving life in the Universe. That's was the 'right' choice. And from her birthed the echo program aka The Cloud Arks, Nenomuna was one of them. She created the Exo... I'll get to that 😉. And she created Cloudstriders.
She sacrificed her life for the Universe. She created a god to kill gods. And he was the 1st Exo. There's a mural on Nenomuna that shows what I'm saying, btw. In addition, I'm drawing from some of the lore referenced by the OP and in-game narratives.
Cayde Alpha was the 1st Exo. Before Cayde was made an Exo he was the number 1 bad guy in the Universe outside of the Witness... I don't mean that hyperbolically. He was Clovis's #1 assassin and spy, his #2 and personal bodyguard. He worked for Calus. He was sent by Clovis to keep tabs on Maya... and kill her should Clovis give the order. And he did...
But it was too late. Cayde had never met anyone like Maya before, someone who intentionally prioritized the needs of others over personal self interest and ambition. He fell in love with her. And so when Maya saw the collapse at our doorstep, she used Cayde... Cayde volunteered to become the God Killer, the 1st Exo. Cayde was always going to die... and he knew it. He chose love over power. And he IS the phoenix of prophecy. Courtesy of Clovis Bray who helped us and doesn't even know it.
Remember how Jaba basically kept Han as a backup after he captured him. Same thing kinda... Clovis has a backup version of Cayde Alpha (body) and the Vex network has a backup of his mind. That's how he got stuck in the Vex Network, btw. Cayde never trusted the Vanguard or us... he didn't join us, he was infiltrating the Mothmen of a disciple of the Witness... to get to Savathun, and in turn kill the Witness.
The story of Destiny is about choices and consequences, choose virtue and it might cost you everything. But... choose power, and become a slave to it. The Sovs chose power... Osana chose power and became God Queen of the worms. Calus chose power for glittering jeweled goblets that are cursed to be empty, always thirsty. We chose power... what will it cost us?

...Excuse me? Let me ask: are you capable of looking at the Destiny 2 story without trying to weave some baseless comparative allegory? Rather, how in the world did you ever read Destiny's lore, and somehow come up with the above? Osana Sov stayed in the Distributary. She chose to stay when Mara and Uldren left, despite Mara wanting her to come. Maya Sundaresh did not create the Exos, they were Clovis Bray's creation. Cayde was not the "first Exo", nor was he some "phoenix" created by Maya Sundaresh. Nothing you have written here resembles the story of Destiny. It's...pure fan-fiction of the worst quality.

Some of my positing is an extension, a theory same as yours. Boy are you going to be surprised, did you play the campaign? Clovis employed the mother of all exos. We already have lore on that distinction. Right before launch someone argued that she didn't create the cloudstriders either... cleary she did now. Did you see the murals? After fighting alongside Caital... before the end? It literally paints a picture of the theory I've thought since the beginning of D1. Everything I said happened... actually happened whether you're willing to acknowledge it or not. From your developed high school research paper I didn't think you'd be so close minded. Everything I said is going to happen... of course I don't know. If I were to bet, Cayde won't return... but it is suspicious that were still getting Cayde related stuff... that only further bolsters my ideas. This story is going through Maya... and whomever the God of Light is... is connected to both Maya and Cayde. Now Osana, if you actually read any of the lore... you should know there is lore that places her on the colony ship with Mara and Uldren as the singularity occurred? It talked about Uldren playing possum to the elite soldiers in training to discover their weaknesses. More about her that substantiates my theory was during the Ager's Sceptor quest and corresponding lore. And though it has been not been confirmed that Osana aka Sathona became Savathun by accepting the gift from the Witness... she disappeared after the singularity event so she's a prime candidate. Uldren has had multiple names too. Uldren specifically says that their mother abandoned their family and their people for her personal ambition. You know... I mean obviously you don't, I tried to be complimentary and constructive. My ideas are a creative outlet for a game's narrative that is a hobby of mine. Still, I run into this issue where that somehow offends the sensitive egos of magnanimous blowharts that rarely have any substance and immediately resort to tired passive aggressive insults. It's disappointing. Hard to find anyone on these forums that isn't a narrow minded "authority". Still, I want to reiterate, that I enjoyed your original post. Osana Sov never left the Distributary to return to the main universe with Uldren and Mara, yet your entire post is predicated on her being Savathun. SAVATHUN. Who was born billions of years ago. Your theory has not been confirmed [b]because it is impossible[/b]. But, Maya Sundaresh was not the creator of the Cloud Striders.
