Fellow boomers: we've got 2 days left to enjoy the online matchmaking of Bungie's magnum opus in its original incarnation before it's gone forever. Grab your mics, grab your copy of Halo 3 (ODST Mythic disc preferred), and an Xbox 360/Xbox One/Series X, and boot that -blam!- up - I'll be in Social Slayer until the cows come home.
Make sure you change your voice chat settings to let you hear the enemy team in proximity as well as your own team, I was in a 10 player partied-up lobby for several hours last night and almost all of us had mics, it was amazing. This -blam!- just doesn't happen in modern games anymore.

I have a bit of a story I'd like to share, but if you don't care feel free to move on.
Halo: 3 Xbox 360... I'm going to miss this game so much. It was the first Xbox 360 I played offline and online. I instantly fell in love with this game. I used to rush home from school and discuss with my friends what we could play or build in forge. Not only that, but I used to spend time during my school breaks drawing up plans for new Infection maps. Move forward a few years, I started to get more involved in the Halo community by posting on Bungie.net and various other community sites such as HaloCharts.com. I met a lot of awesome and funny folks on the Bungie.net forums and a lot of great times were had. I can remember when certain individuals would get up to no good just to piss off the mods (EG: pyramid quotes and meatspin links). I also remember the laughs we used to share with certain Bungie employees who were very active on the forums. Another memory I hold tight is all 27,000 games I played of Halo 3. Most of those games were in Rumble Pit (social solo playlist) and Double Exp weekends. During my many games of Rumble Pit, I met an awesome individual who went by the name of 'ChimpHomage'. It was only recently that I found out from one of his in real life friends that he sadly passed away at the young age of 30. Though I did not know Chimp in real life, it was still devastating news. He loved Halo 3 social playlists just as much as myself and didn't care if he lost or won. It upsets me that I'm unable to spend the final hours of Halo 3 with ChimpHomage, but I know that he is still gaming in heaven. He is an awesome individual. Thank you for creating such awesome games, Bungie. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have met ChimpHomage and all the awesome members of the community and your work force.
-
Had some fun in one of phoenix's maps.

Modifié par SLy : 1/13/2022 5:55:53 AM
This is it, huh? I never thought the day would come. I never thought I'd look back on a game that was most of my childhood even if I didn't have xbox live for most of its lifespan and watch it die. The whole 360 line too. I played tons of Halo Reach and 4 online but none compared to 3 which is why I played it up until I could no longer find matches. I remember getting it for my like, Eleventh Birthday or so and being so happy, the countless hours I have spent engaged into the whole series as my escape, even if I was alone in it. Halo 3: ODST was my favorite to play offline. Halo 3 will always be the absolute peak of FPS Multiplayer gameplay, we yet to see any game innovate on the same level as it yet. 343i has dropped the ball with Infinite, maybe it'll be good later, but Halo 3 Launched great. It was tons fun looking through people's service records and seeing who did what and how committed to the series they were and what accomplishments they had. I was so happy to see so many people with incredible records come back, and to see people get an ego boost even if they 2v1ed me just because I have a ton of trophy armor lol, that just further validates me for my unlocks. It was tons of fun partying up with randoms and being led into custom games, as few times as that may have happened to me. I will never forget who I met because of this game series or this site, no matter how far apart we may grow. I am fully willing to play MCC with any of you, and Halo 3 this final night. You know where to find me.
This is Our Finest Moment, let's make it count.

I've been playing it for the past few days. So far, I've only run into one modder. Thought I'd find more of them. Also, I'm still getting messages from people mocking me for not having a 50! -blam!- hilarious. -
It's been a loooong while since I've been around these forums regularly. Thought I'd check in and see who was around for the end of 360 era halo. Hope yall are doing good things with your lives, you were a great community to be a part of. Anyone know if Sandtrap survived and beat his cancer?

I went back for old times sake. By sheer force of the inheritors, I ran into a very old friend via matchmaking. I recognized him, but I have since changed my gt. I sent him a coded message to see if he remembered, and the lad did, even my old handle. We talked and played for hours. First xbl connection I made, and the guy then was like 30yrs older than I. Awesome to see him still going. Sadly he picked... them... over xbox, so outside of 360 we lost connection. But still, was great to happen across a long lost ally.

I can't tonight, but maybe tomorrow night I can. I don't have my xbox 360 mic anymore, so we'll have to use discord if we want comms.
