Matchmaking for everything has been a hot polarising topic from day one. All the pros and cons have been laid out ad nauseum and nothing new has been said for years. But there is one word that solves all the problems OPTIONALITY. Each players viewpoint can be respected at no detriment to a player who wish to use the facility with a full understanding of the potential pitfalls..
Bungie are the slowest possible learners on this, every time they introduce any thing that requires six man teams the playing community consistently shows that six randoms can get it done most of the time. As this has not been introduced you can only speculate that there is some convoluted commercial gain to be had for Bungie been so anti.

I’m fine with MM for everything except raids and GMs. Those require at least some level of communication to finish. But nothing else is really that difficult that you need a premade team. Master NF, legendary astral alignment, legendary shattered realm, etc. are all easy to do with randoms and no communication. I haven’t even used a mic in a dungeon since early Shattered Throne. Any activity that has a triumph for completing it solo should also have matchmaking.
