That was never really an issue. And it certainly wouldn't be an issue now that new gear is added seasonally. And if they were to add more gear to the loot pools for activities, specific to those activities, then there wouldn't be any problems with running out of reasons to do the weeklies, etc. I just think they could get two items for the price if one by splitting the perk pools up, and giving each variant 3-5 to choose from in each column.

  • It might not have been an issue before but as they said when they back tracked on sunsetting they have to think of new ways to get similar results. Fewer weapons that make balance a pain and motivating grinding can both be achieved with a handful of weapons with deeper perk pools. Sure the drop rates can be slightly increased but this situation could be one of their solutions in the absence of sunsetting.

  • I think though that the problem with balance is just that, a problem with balance. Take the Bottom Dollar for example. If Sunsetting were still in game as it was introduced. Capping that weapon for a year from now doesn't really fix any issues that may arise from a certain perk combo being OP. But I agree, the problem with certain gear was the saturation of the market so to speak. I have always felt like D2 was way too easy in terms of getting everything that was in game. And I think that is where the lack of variety comes from. So I don't mind lower drop rates on specific items in general. So long as the items that do drop are generally "good". I have always wanted gear to be distributed based on rarity across all activities. Rather than being able to plunk down a bunch of engrams at a vendor until you get what you want. That is why the weekly offerings were so cool in D1. It made reset day something to look forward to. The Nightfall specific loot kind of does that for me now. I like knowing that I have a chance of something specific when I go in. While doing my weeklies. I say push more and more loot into this model. Leave the base set of seasonal gear in the seasonal activity. With the recaster, hammer, whatever the season happens to use. But make some "special" gear for pinnacle activities. And I think if they keep the hunt interesting and not too grindy. Players will naturally go after the "new" stuff, but not feel like they are wasting their time by farming, knowing they can hold onto the things they really like and pull them out whenever they want. Part of my original post was the idea that you could have variants of each item, with different potential combinations. Bottom Dollar X, Bottom Dollar Y, Bottom Dollar Z. Each with 3-4 perks in each slot. Give them a couple of acquisition methods. Do that for all of the higher end gear and you have basically endless farming possibilities, BUT players also know what they are going after, and that it is likely to be "good".
