Destiny 2 Competitive Playlist is Lacking in Incentive

Dear Bungie the Destiny 2 competitive playlist is lacking in an incentive to play in the current state of the game. There are few reasons to play the game mode except for the light level grind at the start of each season and the occasional new light guardian that wants to experience the high intensity game mode for the first time. The Old and Flawed Incentive. When Competitive was reworked and came out in forsaken there were rewards that guardians could grind for. These rewards included Luna's Howl, Not Forgotten, Recluse, Revoker and the infamous Mountaintop. These were great incentives for guardians to venture out of their comfort zones and brave the high intensity games that were found in the Competitive playlist. The reason this incentive was flawed was because of how incredibly well these weapons performed in day to day activities in destiny and how exclusive they were. With how incredibly these weapons performed it eventually led to the majority of them getting toned down to become trophies that we could look at in the vault. Which is not the greatest feeling for somebody that worked so hard for a specific reward. The Solution. Understanding that Destiny is a looter shooter and giving loot for completing or competing in all activities is essential, but seeing as the rewards from specifically the Competitive playlist became un useful and a memento of past accomplishments is a statement that something needs to change if the playlist is to stay populated. Destiny PvP players specifically have been asking for some kind of attention and incentive to play Destiny PvP again. With the gunplay being the best it ever has been in Destiny this urge for "content" is overwhelming. With a small amount of tuning towards stasis and rework of the Competitive playlist it could provide PvP players with a great incentive to play again. The Proposal. Looking at the competitive nature of PvP players in Destiny 2 there needs to be something that provides for their needs outside of the loot based game mode "Trials of Osiris". The proposal is a more advanced ranking system. Keep the rank names of the old comp and a similar point system. The more advanced version of this is to let people continue to push the points up past 5500, lower the rewarded points from each game, remove win streaks and give points for kills in games. Of course with each increase of rank losing games would cost you points. The losing team would lose more points the higher the rank they were. With each rank of the Competitive playlist if a player holds the rank by the end of the season they are rewarded an emblem and an aura that can be equipped over the head of the player (like the old nightfall emblems). For example if a player stayed in the Mythic rank till the end of the season they would receive a Mythic emblem and an aura over their head that came with running that emblem. This would provide a small but rewarding incentive to play the Competitive playlist again. For players that want to take it to the next level at the top of these ranks there would be a top 500-1000 rank based off the highest amount of points that a player had at the end of the season. This would give an emblem and an aura to those top 500-1000 players thus removing the advantage of the exclusivity and domination that came with Not Forgotten in Season 4. This would provide an incentive to play the Competitive playlist giving rewards that show off a guardians high skill without providing them an item that dominates normal activities. Visual of sorts. 1. Guardian (0 rank points) (Guardian I, Guardian II, Guardian III) players would receive the Guardian emblem and aura. 2. Brave (Brave I, Brave II, Brave III) players would receive the Brave emblem and aura. 3. Heroic (Heroic I, Heroic II, Heroic III) players would receive the Heroic emblem and aura. 4. Fabled (Fabled I, Fabled II, Fabled III) players would receive the Fabled emblem and aura. 5. Mythic (Mythic I, Mythic II, Mythic III) players would receive the Mythic emblem and aura. 6. Legend (5,450 to 5,500 rank points)[3] players would receive the Legend emblem and aura. 7. Top 500-1000 points earned by players past 5500 would receive a special emblem and aura.

  • Grinding comp was the only way to get light level appropriate gear in time for the raid. It was the [b][i]most[/i][/b] important single event for loot for a solid month and remains one for people trying to power boost.

    • Pvp at this point isn't even worth suffering through. Best thing to do is remove it completely or remove it FIX it for ALL players and bring it back another season.

      • The incentive (for players)is the friends you make along the way The incentive for Bungie is two-fold: push competitive players towards trials and not have to develop/balance/care about comp OR quick play

        • You get specific hard core loot with sevens wins/ zero losses in trials and zero such loot for reaching legend in comp now? Yup, makes sense.

            As we often read here in this forum, Competitive is the Newbie Mode because it is the only one with SBMM. Bad player should go there to learn PvP before hopping into the harsh world of Quickplay. You want incentives and rewards for the NewBie Mode? Funny!

              • Well ps4 vs ps5 why play at all. They have to separate the sandbox. Bungie sponsored by Sony is pushing ps5. I'll wait for ps5 pro, fast loading times not worth the money.with ps5.

                • I got a question. How many players have made a post like this over the years that this compnay acknowledge? I'm asking because not one single time have I ever notice this company ever notice any of you exist. No, the community managers saying "I'll pass this to the devs" does nothing either because the devs don't make the calls for this game and never have, so I don't know why the community managers throw nonsense out like that when the people that are on the board make the actual calls for this game. It's really neat that some players can actually come up with a lot of ideas that can improve the game making the game better than it is now, actually a hell of a lot better than it is now. Just none of this will ever be seen by this company and if by chance heard about this? Your ideas of improving the game don't coexist with what this company actually wants to do.

                • The pinnacle weapon quests are glaring examples of how PvP does NOT work in a loot based shooter. What's the point of having people work for weeks/months to get that gun, only to see it nerfed a few months later? What's the point? Or, you have situations where the guns are far and away better than everything else, giving a select few a huge advantage. PvP doesn't work in this game, and it never will.

With easy mode bullet magnetism and heavy aim assist. Gun play is average at best. Its an easy pick up gameplay shooting mechanics.,I can give it to a 6 year old and they can kill stuff. Dillusional thinking anything else. Go play other and see how better they are.

                        • Sorry but comp was a shit show much like trials is. They divided the community because those weapons were used in metas that made it impossible for new players to even attempt to play the pvp modes. I say good riddance of the pvp for the game has fallen. Bungie should have focused more on the pve aspect anyways because the story for the game is none existence at any point in time. Bungies constant focus on pvp is what ruined the game with a constant flux of nerfs and buffs making builds irrelevant and making certain weapons and abilities useless for pve gameplay. I say you want a competitive gameplay experience go play csgo,overwatch, or any other game. Bungie was wrong with there pvp idea and how they made destiny combined shared gameplay experience. It has resulted in to many issues and complaint over the years.

                            I’m a pvp player in the top 5% of kills in the crucible. I left today and downloaded Cold War. I’m not coming back until they balance the stasis BS and do something about the sliding felwinter scout shotgun crap. This was my favorite pvp game. Leave it to bungie to totally jack it up. PVP is a train wreck right now. They won’t be getting my 10 buck season pass money until things change. Not going to hold my breath.

                            • I’m not a huge fan of Destiny PVP but did enjoy comp to get Recluse and Mountaintop which both felt like amazing rewards - the latter in particular was a real grind. Without this desirable loot then it’s just a sweaty and frustrating mess.

                                  Destiny is lacking overall in general. Total lack of imagination. Pretty much the same hamster wheel going on 7 years. After all, creating content is hard and we are expected to throw money at the screen.
