Taken from the weekly update:
DUST AND ECHOES
Almost nine years ago, stats and files from our previous franchise, Halo, stopped getting updated on Bungie.net. Since then, all stats, files, and other data from Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach have lived on in remembrance at halo.bungie.net.
On February 9, the halo.bungie.net website will be taken offline permanently. Everyone is welcome to save their stats and files, however they can, if they'd like to save anything. Please keep in mind that our News articles, Forums, and Groups were imported into the current version of Bungie.net back in 2013.
This makes me kind of sad. I loved the look and layout of the old website. It was easy to look at and intuitive to navigate. There were lots of memories made during those days, some good, some bad, many questionable. But old bnet had an undeniable charm...sorry to see it go.
Edit: It just occured to me that I should probably share some of my own fondest memories of the old website:
Porch day. That was one of the funniest things I've seen.
*Shishka being a sadistic SOB to anybody who broke the rules.
Clockman.
*The now defunct bnet archive of hilarity.
Spartan Ken 15, who partially inspired my Destiny-era longface persona with his countless threads.
*Coup de Bungie.
*Users mourning the death of BerzerkerBarage. This may seem like an odd one, but it was the first glimpse I had into how close people on here could become IRL.
*Lord Snakie and the ridiculous hypotheses he came up with concerning Halo's lore.
*The "superintendent" posting in green text prior to Halo ODST's launch. It freaked people out.
*The countless parody threads that plagued The Flood.
*Blaming Stosh for everything.
EDIT: Would any of you be willing to have some custom games on Halo mcc for nostalgia? (PC edition.)

Modifié par Duardo : 1/15/2021 12:38:34 AMThis is now pinned to be an announcement for those who don’t read the TWaB. ALSO, I was just informed that personal Halo emblem avatars will be removed, too. We’re looking into possibly allowing users to upload custom avatars in the future, so anyone who wants to use their Halo emblem should go ahead and save it to their computer. Finally, for those who don’t save their emblems, lots of saved data is available on archive.org. On a personal note, I grew up on the old site. It’s where I made my first post, posted threads, made friends, and became a Ninja. I’m sad to see it go. It’ll always be home to me.
-
Maybe the real bungie.net was the friends we made along the way. Just kidding; it was the emblems. It was always the emblems.
-
That’s crazy, there were some good memories there lol

Modifié par BARACK OBAMA : 1/20/2021 8:40:16 AMEnd of an era. I arrived just short of the closing of b.old. but I was able to meet many wonderful people from the Halo community, even as people were driven away and the population from that time shrunk. The Friends List, Community Carnage, Art and Stuff, Bungieball, and many other Groups gave me my first taste of the online gaming community. Most of them were run by people from the old guard from the Halo era. Those communities have given me some amazing experiences and great memories. Most of those groups are abandoned now. Some of their members I'm still in contact with, albeit most of them outside Bungie now. Even I missed the experiences the Halo community had, I salute. o7

Hi Im Swat
Bungie fan, here since 2008. - 4/26/2024 4:59:50 PM
Well, this is it. Today is the final day to grab what we can from http://halo.bungie.net before it gets shutdown. -
Definitely sad to see it go, but the memories will live on. Too many good times to count, and so many lifelong friends that came from it <3 Here's to more in the future!
-
All good things must come to an end... I end up going back to look at stuff there a few times a year. If they remove the avatars, how do you save those? Picture size and resolution always get distorted whenever I've tried that in the past.
-
I dont have much to say other than I feel a part of myself has been slowly slipping away into the shadows. A community scattered to dust. I'll hold the memories fondly.
-
Good chunk of my adolescence was spent around here or with communities through Halo. Every now and then looking at old stats always filled me with nostalgia. Was lucky enough to be featured on Bungie’s Favorites way back when through one of their community spotlights. Quite a bitter feeling to see it go. As nerdy as this might sound, I think being introduced to forum culture and the sort of pursuit of creativity that the community emboldened has certainly impacted my life and helped convinced me to pursue my interests. While the site isn’t exactly usable as it is, it sort of feels like a monument to times past. Who knew years ago what we had been doing would have been memorable? We were all just wasting time, escaping from other monotony in life. The good times are appreciated Bungie.
-
We lucky few to have seen so much, we who have listened through rock, and metal, and time. While it appears that the monument to our sins is going away, we can remember those halcyon days with fondness. Remember Zanzibar dying? Blaming Stosh?* Mister Chief? The Bungie Webcams? Frankie and Luke Smith's rivalry leading to the steaktacular? Teh New Hawtness? Jerome the security guard holding a Brute Hammer? So many memorable members and Ninjas. I even signed in for once to post this, 14 years ago when I created my account I couldn't imagine what would become of it. Bungie has had its ups and downs, we all do, but I'll always remember the first time I played Halo and became a lifelong fan, even now with Destiny.
This is all clearly Stosh's fault
