I’m confused by your post, because I have the exact opposite experience, and we have very similar lifetime stats.
I started out much worse than I am now, but through practice and much more awareness of my surroundings I have improved significantly to the point where I find the current state of pvp very enjoyable.
There are a few reasons for this:
1) I made a concerted effort to improve my play. I watch videos from streamers like frostbolt and zkmushroom because they explain what they are thinking while they play, this has helped significantly.
2) Bungie removed sbmm in quick play. Improvements in my play are rewarded by better stats instead of better competition and longer matchmaking.
3) Bungie returned the ability to make plays by buffing and reintroducing snipers and shotguns. Sure, it sucks to get sniped or shotgunned, but we do it more than we receive it, so the net is positive.
Sounds like you just got a couple of bad matches and were frustrated. Yes, the game can be frustrating. Put it down and come back to it is good advice, for any pvp game. Nobody wins every match.

As Mi_BOLLIXX said, this isn't about getting better or skill, it's about the game not having any consistency in connection match to match. I don't care how good you are- if your connection is bad, you will have a bad experience, period. I can go off on one match, and can't hit the broad side of a barn the next one when my shots aren't registering properly and I'm getting shot behind a damn wall. Nothing pisses me off more than getting sniped in the head while my enemy is somehow 'running'.

Where do you live? It you say America, your opinion is invalid. Europe is a mess, almost unplayable

I did get a lot better since D1 playing PvP. But I must say the author has valid points. This games PvP is really inconsistent. This P2P hosting really doesn't help. Also playing with foreign players make it worse because the match making doesn't have a clue anymore on what to do. In one game all 6 players can have a totally different response time. 1 player you can easily 3 tap while another you empty 2 clips on his head and still didn't lose their shield. I think more than half of the players have a decent connection but those who don't really ruin the experience of a match. This is not their fault because their internet connection just might not be better wherever they live. I think this is a difficult issue to solve unless Bungie starts hosting themselves.
-
Indeed you might be confused because you're talking about gameplay, he's talking about the game's performance. Which in some regions, is very sub par. I'm in the same boat. Now if it's just our internet, then our other triple A games should be dogsht too but it isn't. If you have great connection and have no problems then good for you. We're glad that at least some people get to enjoy the game so the game continues and does not die down. It's unfortunate that that is not the case for us. But this much I know, if connections were not this mediocre, PVP population would be much healthier.

I’ve always had good connections but I’m in the USA. We simply don’t see connection related issues here very much. We did in D1, but this has improved. One thing you can do is test your latency to a nearby city to confirm that there is nothing slowing you down on your end.
-
It’s not about winning or losing. It’s about the game not functioning the same from match to match. I don’t care to lose. I care about making the correct play, to only have it cancelled out by doing no damage, or getting shot from behind cover.
-
Most of that is bullet magnetism. Your bullets actually track towards the enemy you aimed closest to, and yess this can result in you dying behind cover. Many players I know hate bullet magnetism, but bungie still defends it. Many game developers employ the mechanic in their games for PvP now a days. Helps reward casuals that miss

🤔 Yes, that would be frustrating, but something like this almost never happens to me. Is your latency less than 50ms? If not, that could be causing your problems. Destiny seems to be more impacted by connection quality than other games, but speaking from experience I know that connections can be fixed, and doing so does make a big difference.
-
Your latency to who? Do you test your ping to every player in your lobbies? Course you don't. You know playing on a TV adds 25ms ping. You know playing people in other countries can add 100s of ping? You know if you're internet is amazing, but the guy you're shooting had terrible internet, he'll kill you bcoz his net doesn't register all your damage. If you're in America, where 95% of the playerbase reside, I believe you 100%. If not, you just aren't seeing the issues because you don't know what you're looking for, or your reaction time is awful.
-
Yes, in America. I test my connection using a latency test to a city nearby to ensure there is nothing slowing things down on my end.
-
Test your ping to places like Russia, Egypt, then you'll see what a typical European lobby is like :)
-
I have done it. It sucks... but not sure how Bungie can fix ping time from the EU to Russia. I do get a lot of lobbies with players from Japan and Australia, and there is some lag there. The best thing they can do here is remove things like sbmm, which they have done in QP, but then people complain about that too. 🙂
-
It's tough, because they need region lock of done sort, like pc has, but in Europe numbers are super low compared to the us, so it might not work regarding wait times etc. Thanks for being honest btw, lots of people would have just called me a liar, told me to get bud, etc ;) So thanks
-
No problem bud. This game is very sensitive to lag. Seems more so than other games. Living in the same region and time zone as the developer does have its advantages. Imagine D2 without ever having lag, and if so just barely maybe once in 25 matches. That’s what we have. The good news for you is that with more players it is possible to have a consistent experience. Let’s hope that with Shadowkeep and D3 they can attract a larger player base which would help solve the problem.
-
Watch this, you're ping can be 0 and you'd still see issue
-
How can a peer 2 peer connection issue be solved? With dedicated servers ....
-
I’m interested how adding hardware between two computers reduces the communication latency between them. This may help, but the game probably needs more than just that to be made less sensitive to poor connections. At some point the connection is just bad and there is nothing Bungie can do about that.
