Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
First DLC for Atlantis came out and it reminded me why I loved going through the main game despite the First Blade DLC doing it’s very best to ruin everything for me and being the main reason I took months after it’s conclusion to finish it when I stopped playing for a while.
Glad I came back though. Love the new area. Exploring. Methodically going through forts. And I get all of that in spades. They seem to have remembered that some people want to play to play as an awesome mercenary and not a love-sick puppy... which they botched just so badly in the First Blade... just so badly.
Forcing a story love interest on you who says the words “connections like this are rare. We can’t let this go” while being the character you literally connect with least in the whole game is a fricken travesty. I literally said out loud, oh thank god when you died. That’s a character writing fail right there...
Lol true that 😂 It's definitely a better game when the focus is primarily on being a murderous mofo, that's for sure. Games about slaughtering people like a reaper really shouldn't attempt the love angle lol.

As long as they preserve who you are, I think it’s okay. It’s frustrating because they hit good angles on romantic interests prior to that. A lot. None of them involved you sacrificing who you were though. Minus the fact that almost all of them ended tragically, they were healthier relationships. I think they were trying to show that you grew... and if they were they completely missed the mark. It didn’t match the character at all. It was like watching a poorly conceived fan fic instead of embodying this bad a- I’ve been playing as for 60-100 hours. Clearly I’m still salty. It was a gut punch

Fair enough though, you don't play a game like that to deal with cheesy romance like that lol. If done right it's okay, but when it's so far from gow your character would actually act, it's just a boring trope.

If they hadn’t done such an excellent job with giving you unlimited agency up until that point it would have rolled off my back. But giving you agency and then taking it away is jarring.

Agreed lol, hit and miss in the start phase.. though I may have to pick it back up for DLC going by your recommendation.
